{{Tab}}Unlike many other mutants, Fiona was born with her mutation. One might think that, given her red skin, yellow eyes, and tail, her parents, family, heck the whole town might have abandoned her. She was born in Small Town, Flyover Country, USA after all.So it was odd when the threats started coming in. Letters left in her locker, to her family. Leave town, or else. People were appalled. Nobody took responsibility. Who hated them? Why? Rumors swirled about strange faces seen around town, asking questions they probably should not have been.

{{Tab}}This didn't really happen though. In fact, Fiona lived a rather idyllic life in that small town. Her dad was a well respected doctor - not rich but well enough off. Her mother, a school teacher. Fiona herself was the second of two kids, with an older brother.
Fiona tends to ride her emotions like the crest of a wave - most of the time she is happy, but when another one takes control she seems to have very little self restraint. However, she's generally nice and gets along with people, so the intense bouts of anger are rather rare. Logical decisions are not really her forte; evidenced by her running away from home after some incidents in her home town.

{{Tab}}She spent most of her time reading, fishing, and generally just goofing off with other local kids and her brother - blissfully mostly unaware of what was going on in the nation at large. She was even in the school band! Yea, some kind of registration act? Didn't seem like a big deal.

{{Tab}}In a town like hers, everyone knew everyone and most people were careful to keep the mutant in their midst on the downlow. People in general, especially in the rural Midwest, were NOT so accepting. They knew this.

{{Tab}}Then suddenly, the evening after a big football game with another town, it happened. Upon arriving home, her house was strangely dark. She entered, and heard a metallic click and something cold against her head.

{{Tab}}That's a good freak. Don't you go moving now, trash, a gruff voice spoke.

{{Tab}}Fiona was filled with panic, shaking.

{{Tab}}A click and the lights went on, revealing two masked men with guns, one holding her father at gunpoint. Easy does it, girly. We're here to help. We're working on a cure- the thug began, before being interrupted by Fiona's dad.

{{Tab}}Bullshit! You lay one hand on my daughter and Ill kill you! Being a mutants not some disease! You can't 'cure it! Being held at gunpoint, he lunged for the thug closest to him. A shot rang out; blood seeped from a wound on his chest.

{{Tab}}Time seemed to stop for a minute, and it looked like the two gunmen had never considered actually shooting anybody. Jesus man, you weren't supposed to shoot him!

{{Tab}}You ASSHOLES! screamed Fiona, years streaming down her cheeks. Heat waves began to radiate off of the girl. Smoke seeped from her nose. A faint scent of sulfur came with it.

{{Tab}}Hey man, whats she doing? Shes not supposed to be able to- his whining was cut short by a gout of flame issuing forth from the girls mouth. Suddenly, everything was on fire - the walls, the intruders, all of the furniture. In a blur, the young mutant grabbed her father and bolted out the door.
Fiona grew up in a small college town in rural Missouri  (Flyover country, USA!). Despite being born with her mutation, and her mutation being quite obvious (red skin, yellow eyes, horns, and a tail), her life was rather idyllic in this small town. The mutant girl spent most of her time doing typical things a kid in a rural town might do - fishing, camping, playing music in the school band. A bit of a nerd, that one - she also enjoyed reading and various other pursuits like gaming, both tabletop & electronic.

{{Tab}}By the time Fiona had made sure her dad was as safe as possible, called the authorities, and attempted to go back into the house to check, the two intruders were gone. The family house went up in a blaze; thankfully her mom and brother were not inside, having been out at the time.
Family wise, she was the younger of two kids, born to a father who was a doctor and a mother who was a teacher. Her older brother (by a year or two) was rather (unnecessarily) protective of her, despite the fact that she was strong enough to hold her own against anybody in the school in a one on one fight. (Which thankfully never actually HAPPENED - that's what you get for being a bookworm with horns - LEFT ALONE!) Mostly, though not fond of mutants, the people in the town liked Fiona - she was one of the 'good ones' and anti-mutant talk was not heard, or at least, kept from her ears.

{{Tab}}The whole incident sent waves through her hometown and gave rise to suspicion; people who had once been friendly were now cold. She did it on purpose, they said - there never WERE any intruders, it was a domestic argument, they said. he anonymous harassment didnt stop, either. Dont think weve forgotten about you, and, We know what to do with your kind.
Kept from her ears and not heard doesn't mean it didn't exist though, and around the time she turned fifteen, the girl started getting anonymous threats - paper letters, texts, even voice messages from anonymous numbers. Though a cheerful and nice person, this did not do wonders for her self esteem, but... if whoever it was wasn't going to show their face, they couldn't be that threatening? Right? Right?

{{Tab}}It wasnt too much longer later when Fiona was walking into her favorite bookstore (howd they know?) and then suddenly - a blinding, searing pain. She was thrown upwards and back by the blast, the heat singing her clothes. Upon waking, the scene was chaos - she was somehow still alive, being wheeled on a stretcher as paramedics, firemen, and police scurried around frantically.
That's what Fiona thought, anyway, until one night when she came home after a high school football game (playing in the band, remember? not a sports person!). Upon arriving home, the house was pitch black - unlocking the door and cautiously opening it, she was met with the unmistakable cold metal of a gun to the side of her head and the distinctive noise of a hammer being drawn back. Two unknown attackers had broken into the house and had her dad held hostage while the rest of her family escaped.

{{Tab}}She passed out again, and awoke in a hospital bed several days later, family gathered round. Everyone was of course happy - but it would be a few more days before she was to go home. The doctors wanted to keep her for observation and tests to make sure no permanent damage had been done.
While it's hard to say what they were after, it seems like they had planned to kidnap the young mutant. This did not really go down how they intended, however, as after some untimely insults to his daughter her dad rushed one of the attackers, taking a bullet in the process, and Fiona discovered her fire breath for the first time. Both she and her father were able to survive the event, but the perpetrators got away in the confusion (though likely badly burned)... aaaand the family house burned down. Obviously not so great.

{{Tab}}At this point though, Fiona had had enough of the whole business it was clear someone meant to kill her, and that by staying well, it was only putting her family in danger. They'd be better off without her; yeah, obviously this was the only way. So she gathered up what belongings she had, and lit out for the open road.
However, that's what insurance is for and the family was soon recovering with a NEW house. Things were starting to get back to normal, though the anonymous threats and insults kept coming. Months passed, and even the threats died down, until one day when Fiona was walking into her favorite local bookstore, which also doubled as a bit of a gaming store where people would meet up. There was no warning when the blast came - it simply picked her up, threw her off her feet, and knocked her unconscious.

Someone had taken the liberty of firebombing that store, probably given up on kidnapping her once they found out about that dangerous firebreath. The store was a total loss, but thankfully nobody got killed. Fiona herself woke up in a hospital a few days later with a terrible headache and a resolution - someone, no matter how lucky they were, was going to get killed over all this... and it wasn't going to be her family. Gathering as much as she could from the hospital, and then after a quick trip home for some camping supplies, she lit out on the open road.

Enhanced toughness - Fiona is able to withstand brief periods of intense heat up to around 2000 degrees fahrenheit. Her skin is also quit resistant to minor scrapes or bruises. While a bullet will pierce through with ease, an attacker with a knife would have to really make some effort to break the surface. Her bones are also less likely to break - they are about five times tougher than a normal human's.

Not quite Smaug...
Introduction

Fiona tends to ride her emotions like the crest of a wave - most of the time she is happy, but when another one takes control she seems to have very little self restraint. However, she's generally nice and gets along with people, so the intense bouts of anger are rather rare. Logical decisions are not really her forte; evidenced by her running away from home after some incidents in her home town.

History

Fiona grew up in a small college town in rural Missouri (Flyover country, USA!). Despite being born with her mutation, and her mutation being quite obvious (red skin, yellow eyes, horns, and a tail), her life was rather idyllic in this small town. The mutant girl spent most of her time doing typical things a kid in a rural town might do - fishing, camping, playing music in the school band. A bit of a nerd, that one - she also enjoyed reading and various other pursuits like gaming, both tabletop & electronic.

Right? Right?

That's what Fiona thought, anyway, until one night when she came home after a high school football game (playing in the band, remember? not a sports person!). Upon arriving home, the house was pitch black - unlocking the door and cautiously opening it, she was met with the unmistakable cold metal of a gun to the side of her head and the distinctive noise of a hammer being drawn back. Two unknown attackers had broken into the house and had her dad held hostage while the rest of her family escaped.

Powers

Altered physiology - Fiona was born with obvious physical mutations, like red skin, horns, and a tail; this seems to be the source of her mutant powers.

Breath Weapon - Like the demon/dragon that she looks like, Fiona can spout flames up to thirty feet away. These are hot enough to severely burn unprotected flesh/clothing; if concentrated for a while she could probably make metal glow a little. The flames at their hottest are about the same temperature as burning gasoline, which is about 1900 degrees Fahrenheit.

Enhanced toughness - Fiona is able to withstand brief periods of intense heat up to around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Her skin is also quite resistant to minor scrapes or bruises. While a bullet will pierce through with ease, an attacker with a knife would have to really make some effort to break the surface. Her bones are also less likely to break - they are about five times tougher than a normal human's.

Enhanced strength - Fiona has minor enhanced strength. Translated into weights, this means she's able to dead-lift about 500 pounds.

Skills

Survivalist - Probably Fiona's only real noteworthy skill. As a kid she went on many camping trips with her dad, where she was taught basic skills such as orienteering (navigating by map and compass), starting a fire with flint and steel (now rather redundant), what kinds of wild foods are safe to eat, and what kind of equipment one should take if they expect to be gone a long time. While these don't apply directly to city living, they're still useful skills to to have.
