xxxxxBig and burly, Wyatt might be his given name, but the Alaskan-born mutant more frequently goes by Teddy. Mostly good-natured, with a penchant for sleeping a lot during the winter months, Teddy looks just a little more wild than the next guy. He rocks a pretty killer beard. Get on his good side, and you'll have a buddy with a protective streak for life. Get on his bad side, and you'll be facing down one angry bear.

xxxxxBorn and raised in Alaska, Teddy grew up with a fairly normal childhood for the area, going to school like any American kid, but also learning how to hunt, trap, fish, camp, chop wood, and deal with a metric shitton of snow. He started off as a big kid, but he grew a hell of a lot when puberty hit, and also got pretty hairy and started sporting some over-sized canine teeth. During a hunting trip, a moose charged his father, and Teddy transformed into a bear to save him. Fortunately, his family and their close-knit circle of friends handled it decently, and he spent his teenaged years learning to control his shapeshifting powers while attending high school and playing fullback for the football team.
xxxxxA football scholarship took him to Boston College to study history, but where Teddy maybe could have turned to pro ball after, he hung up the pads due to the training being a little too difficult when in pseudo-hibernation during the late fall and winter. Instead, he got a teaching credential, and after a couple of years of being a summer school and substitute teacher, he's been recently hired on at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and placed on the roster of the X-Men. But shh, don't mention that last bit to anybody not in the know.

xxxxxTeddy possesses the ability to transform into a large brown bear (8’0” in length, 4’5” high at the shoulders, and ranging from 1,000 to 1,400 pounds). All of the abilities of a bear come with the transformation: superior strength, hearing, sense of smell, and endurance. Not to mention the claws and teeth. He can also assume partially transformed states between man and bear, though he can only do so with his entire body and cannot transform singular body parts. His size, strength, endurance, hearing, and sense of smell all work on a sliding scale: the more bear, the more potent.
xxxxxWhen in his natural human state, Teddy is still much hairier than the average Joe, his upper and lower canine teeth are larger, and he also has a large, stocky build that is incredibly well-muscled, even when under a layer of fat. His sense of smell, hearing, strength, and endurance are all above average compared to the next person, though not comparable to when he's in bear form.
xxxxxTeddy is also under the influence of the seasons like most bears. From around May to late September, he becomes very active and is almost constantly hungry, packing away ridiculous amounts of calories and putting on pounds non-stop. From October till April, though, Teddy slows way down and enters a kind of pseudo-hibernation period. He will sleep 16 hours a day by February, barely touches food, and is overall much more sluggish. He can also be more irritable and generally uninterested in most things. Because of this, his weight will change dramatically throughout the year.

xxxxxMr. Welker’s teaching style might be just a smidge unorthodox, especially for history classes. He believes that memorizing dates and names are a waste of time; what’s way more important is why something happened when it did, and once you get that, all the little details will fall into place. He frequently uses powerpoint presentations with a lot of (sometimes utterly ridiculous) pictures (like a machine gun-wielding Abraham Lincoln riding a bear) to enhance lessons. Mr. Welker also usually brings a Nerf gun to classes, so he can shoot disruptive students with darts. And if you actually fall asleep in his class, expect to be the butt of some type of joke of the shaving-cream-in-the-hand-and-nose-tickled variety.
