xxxxxBorn to a poor family Hailey has had an interesting and sad life. She was born in Upstate New York to a moderate household. Her mother was a first run designer out of college and her father was a dead beat druggie computer user with nothing really going for him. Due to a wide range of semi social relatives and a series of lost jobs and transfers Hailey bounced from state to state, school to school, never really fitting in, never truly settling. This just got worse when she actually did settle down, ending up in upstate in the moderate city of Kingston in her teens, reclusive and self pitying the street and the few rebels she knew, her only friends. Hailey was confused and hated the world but soon that all changed.
xxxxx During her formative pubescence years something strange happened. She found her skin becoming lighter, the sun began to hurt her eyes and skin but she didn't actually seem to from a burn. She began to hide away, afraid of the changes. Her eyes changing to a pale lavender, her hair becoming black instead of her natural blond. Then it got worse, she started to sleepwalk. She would find herself in odd places when she woke up, down town, in the yard, down the street, sometimes taking hours to find her way back home. This was just strange to her, and she became afraid. It made her develop a stronger personality, fighting her fear, showing that she could handle things she fell in with a bad crowd. It started off simple enough, breaking curfew, going where she wasn't allowed, then it moved to piercings, developing into broad hate and complete disregard for adults and the world around her. Her dress changed, her demeanor and personality all became dark and dismal, allowing no-one to help her. This was all topped when it happened. One day she found herself walking home alone at night, long after curfew had set in and she was approached by a few rough looking guys. They began to try and attack her, bearing down. Afraid for her life Hailey didn't know what she could do. The shadows around her began to shift and move about, rising from their inky blackness before whipping forward, striking all of them. Afraid of the freak the three backed down, glaring at the weird kid and ran off. Hailey then realized she wasn't normal in a new way...and she had to figure this out before it got out of hand.
xxxxx She began to train her new powers in secret. She would sit in her room at night and make the shadows dance. It hurt at first and took alot of strain, the power giving her headaches and nose bleeds from over exertion. She would sneak out to alleys and empty warehouses, using the shadows to knock things over, break bottles, throw rocks. She learned by distress at first, cutting herself to force the power, using the rush to bring the manipulation to the surface. It was a long time before she got her power under control, along the way learning how to finely move and manipulate the shadows, using them to toy with her surroundings with just movements of her hands, not needing to cut herself anymore. Along the way she stumbled upon her other power, the late night sleepwalking interrupted one night finding out that she could walk through shadows. It took a while to learn, often walking into walls, ending up in odd places, not truly being able to use it to her advantage for months of training.
xxxxxJust when Hailey was getting settled her family moved once more, her mother finally got a good design job. The only problem is they had to move to the city. So they packed up and headed into the big city, where the rebellious teen had to learn to fit in once more. Fitting in was easy enough, she was an outcast, so she just had to find those others who didn't fit in or just go for herself. After the mutant attack on New York, Hailey's attitude of being a freak and having to keep herself hidden changed a little. She still kept hidden but the show of the mutant superiority and the fear others had made her freakish nature...seem more palatable for her living. She started to use her powers to get her own way, picking locks, hiding out, getting out of jams, running away from chasers. She had power and she knew it. She still didn't want to show off blatantly like some or get into a costume to run around like a fool but she like the idea that she had ways of making things work for her. The new chapter in her life starts now and it's developing path will determine just where she stands in life after this moment...

xxxxxUmbrakinetics- Though she's not formally trained or holding any sort of method to the madness Hailey currently has the power to control the shadows around her with hard concentration. She can form them into solid objects to use or manipulate. This is all dependent on the amount of light on her or the shadows.
xxxxxTeleportation- With concentration and focus Hailey can use shadows as a mode of transportation. By stepping into the shadow with focus on her destination she can pass through one shadow and come out from another up to five miles away. This happens the same way as Kurt Vogner aka Nightcrawler. as in she temporarily passes through another dimension, subconsciously using her power to fold space time to shorten the distance between the two points. She doesn't realize this due to the almost instantaneous nature of her transportation
xxxxxPhoto-sensitivity- An unfortunate side effect of her X-gene is photo-sensitivity, that is the weakness to light. During a normal day while not doing much Hailey can get away with just wearing a light hoodie to cover herself. If not, ending with a slight unseen burn and a feeling of lethargy and exhaustion. When using her power this increases depending on her focus leading to high degree burns in instances of high powered light on her skin during long periods of manipulation. Her shadows fall to this same weakness, becoming harder to maintain or control the more light is focused on it.
