There's an open airy feel to the floorplan of this unit. The door opens up into a wide expanse of common space that is not so much divided up into rooms as it is simply multipurposed. Ash-grey resin flooring underfoot runs up against the paler grey of the exposed stone in the walls; between the stone support there are wide floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the river on one side of the home and the Commons' central yard on the other. Half of the space has a ceiling at one-floor height, though half of the space is left open with a balcony up on the second floor overlooking the living space below. A slatted stairway heads up to the second floor balcony; on the other side of the room, a fireman's pole running straight down to the basement provides a quicker way /down/. The wide open space here is combination living and dining room; in a recessed pit near the windows there are a pair of couches and large armchair around a wide coffeetable; further off a steel-and-glass dining table is surrounded by eight tall black chairs. A full bathroom behind the stairway is done up in dark granite; the glass-doored bathtub/shower is rather expansively large. The kitchen is tucked off in back, beneath the half-height ceiling; in here the appliances and cabinets and shelving recessed into the wall are in brushed steel, wide grey sweeps of tempered glass countertops running around the edge of the room and a large central island holding stoves and oven and deep double sink. Adjacent to the kitchen, beneath the ceiling as well, is a sitting area structured largely around the enormous television against one wall, a wealth of video games for a number of consoles held on the shelves around the television. Crates and beanbags and one low futon folded against the floor are arranged in good viewing distance; opposite the television, a sturdy large pen built out of wood shrines a couch amid a sea of brightly colorful playpen balls. A door in one wall opens up to the apartment next door; a door opposite leads down to the basement. It's dark in Geekhaus -- ish. Though the sun hasn't yet set outside, the shades have been pulled down, neatly casting the lower level into a near-enough nighttime. The light of the television flickers across the gathered faces in the room, casting uneven shadows over Dusk's fangs, his pale green skin, the silvery fuzz over it, the dark eyelets on his wings. He's sprawl-draped across a nest of beanbags, tub of adobo-seasoned popcorn in front of him and a bottle of Bawls in hand. His eyes gleam in the odd light, fixed on the faery-creatures battling on screen, earthen monsters rising up to charge human soldiers. Beside him, Jax is nestled into one enormous green wing. A little pale, a little overly-cuddly, he watches the movie kind of sleepily through half-lidded eyes. Partially focused on the screen, partially focused on burrowing in against silvery fuzz and Dusk's warm skin. He sips at a glass of water, nuzzles cheek against biceps. Tucks in closer, smiling at the decimation. Perched on Dusk's other side with one wing thrown casually over his back, Isra has a tablet balanced in her lap and a stylus in her left hand. Dressed in a simple white himation, she looks like spring incarnate, her body a vivid bluebell purple shot through with new-leaf green. Her horns and talons gleam a bright gold, and leafy shadows across the membranes of her wings gives the impression of gazing up at the sun through a new forest canopy. She has only written a few short notes, her stylus still for the moment as she watches the battle, luminous green eyes unblinking. A soft purring growl rumbles in Dusk's throat at Jax's nuzzling. He tips his head down, nipping lightly at the side of Jax's neck. The nip is followed by a small kiss, a small flick of tongue. He settles in against Isra's wing afterwards, picks up the bowl to offer it towards her before scooping a handful of popcorn for himself. He doesn't offer it to Jax, settling it down on his far side out of the photokinetic's reach. The low purring continues as the movie does. Jax shivers, draws in a quick breath. Soft, pleased. He presses closer to Dusk, sneaks his fingers up beneath Isra's wing, between Dusk's shoulderblades. He takes another large gulp of water, then sets the glass aside on a crate, just snuggling in. Close. Closer, as the movie progresses. His other hand drops to rest on Dusk's belly. Almost casually -- almost. Except it presses there firm, fingers kneading lightly at skin. The fingers at Dusk's shoulderblades are starting to knead, too. Isra plucks a few pieces of popcorn from the bowl--almost daintily, and without much eagerness. She eats them one at a time. Her ears press back against her skull and her eyes gleam even brighter as night falls on screen. The tip of her tail twitches uneasily. She coils her lanky frame tighter against Dusk's side and resettles her wing, one long phalanx brushing against Jax's shoulder. The tablet screen goes dark with neglect. Dusk polishes off his handful of popcorn and licks his fingertips clean. His wing rubs slowly against Jax's shoulder, his head tipping against Isra's. His pupils have dilated wide in their fix on the screen. The purring dies down. A few minutes later it isn't a purring or a growling but a sharp animal keen, harsh and sudden between Dusk's clenched teeth. His wing has pulled in tight against Jax, curling the other man in close and snug to his side; /he/ has pressed in tight against Isra, breathing ragged after the rough yowl torn out of him. He hits pause. His eyes finally close, face turned in against Isra's chest and his wings tense and quivering. Jax's eye scrunches up at the sudden clench of wing around him, though he relaxes into it with no trace of surprise. His fingers continue to knead at the muscle around the base of Dusk's wings, his other arm curling tighter to squeeze in a firm hug. He tips his face up to press a firm kiss to the other man's jawline. Lean back just as firm into the wing that is very much /there/ and pressed up against him. Isra's growl comes soft and low, resounding in her sizeable lungs, more felt than heard beneath Dusk's cry. She stares at the paused film for a moment, then tears her eyes away. Her other wing curls around both men, gathering them close--gently, though the long talons still dimple Dusk's skin, and probably Jax's, here and there. Her hand cups the back of Dusk's head, a light scraping of claws against scalp inevitable as she rubs slow circles with the pads of her fingers. The rumbling in her chest never fades away completely. Dusk breathes. And breathes, slower and slowly steadier as he draws in the scent of the pair around him. Relaxes into the touches pressed up against him. His scruffy-bearded cheek nuzzles back up against Jax's, his head tips back into Isra's taloned rubbing. Gradually /his/ growling, at least, fades away. He reaches for his Bawls again, takes a slow sip. Takes a few kernels of popcorn, chews them down. He settles in against Isra, nuzzles up against her neck. His wing rubs steady against Jax's back. His eyes close. And open again. Behind him he stretches his wings, rolls them slooow. Settles them back in against his companions, curling them in snugly. And reaches out to tap play. |
