"No-one ever expects Canada."

Location

<XS> Kitchen

The kitchen staff at Xavier's tends well to the needs of its residents. Always cognizant of its students and faculty's dietary needs alike, the menu has a wide variety of choices, and the longtime cook works wonders in the kitchen. The pantry, too, is kept well stocked for those who want to come prepare themselves their own snacks. The shelf, fridge, and freezer space is ample, though if anyone wants to keep their own food there, they'd better make sure it's labeled clearly, and even that is no guarantee it'll last.

Dinner has come and gone, its plethora of leftovers stashed away in the fridge for whoever plans on raiding it later. With the kitchen staff done with their duties for the day it's quieter in here -- not empty, though. Right now it smells of onions and spices, a small pot of beans just starting to simmer on the stove. A small and rather alien-looking blue teenager in jeans and a blue tee with a large black raven silhouetted on it is just sniffing at the pot, then leaving it to cook as he trucks a recently-used pan over to the sink to wash it.

Heading into the kitchen is Allison, dressed in a pair of workout sweats and a matching sweatshirt that hangs off her shoulder. Her hair is pulled up into a bun with a few whisps of blonde bangs hanging along her cheeks. Shuffling over to the fridge, she opens it up to find a bottle of water. Giving a glance over to the blue teen and the pot of beans, she says, "That smells pretty good. Family recipe?"

Sometimes a girl just has to dress to impress. And when you're in a new school those times are always. Which is why Cassy has pushed out all the stops on her outfit of the day with some sort of gothic lolita cosplay maid costume. Complete with frills, lace, pigtails and a tiny hat pinned to the top of her head. "Someone tell me there's a bag of sugar or something tucked away in here? Oh! Maybe some icecream," she babbles as she pops in from door a moment behind Allison. "Went for a healthy lunch and gosh it did not have enough calories." The red-head does seem to be moving her mouth as she talks. Indeed the sound seems to be coming from all of her, as if she was a walking speaker stack.

Marcus glances up from his scrubbing of the pan (it looks to have just a bit of burned-on char left on it; he's attacking it with a will), looking over Allison a moment -- brow creasing slightly -- before looking over at the pot. Shaking his head, after a moment of consideration of the beans. His square-pupiled eyes grow slightly wider when Cassy enters -- she gets a considerably longer look. The crease in his brows grows deeper as she talks. Eventually he shuts off the water, shakes the pan off to rid it of excess Wet before putting it aside on a drying rack. Trotting over to the freezer to pull it open, extracting two different containers -- one box full of cookies-and-cream ice cream bars, one large carton of peach sorbet, offering both out to Cassy with a questioning lift of brows.

The warm smile upon Allison's face flickers for a moment, before it falls away into a soft sigh. She twists the cap off her bottle and takes a small sip from the water. Looking over her shoulder to Cassy, she steps out of her way once Marcus introduces her to the ice cream. "I like your outfit. It's really cool. Sorta reminds me of .. um... that anime... Ruby? Is that right? She has a big gun like thingy."

Cassy ducks down to peer at the options (and figure out which has the most sugar per portion) before settling on two of the icecream bars. "You are a /lifesaver/. Possibly literally. I was getting really dizzy!" She takes a huge bite out of the icecream, hands barely visible under the huge floopy sleeves. All the while still talking away. "Oh thanks! It's based on a costume in a show called Re:Zero, I got it online from someone who hand makes them." She lets out a content sigh. "These are really good. I'm Cassy by the way, it's nice to meet you both."

There's a slight sag to Marcus's shoulders as Allison's smile disappears, but it doesn't last. He perks up brighter when Cassy makes her choice, nodding firmly and tucking the frozen treats back into the fridge.

Briefly.

After a moment consideration he plucks the ice cream bars back out to snag one for himself, /then/ put the box away and close the freezer. Carrying his ice cream bar still-wrapped back to the counter, he sets it down -- faaar away from his stove -- to stir at the beans, add a splash of maple syrup. "Marcus," he finally introduces himself. Cassy's explanation draws a longer look over the clothing -- a bit more impressed, this time.

Kyle walks into the kitchen upon hearing voices coming from there, so he decides to go see what's what. He's wearing a beanie on his head to keep his messy hair in check and only somewhat nice, a black longsleeve shirt with the O'reilly clan emblem (on the back and near the shoulder)on it (Scots. *eyeroll*), baggy pants and tenneshoes. "Oh 'ey." says in a strong scottish accent and a warm smile to all present. he waves lightly to the people he found, though not expecting this many in honesty.

"Hi Cassy. It's nice to meet you. I'm Allison." The young girl says to the pair of them as she gives her water bottle a slight tilt left and right in her hand. "I haven't heard of Re Zero. Maybe I will look into it one day." Her foot stubs against the ground for a moment. When Kyle enters the kitchen, she gives a dip of her head to him. "Hey Kyle."

"Although the hair and hat aren't part of the costume," Cassy admits with a shrug, mouth still full of icecream (ladylike snacking) and doing none of the talking. "Marcus, Allison it's a pleasure to meet you both. I think I've heard you around the dorm wing Allison, nice to put a face to a voice at last. Thankfully I can't quite hear all of the boys dorms, even if it does make it harder to know who's who.."

Marcus winces at the mention of hearing the others around the dorms. He stirs at his beans, lifting the spoon out of them to wave (with it) at Kyle. Then tuck the spoon back into the food. "Is it good?" There's a heavy and noticable francophone accent in his words, which come slow and careful. He points at Cassy again. "The show."

Smiling to all there, Kyle finds that Allison steals his attention when she speaks to greet him. "'ey Alli. How are ya?" he greets her with a warmness in his smile, and he waves to Marcus and Cassy as he moves over to Allison "'ello there. How are ya both? me name's Kyle." he smiles to them as he introduces himself and stands by Alli, she being the only person he really knew in the room.

"Nice to meet you also, Marcus." Allison says as she gives the blue skinned boy a welcoming smile, then gives Kyle a tap on the shoulder with a fist. "You've heard me about the halls? I should stop singing in the shower." She giggles softly, then heads for the door. "Well, back to studies for me. Have a good night everyone. Take care."

Cassy nods enthusiastically. "It won some awards," she assures Marcus. "But it really depends on the genre you like." She winces a little at Allison. "I'll probably still be able to hear, so don't mind on my behalf." Her attention shifts to Kyle. "So you're from... uhm... Europe? I want to say Wales. But it's not Wales is it? Oh! Maybe you're from Canada and it's just a practical joke?"

Marcus puts a lid on his beans, turning the heat down a little lower. Picking up his ice cream bar again, he starts to unwrap it, waggles it at Allison in a wave, unwraps it the rest of the way. Nibbling at the bar slowly, his eyes dart between Kyle and Cassy. "Not Canada," he offers with a small crinkle of his nose. But then, suddenly uncertain: "... Canada?"

Kyle chuckles lightly when Allison taps him lightly with her fist, but frowns when she says that she should stop singing "But you have such a wonderful voice." he compliments her singing, and nods to her as she departs "Talk later?" he requests of her "If you need any 'elp, I'll try to 'elp if the studies become difficult. Two minds are better than one I think." he smiles to her warmly, before looking then to Cassy with a small laugh and a bright smile "Aye, I'm from Europe. From Glasgow, Scotland, so your fairly close lass. Might I ask yer name?" he smiles to her, though he does look curious "Does Canadians 'ave accents?" things he doesnt know! He glances then to Marcus and nods to him positively "Not Canada lad. Though may I ask yer name? I love meetin' new people." he says cheerily, and looks at Marcus "oh..and 'um, where'd ya get tha ice cream?" he asks curiously, his features brightening a little.

"Sure, we can talk later." Allison says to Kyle as she gives a small wave to the others, then heads out with her bottle of water swinging lazily from her hip.

"No-one ever expects Canada," Cassy points out. "Some day they'll take over the world. Dun dun duh!" She doesn't so much say the last bit as play it as a dramatic orchestral sound effect. "Oh right I'm Cassy, thought you might have caught it when you came in. That's Marcus. We have literally only just met properly like a few minutes ago." Not that she's technically saying anything, mouth now full with her second icecream bar. "You... you can't hear the girls showers from your room too I hope can you Kyle?"

Marcus blinks for just a moment at Kyle, then points with his ice cream bar to the freezer. His other hand lifts to point with one (far too long) finger afterward, for emphasis. "I am from Canada." Offered in the same distinct accent.

Kyle smiles to Allison when she affirms they can speak later, and he waves to her happily as she takes off. a small sigh afterwards, though he does glance to Cassy and laughs when she speaks of Canada. "Ya're a fun one ain'tcha?" he laughs faintly "Nice ta meet ya Cassy." thoug hhe does tilt his head at the lady "Nope. I can't hear a thing. I 'ung out wit' Alli a few days ago yeah, and I got ta 'ear 'er sing." he smiles "She's really good, that one." he nods, though he may be oblivious to any hidden meanings in Cassy's words, and he glances to Marcus when he speaks "ah, thanks!" then Marcus says he's from Canada with his acecnt, and Kyle looks immediately guilty "ah! I'm sorry...I didn't know, I hope I didn't offend." he rubs the back of his head. He clearly felt awful for some reason.

There's a sound of fingers snapping without the associated hand gesture. "See I didn't guess," Cassy points out. "It's cool that there are people from all over the world here. Oh and like Kyle you should watch out saying the S apology. Some of the older students told me it's connected to the zombie virus and it's not safe to say." A shrug. "Can I ask what'cha making Marcus? It smells pretty good."

Marcus's brows crease, head tilting in some puzzlement at Kyle's apology. He just shrugs in answer, munching again on his ice cream bar. "She is a. Famous." Spoken careful and slow, looking down at the counter. "Almost a famous." Brighter: "This is beans. Bake beans. For on toast. You can have? Soon."

Kyle smiles faintly to Cassy. "It is. It's a brand new experience for me." he shrugs lightly, even though he's been in America for awhile. "S-word?" he then makes the click "ah...sorry...I forgot about that. bad stuff that." he rubs the back of his neck. Can't do anything right today! he shrugs, looking then to Marcus "She is..and it's really neat. Neva met someone like 'er before." he shrugs lightly "alot of cool people here."

"Normally I'd totally offer to help set you up on a date but.... I don't think I should matchmake now I can hear like practically /everything/," Cassy laments, throwing a floofy sleeved arm up in theatrical dismay. "But if you're gonna make a move sooner is better while you're all exotic." She skips over towards the cooking pan for a better look. "I guess I can try some beans. I need to stop trying to diet as much now I burn a lot more energy just by talking and beans should be healthy and filling. Right?"

Marcus nods at Kyle's last sentence, a vague sort of agreement. Cassy's words get a dubious frown, though. "Healthy..." His forehead scrunches further, and he eyes his pot uncertainly. One hand seesaws back and forth in the air. "But filling." He'll admit to /that/. He polishes off the last of his ice cream as he goes to stick a couple slices of bread in a toaster oven. "Maybe hearing everything make you... better. Matchmaker."

Kyle almost immediately turns pink when she suggests setting him up on a date. "I...uh....I took her out to bowlin' and the like as a date yeah?...nervous to ask her out again though..." he runs a hand through his hair "Hence why I wanna talk to 'er later." he sighs a little "....how much can ya hear?" he asks Cassy curiously, before looking then to Marcus and kinda nods a little bit...wondering if Cassy -has- been doing any matchmaking...because she can hear everything. Maybe Kyle should be more quiet from now on?

Cassy shakes her head vehemantly. "Nooooo, I mean it would but then everyone would hate me. Like, it's one thing if I hear something by accident but if I'm setting people up that'd make everyone think I was eavesdropping on purpose." She giggles and then, in response to Kyles question, seems to play a heart beating super fast. "That's what your heart sounds like right now. From my dorm room I... guess I can heart most of the girls dorm and a bit of the boys. Mostly just the main like corridor or when people shout. It's... hard to say exactly 'coz I'm trying super hard not to hear it all."

Marcus shoots Cassy an apologetic wince. "Is sleeping hard?" The audible heartbeat makes his eyes widen, then relax. "Some kids... very noisy."

Kyle turns a little more pink when he finds out she deciphers his heart beat "I...uh....I really like the lass okay?" he admits of Allison, slumping his shoulders defeatedly. "I...apologize if any of us keep ya ears busy when ya try not ta hear...." he lowers his head a little, rubbing the back of his head.

"The wind is honestly way worse than the boys dorm," Cassy assures, stopping the heart sound. "It's not loud in a way you could hear, but to me it's... a lot like the ocean. That same constant roaring." She hmmms. "It's tempting to claim I can figure out if someone is telling a lie or something from their heartbeat, but it's hard to pick out that level of detail over all the other squelchy biological sounds. Meal times are... an experience. It doesn't hurt or anything but it sounds.. gross."

Marcus's tongue pokes out of his mouth, exaggerated BLEH written on his face at the mention of mealtime sounds. "No fun." A firm shake of his head. Now he gets out two plates, scoops some of the beans onto the side of them before taking the lightly-browned toast out of the oven to set a pair of slices on each. He offers one plate to Cassy with a smile. His squarish eyes flick to Kyle, a very lopsided smile curling on his face as the other boy talks.

Kyle nods a few times sadly to Cassy, when she speaks of how her hearing works and what she can hear. "I'm sorry ya are experiencin' a 'ard time with it...I'll try to eat more quietly-like so I don't mess with ya...or try to..I dunno 'ow to actually 'elp there..." he looks a tad helpless, but he offers it anyway and that's all that matters! He glances to Marcus lopsidedly smiling at him, and he kinda rubs the back of his neck.

Cassy accepts the plate eagerly, the icecream having long since gone. "I don't think you can really control how loud you are," she points out, lifting the toast up and taking a bite. "But yeah I guess I'd rather have problems hearing too much than have problems with the sound generation bit of my power... Which is... uhm... a little more... and please don't freak out when I say this but... I can be dangerously loud. I'm really trying not to be though and I'm having lessons. So no freaking out okay?"

"Sound... death rays?" Marcus sounds /almost/ hopeful here. He's tipping the last of the pot out onto his plate, taking it to the sink to wash it. "They will teach you. Some control. Be safer." This is confident, anyway. Grabbing a spoon from a drawer and a soda from the fridge, he picks up his plate, carting it toward the door. "I will eat more quiet." By which he evidently means /far away/, because he's slipping out the door with his food.

Kyle nods sadly to Cassy "I guess...but I would still like ta somehow make it a tad easier for ya lass." he nods a little. "Ya can be loud? Noted. I promise I won' be freakin' out." he smiles to her. and when he sees Marcus leaving, he waves to him "Oh, later Marcus. It was real nice meetin' ya." he smiles, then looks to Cassy. I can uh...make spikes and claws come out o' me skin." he clenches his fists and bone claws come out of his knuckles, long and thick-looking, blood rolling from where the bones poppoed out a little bit, and spikes of varying size potrude from his arms and elbow. "Figured it was only fair to show ya my powers too, since ya told me yours." he smiles faintly, his spikes and claws returning back to their hiding place inside his skin. and he takes some tissue to wipe blood from him so he can be all clean. "aside from that...I uh, heal quick I guess." he shrugs "I apologize if I end up grossin' you out lass...it's not the prettiest thin' in the world..." he sighs a little bit.

"Not rays more like a sphere with me in the middle but anyway it was nice meeting you Marcus," Cassy clarifies with another sigh. "But anyway it's not like my power is a secret. I was using it to talk this entire time just now... You uh might wanna rinse that blood off? That doesn't seem super useful. You could just pick up a knife and not hurt yourself so much." She glances at the beans and forces herself to finish chewing another mouthful of toast & beans. "Not that my power is super useful. It's been cool chatting but I should be off too, I spent so long getting ready this morning I didn't do any of the assignments I have due. So I better at least start some of them now."
