Introduction

xxxxxBack in the world. Pretty pleased with that situation.

Description
xxxxxA six-foot tall, well-built black man with dark brown skin, close-cropped black hair, and warm brown eyes. His face is moderately angular, though softened by the tidy mustache and goatee he usually wears, and has clearly seen a great deal of sun and wind. Though military discipline is evident in his posture and movement, his demeanor is casual and his smile comes readily.

History
xxxxxNew York born and New York bred, Sam is a Harlem native who's been gone a long time. Career military, his life after high school has taken him a lot of places, but he's recently home and returned to civilian life. Enjoying the freedom -- even if it's a little surreal figuring out what to do with it all.

Glory and Praise - Whether you're religious or not, Harlem's Gospel choirs are a famous New York attraction; the one at Sam's church is highly renowned and attracts a large weekly crowd of spectators who come for the music rather than the religion. He sings there weekly; the actual churchgoers tend to be predominantly black and predominantly warm and welcoming.
Pick-Up - Can be often found around parks engaging in casual ball-games -- basketball's his favorite but he's often up for a lot of things!
Fly, Fight, Win - Just recently home from serving abroad in the Air Force, now he works down at the VA helping other vets reintegrate into civilian life. Anyone with a military background might have reason to run into him there.
Guardian Angel - His military background was in pararescue; he's a trained paramedic and adept at rescue and might be Very Handy in those crises that New York seems oh-so prone to.
Birdbrained - He volunteers with a wildlife rescue just outside the city -- specifically, with their birds of prey rehabilitation.
Community-Minded - Actually, he volunteers a lot. Got a charity project or pet cause or group? Soup kitchen? Shelter? Clinic? There's a non-zero chance he might find his way into helping out some weekend.
