Amara

Introduction xxxxx Amara is...well, Amara. She can be intelligent, and then act dumb, serious and then sarcastic in quick turns. The only time this is not her M.O. is when she's on an active scene. Then she's focused, sometimes overly so, and tends to get bossy. She'd just call it assertively taking charge. History xxxxxAmara was born into the life of an Army brat. Her mother, Sarah, a translator, had been stationed overseas. She'd fallen in love with one of the locals, and somewhere along the way, ended up pregnant. Sent back home to the States, she'd had Amara.  A couple of years later, her father finally was able to become a US citizen, and along came her brother Adrian. She grew up in several areas, as her mother stayed in the military and was transferred. It was at Fort Benning, in Georgia, that Amara's powers manifested. She was at a festival just before she turned seventeen, when a brawl broke out among some intoxicated men. She was knocked to the ground when someone was shoved into her, and saw her brother Adrian caught in the fray, as well. Even as she tried to get up, she noticed things were different. When a fist struck flesh, she could /see/ the pain, the damage being done. She hurried to grab her brother and get out, sure it would stop... but it didn't. It took a lot of time, practice, reading and patience, but Amara eventually figured out how to handle her... powers. Her brother helped, always willing to listen or be the guinea pig, and be sworn to never tell anyone. After High School, Amara decided her best bet was a 2 year course offered at one of her local community colleges. With her paramedic certification, Amara decided to head to the Big Apple. Her father had friends there, and business contacts that helped her find her feet, and she could use a references to land herself a respectable job as a Paramedic attached to the FDNY. Since then, Amara has focused on work and fun, striving to keep a controlled balance. Powers xxxxxBio-energy manipulation/biokinetic-  Amara can sense things about the bodies in the people around her. Blood pressure levels, recent/current injuries, if blood flow is slow, sluggish, or blocked. She can read information on a person's general health, pinched nerves, broken bones, etc. Should someone she's near be injured, she can not make them heal instantly, only help to jumpstart and quicken the process. She can concentrate to stem the blood flow and divert it to areas away from the wound and slow blood loss, and make the wound clot much more quickly. Amara has had difficulty explaining how she knows, what she sees, though she's only ever completely outed herself to her brother as a mutant. At first, it was in strange flashes, aching wounds and injuries that would 'light up' on a person's body in her vision, almost like a cutaway view. Then the power seemed to expand, letting her see from the point of the injury, mind following something like a pulse of light through the circulatory system. The faster the heartbeat, the quicker the flashes, telling her someone's pulse rate as well in a roundabout fashion. Of course, though she's never used her mutation in that fashion, she could use her powers to make someone bleed out faster, using her powers in the reverse fashion. After the obvious parts of her mutation, Amara has recently come to realize she can somewhat manipulate a person's 'chi' or life force, helping it be more unleashed to help those that are ailing. She has not come anywhere close to truly understanding this ability, only knowing she can lend her own energy to a degree as well as helping someone release theirs more freely to help them, but not daring any other sort of 'transfer' of people's energies. Skills xxxxxGerman - Amara's father was formerly a citizen of Germany, before coming to America after she was born. She grew up with German spoken at home, and it is nearly as native to her as English. %r%rFrench, Spanish, Dutch, and Italian - Her mother is a translator skilled in quite a few languages, and Amara has decided to use her mother's old texts to learn at least enough to say "I'm here to help." and "where does it hurt?" In as many languages as she can. She is a bit more fluent in French and Spanish (able to order food, drink, and ask directions), and only knows a few key phrases for her work in the others. %r%rMotorcycle engines - Amara's father is a bit of a motorcycle fan, it's something she picked up.
