"-- I try fo stay patient but chee!" Nanami's teeth suck hard against her teeth, her head shaking incredulously. Somewhere far distant, well out of sight, probably classes are going on in the mansion; out here it's quiet. Occasionally birds chirp. The lake can be heard lapping at the short off through the trees. The small teenager is sitting on a tree stump well into the woods, dressed none-too-outdoorsy today, in a sheer black shrug over a pale pink blouse edged in black lace, plain black knee-length pleated skirt, pink tights, and slouchy knee high black boots with chunky heels. She has her knees tucked in towards each other, ankles turned outward and her fingers absently smoothing at the pleats of her skirt. "*Who* wen tell these haoles they got rights?"

"''Odda'' haoles?" Kelawini is sitting at a socially distant six feet from her sister, cross-legged on a plush bed of mosses. She's wearing a red button-down open over a deep blue babydoll shirt with the silhouette of a sea turtle haloed in ropes of sunlight refracted by water, skin-tight black jeans. A pair of black lace-up boots sit beside her, shucked in favor of bare feet despite the dubious warmth provided by the dappled sunlight. Her face twists into a grimace. "They wen make one whole country fo that." She rolls her shoulders slow, braces her hands on the moss and leans back. "They stay mo careful when they outnumbered but here?" She blows out a long breath. "Get too many them together."

"'K, plenny time I fo *real* like beef, but now I try fo do scosh better. *Scosh*." She emphasizes this by holding her index finger and thumb up, a small space between them. Quiet and shady, the trees rise all around here high and thick. In stillness, woodland creatures make appearances, though sudden noises scare them back into the cover. Dappled sunlight filters down between the thick foliage, and the ground underfoot is heavily overgrown, though here and there paths have been worn, by deer or years of students wandering familiar trails.

"Who wen tell these haoles they got rights?"

"Odda haoles?" Kelawini is sitting at a socially distant six feet from her sister, cross-legged on a plush bed of mosses.

Nanami's laugh is sudden and quiet, hand lifting to cover her mouth. "Lolo," she proclaims with a roll of her eyes, "I going come nice though. Day one we wen make trouble. We like find plenny more, we stay beefing with every haole dat come small kine irraz." Her cheeks puff out, her head tipping back to study the canopy above. "Did not think I'd be wishing for classes to start."

Kelawini snorts. "You come nice easy, you stay small n' cute. Pipo take one lookthey think I like beef." She doesn't sound particularly upset about this observation, though. "'K, plenny time I fo real like beef, but now I try fo do scosh better. Scosh." She emphasizes this by holding her index finger and thumb up, a small space between them. "You gon mebbe eat dem words soon, kedo...watashi mo." Uncrossing her legs, she digs her toes into the moss and follows Nanami's gaze up. "Ehhh, at least it gon come warm soon. I no can do class all summer, it stay cold lidis."

Nanami's brows hitch up. "You for real like beef," she's scoffing nearly along with Kelawini coming to this same conclusion. Her mouth twitches, reluctantly tugs up into a smile. Brief. "It stay cold, you be glad fo class. Sun come, you going do good kine stuffs out hea. You see dat lake? Boats and all! No fool yourself, you tink you wait fo pau hana to get on that water."

Kelawini laughs, bright and loud, tossing a drift of loose hair back over her shoulder. "Chee, I never buss up no haole kids here yet. They stay akamai, I mebbe not ever." She starts to stretch her legs out in front of her, but hesitates, eyeing the distance to Nanami, then pulls them back under herself. "See, dis fancy kine school, guaranz dey got some boat class, some swim class. Odda class?" She shrugs, unconcerned. "If can, can."

"If no can..." Nanami twists around on her tree stump, angling herself a little more away from Kelawini. Slowly, she's pushing herself up, rolling one ankle then the other in a small stretch. "That yet, do some real big work there."

"If no can--what, they send me for summer school?" Kelawini grins, rising in one smooth motion where her sister gathers herself slowly. "All my words dey work hard. I don't want no trouble demo, bumbye we see if trouble want me."
