Introduction

xxxxxIf not walking fast or talking fast, Savannah is constantly fidgeting in some shape or form and radiates an impatient energy. Vain and fastidious with outward appearances, she is a believer in the cult of first impressions.

History
|
xxxxxPart Chinese, part German, Savannah was born out of wedlock and raised by a single mother, Tina Reid-Savage, who worked as a maid and cook for Ernest and Abigail Carter, a wealthy family with deep roots and legacy in the area. Her father, Carl Leong, and mother divorced when Savannah was a baby. Though her father did pay child support promptly, he was never in the picture with the exception of a phone call every birthday and a trip to visit him in Virginia each Thanksgiving.
Growing up, Savannah always felt like a distinct 'other.' This was a great source of conflict growing up as she was constantly torn between wanting to be proud of who she was, while wanting desperately to fit in, which in turn led to a bit of a temper. Though being the maid's daughter didn't put her in the best social standing, Savannah was exposed to the world of the high society South through the Carter's youngest daughter, Evelyn, who was just a year older than her and would bring her to social events and get-togethers within their peer group that Savannah would have been excluded from otherwise. Evelyn's friendship and acceptance helped soften Savannah's otherwise hard edges of resentment and anger.
As the girls grew older, the Carter family grew more vocal and involved in the anti-mutant movement in Georgia and were particularly outspoken advocates of containment and isolation in addition to mutant registration. Local rallies were held and the girls were often conscripted to help in these events. When
Savannah's mutation began to first manifest, she was with Evelyn, who promised not to say anything to her parents. An altercation between Savannah and another student at school ended with the other party in the hospital with second degree burns on his arms. The "accident" only confirmed Ernest and
Abigail Carter's suspicions, and in an effort to defend her best friend, Evelyn inadvertently let the cat out of the bag. Aware of the potential consequences and the threat that the Carters posed, Tina immediately sent Savannah off to live with her father, but to the rest of the world, she claimed that Savannah ran away and denounced her publicly. The betrayal from two people she held so dear taught her a harsh lesson about the wavering nature of loyalty.
The transition to living with her father was a rough one. Carl turned out to be a swindler who made most of his money through insurance fraud, but at least he was accepting of her quirks, temper, and mutation. In order to compensate for not being around in the early years, he tried his hardest to forget a real father-daughter bond later on. At 18, Savannah struck out on her own. Lured by the big city, she made a beeline for the Big Apple, where she has resided for the last few years. Currently, she attends a local community college where she's studying engineering, with a particular emphasis on thermodynamics.

Powers
|
xxxxxSavannah can speed up or slow down the kinetic energy of particles to cause either heat or cold, though she is much more adept at the former. Slowing down particles takes much more concentration, is more taxing on her physically, and takes twice as long for her to do in comparison to speeding up particles. This mutation is tactile and whatever item, surface, etc. she may be manipulating needs to be in direct contact with at least a part of her skin.
Her abilities make her a complete klutz with electronics and also are the root of a secondary effect: her inability to sleep. This isn't to say that she does not get tired; she just cannot physically sleep. However, swimming or running is the best way to recharge her energy on a daily basis. If physically exhausted and unable to swim, then simply being submerged in the water helps as well. Pending that solution, the only other way to recharge or recover is through time, though it is an awful wakeful agony on the few occasions she has been so physically exhausted so as not to be able to move.

Skills
|
xxxxxA competent runner and particularly adroit swimmer. Though nowhere near an Olympic level of fitness, she has more physical endurance than the regular person and has a higher baseline athleticism.
She is particularly well read on history, with a penchant for ancient Chinese, French, and German history.
The combination of years of teaching from her mother and her ability to literally heat things up has led Savannah to be quite a formidable cook, and she often jokes that should engineering not work out (as it actually might given her penchant for overheating electronics), then she may as well throw in the towel and become a chef.
