This diner, though very new, has modeled itself in the throwback style of Salem Center's main drag. Black and white checkerboard floor underfoot, steel stools cheerfully upholstered in bright red vinyl, brushed chrome tables both standalone or in the booths that line the walls. This diner, though very new, has modeled itself in the throwback style of Salem Center's main drag. Black and white checkerboard floor underfoot, steel stools cheerfully upholstered in bright red vinyl, brushed chrome tables both standalone or in the booths that line the walls. The servers are impossibly perky, the jukebox only plays oldies, and the seats at the long counter also often include conversation with the very chatty soda jerk manning the fountain there. The smells of fried food and fresh coffee generally fill the air.

Its slightly chilly in the town of Salem, a bit of a breeze runs thru the streets. On the patio on the Diner sits Tomas in a black hoodie, chewing on the strings as he Signs to the women across from him. The women across from him is a middle age women, she wears a blazer and has long brown hair, as she signs back to him she smiles and nods. Tomas is enjoying a cup of coffee and a plate of buttered toast, he puts more butter on the toast as he takes bites, the women gives him a slightly puzzled look before shrugging it off as an adultescent craving and continues to eat her muffin. The women continues to sign: "you know human development class is important to a growing boy like you." Tomas blushes a bit before responding "Yea but its awkward" he signs back.

Taylor had been aimlessly walking around the Salem center. HE had begun to feel pretty trapped at the school so he needed a place to just breath and not have to try so hard. All he had to do here was to try and keep cool and go unnoticed. Simple enough. He was wearing his normal attire with ripped black skinny jeans, and a loose fitted bleached dyed hoodie that would cover his face well enough not for anyone to turn heads. He took his time to look through store windows and the displays outside careful not to go inside any of them because fluorescent light would be a dead giveaway he didn't belong inside. As he was passing through an outdoor display of women clothing the bickering between a man and a women. he watched behind a bright yellow sundress as the altercation became a bit more aggressive, as the man grabbed the woman's arm to escort her out of the plaza Taylor felt his heart race as his tongue quickly shot out of his mouth and wrapped around the mans arms pulling him quickly to the ground as his grip released on the woman and Taylor's tongue recoiled back. as the man laid stunned on the grounds slightly he made eye contact with Taylor's eyes and he scrambled up quickly anger boiling under the surface of his face. Taylor didn't wait to see what the man was about to do instead he just turned and ran knocking over the rack of sundresses behind him as he sprinted through the center his hood falling off and people stepping out of his way as he went.

As Taylor ran his eyes peered the center for a place to hide. Eventually his eyes landed on a familiar face in the crowd and quickly turned and jumped over the metal railing that separated the diner and the sidewalk smiling at Tomas in the seat with some bread on the table and a pretty middle aged woman across from him. "Hey roomie." he said sitting down quickly pulling up his hood again to hide his face and sitting on the side farthest away from the sidewalk. "Hide me please." he said still smiling.

Tomas jumped a bit in surprise, as he jumped the women's phone rang at full volume, the women ignored it and looked surprised at the young man that had joined them. She looked at Taylor then her eyes darted back at Tomas, still a look of concern not anger. After a few seconds of awkward stares she looked at Tomas and signed to him "Your roommate? Tomas responded with a nod and pulled out his phone and began typing, "NO NEED TO SIGN RIGINA, BUT YES THIS IS MY ROOMATE" He turned to Taylor and typed more with a look of concern on his face "AND WHY DO WE NEED TO HIDE YOU?"

Taylor nodded and watched the interaction between Tomas and his aunt before he focused on the question directed at him. "Usually you ask questions like that after the fact." Taylor said sinking down in his chair as he heard some commotion again coming from where he was running from. Taylor took off his hoodie and hid his arm and the side of his face that was different with the outer part of the hoodie. "I pissed off a straight guy and now i think he wants revenge or some shit." Taylor mumbled under his breath as he peered over the table and behind Tomas at the street a bit.

Tomas sighed a bit and gave a "I don't know" gesture to the women. She paused for a minute before standing up and standing between Taylor and the side walk, she looked at Tomas with a bit of a grin "give your friend your hoodie" Tomas nodded and un zipped his hoodie and placed it over Taylor and give him a thumbs up as he flipped the hood over his head as well, making sure he couldn't be seen. "Okay now you two just play it cool" she said before taking a sip of her coffee

Taylor hid in the dark under the two hoodies now oblivious to what was happening outside. "God your aunt seems cool." He said aloud as a loud yell cut him off. "Where is that damn ugly mutant?" a mans voice yelled. The man had accompanied a group of two other men by now, and a small group of local police who seemed uninterested in the first place.

"The hell... I think I'm pretty hot." Taylor mumbled... "Whos he calling ugly with his loose fitted cargo shorts and pale polo-" Taylor could've gone on but stopped figuring it wasn't worth his breath.

The women turned around coffee still in hand, she stood straight up, almost as if to display dominance. She looked at the man yelling and said in a very calm and poised voice "why is it that you are running around yelling, sir? that never accomplishes a thing. Plus its really making my Nephews uncomfortable" and took a sip of her coffee. Understanding the ruse Tomas put his head down and stealthily handed Taylor a note reading " she is cool, thx"

Taylor took the note and read it silently before shoving it in his pocket. "She'll be a lot cooler if she can get me out of this." Taylor mumbled. "There's a freakshow running around, that's what should be making the kid uncomfortable, not me, trying to keep him safe." the man stated looking at the woman and the small boy beside her.

Tomas gave Taylor a nod and a thumbs up. Tomas' Aunt stood up straight and extended her shoulders a bit "Mutant?, Freakshow? what it sounds like you are doing is a hate crime sir, under New York's mutant Anti discrimination laws, any hostile action intended to harm or demean someone for there mutant status is considered a criminal offence, these can include attacks both verbal and physical. You defiantly sound like you are verbally attaching someone, and defiantly you and your friends look like you have intentions to physically harm someone. And there of course are your basic and harassment charges, oh and might as well throw in Disturbing the peace too, oh your friend there doesn't look very sober, so there we have public intoxication as well " She turns her focus to the police officers "isn't that right officers?" she smiles and takes another sip of coffee

The leader of the group got red in the face as he felt suddenly defeated. "you're a traitor to your own kind!" he shot back before looking at the police for reassurance. the three officers looked more tired than actual agitated and gave a shrug before one of them spoke up. "Drop it Chad, she's got ya." the officer said crossing his arms. "We can't do anything, there's no evidence the mutant attacked you so there's no case." another officer added the group of three men looked between each other before dispersing. As the leader walked away he walked by the woman who challenged him and spit at her feet. "Sympathizer" He said as he walked on by and kept going. The officers seemed to disperse as well back to where they came from and the square returned to normal.

Tomas' aunt sat back down and rolled her eyes a bit, you two kids can come out now, the idiot bigrade left. "Macho men like that will get all up and arms at any opportunity to wave there dicks around" Tomas chuckled a bit before lifting his head and typing "THANK YOU REGINA" before taking a large bite of toast.

Taylor threw off the two hoodies that were on top of him and was momentarily blinded by the light. "yeah thanks." Taylor said setting Tomas's Jacket on his lap as he slid his own on and threw his hood up so he could hide the sid eof his face still. "Was all that stuff true about dissemination and stuff in New York?" he asked curious if that's actual fact or complete bullshit.

Tomas' Aunt shook her head "unfortunately it was not, most of that wouldn't of held up in court, but those idiots didn't know that." the grin faded a bit as she sighed "unfortunately Mutants are often the victims of violence from men such as that, I truly hope whoever they where chasing, that they don't catch them, for their sake, those men would hurt anyone they even thought was a mutant." she lets out a somber sigh.

Taylor looked over at Tomas to make sure he heard everything right, maybe she was just bad at picking up social cues. "Yeah... let's just hope the mutant got away before they can find him." Taylor sighed and leaned back in the chair. "I didn't interrupt lunch did I?" he asked looking between the two.

Tomas shrugged before typing on his phone. "NO I THINK IT WAS A WELCOME DISTRACTION FROM OUR CONVERSATION" Tomas' aunt chuckled, "Yea it was a little awkward, wasn't it tommy?" Tomas glared at his aunt " DONT CALL ME THAT" he typed The women rolled her eyes and turned to Taylor, "anyways I didn't get your name, I'm Regina by the way I'm Tommy's aunt" Tomas sunk a bit in his chair being embarrassed by being called Tommy.

Taylor smiled as he stole a piece of toast from Tomas' plate seeing him visibly uncomfortable. "I saw you briefly the other night on the computer I think." He said taking a bite out of the toast. "But I'm Taylor. I inhabit the small space that your nephew and I share."

Regina nodded "yea you said that earlier, at least I figured your wouldn't randomly call Tommy 'roomie' without being his roommate" she smiled a bit. Tomas sunk more into his chair and let out a groan as he sunk Regina noticed him take the piece of toast. "Do you want me to order you something, Taylor?" she said with a caring smile.

Taylor shook his head no, "No, I'm good. I have food right here." he said holding up the one slice of toast toward Regina. "Besides I'll just get a big dinner at school tonight. no worries."

Tomas grabbed the plate and set it in has lap, shaking his head at Taylor as he ate another piece of the heavily buttered toast. Regina looked at Tomas then back at Taylor " I don't think he wants to share, its no trouble really" she waved the waiter that was passing and asked them for a order of toast, the waiter nodded, and walked off. "see no trouble at all, i know the school feeds you kids well too, but you wouldn't be stealing toast from Tommy if you didn't want some, ay?" Tomas groaned again and tossed his hoodie over his head, continuing eating his toast, hiding a bit from the torment of his Aunt's 'name calling'.

Taylor nodded looking at how Tomas was reacting, to being called Tommy and wasn't sure if he was amused or felt bad for him though. "yeah guess you're right..." Taylor said grabbing the ends of his hoodie sleeves. He hated when people bought him stuff. Not a lot of people bought him things and he was never sure how to respond to things like that. "So you're from New York or..." Taylor asked looking at Regina trying to get distracted.

About then the waiter arrived and placed a plate of toast in front of Taylor. "oh, me and Tomas" she said rolling her eyes emphasizing calling him 'Tomas' "we are from Colorado, we moved to New York when Tomas got accepted into Xavier's school, I was overjoyed that he'd be attending such a fine institution, and plus a old college friend of mine works for a law firm out here so it worked out for both of us" She turned to Tomas and pulled his hoodie back "you alright down there buddy, ill stop embarrassing you i promise. Tomas let out an annoyed groan and sat back up setting his toast on the table to continue eating it. Regina turned back to Taylor "How about you where are you from?"

Taylor got momentarily distracted by the toast in front of him. He hadn’t eaten anything all day and he was starving, originally he was just going to wait till dinner at the school but this was much better. When the question was directed at him he was mid bite and swallowed before he answered. “Louisiana, like south south Louisiana.” He said since he didn’t really live near any city it was just easier to describe the direction.

Tomas perked up a bit hearing this and pulled out his phone "IS THERE AN AMISH COMUNITY IN LOUISIANNA?" Regina smiled "oh how exotic, you're Amish, What's that like?"

Taylor sighed looking over at Tomas a bit annoyed he brought up the lie that Taylor had posed the other day in their dorm. If you're already digging yourself into a hole though you might as well go until you hit China. "Boring, you know... Chores... God... More God..." he said trying to think of any knowledge he knew on the Amish and that alone was slim. "It's nothing to extreme ya know?"

Regina nodded and finished her coffee. "interesting, well the Ferris family isn't very religions, no offence, but if I might ask why would an Amish, attend a boarding school?, sorry to ask, I'm just so curious. "

Taylor quickly took a bite of his toast and chewed for awhile as he stalled on how to answer that question. "My parents sent me here for like mission work, I'm suppose to convert students, and see if I... uhh.. Ya know myself can resist sin or whatever." he nodded thinking that had to be the smartest things he ever said and took another bite of his food.

Regina nodded a bit "oh that's very interesting, well good luck" her phone then rings, she looks at it and signs something to Tomas before handing her credit card to him and walking off to answer it. Tomas looked at Taylor and pulled out his notebook, and wrote in it, he handed the note to Taylor "sorry if she is making things awkward"

Taylor shook his head quickly, "Oh my god no, She's not making this awkward. I'm the one that barged in on your meal and got free food." Taylor smiled as he finished his food finally. "I'm not going to complain about that though."

Tomas handed the credit card to the waiter as he passed and shrugged at Taylor and nodded. A few minutes later Regina returned signed the receipt the waiter brought and took her card. She turned back to the two boys "well kids I have to head back into the city, you two need a ride back to the school?" Tomas shook his head in response and signed to her "no thank you" Regina nodded and grabbed her bag and signed "I love you" to Tomas "nice meeting you Taylor" she said walking off

Taylor leaned back in the chair so it was balancing on the back two legs as he watched Regina walk off. "okay, nice. So what's the plan for the rest of the day?" he asked putting his hands behind his head as he balanced himself.

Tomas shrugged and typed on his phone: " I GUESS WE COULD HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL? SINCE YOU DO NOT WANT TO RUN INTO THAT GUY AGAIN"

Taylor nodded. He tried forgetting about the abusive man and his posy until Tomas brought it up again. “Yeah let’s just head back.” He agreed getting up from his chair.

Tomas nodded and gathered his things. And walked back to the school with his friend.
