Tomas attempts to repair his phone and meets a new friend

Location

<XAV> Rec Room - Xs Second Floor

School this may be, but life for Xavier's students certainly isn't all studying. Outside classes, this is a popular spot to find students in their downtime. An enormous tribute to slacking off, this room is a wealth of fun and relaxation.

Comfortable armchairs, couches, and beanbags offer plentiful seating scattered throughout the room, and the cushioned windowseats by the high windows offer a cozy nook to curl up and look out on the grounds.

The room is often filled with the noises of gaming -- whether it comes from the big-screen television (tall racks of DVDs beside it, if nothing can be found on the multitude of cable channels), tricked out with consoles from retro to the latest releases, or the less electronic clatter and thump of the pool table, air hockey, or foosball. For those a little more subdued in their gaming, the cabinets hold stacks and stacks of board and card games, ranging as classic as chess and go to as esoteric as Dixit, Catan, and Gloom.

More days than not, there's some variety of snacks to be found on a table beside the gaming cabinet -- quite often in the form of fresh-baked desserts.

Tomas sits in the corner on a bean bag in a lose fitting Ramones shirt and cargo pants, with a single earbud in. He has moved one of the side tables to the corner so he could work on top it. On top the table lays a pulled apart phone, the mother board hooked to a voltmeter. a usb cable from the phone runs to the laptop, setup to the side. He frustratingly types away at the laptop, as he is frustrated the light above him faintly flickers. He is periodically looking back at the phone, whos screen is still on, it is displaying some system diagnostic information. After a few minutes he rubs his temple in frustration, causing the light above him to become slightly brighter before it returns to normal, no longer flickering. He looks up at the light and lets out an audible sigh. He leans back a bit on the bean bag and grabs the cupcake that sits next to him, he eats the cupcake as he looks around the room, trying to think a bit, or maybe he was just looking for a distraction.

The door opens and Harm slips unobtrusively inside, dressed in a blue tank top with a vivid white cyanotype of ginkgo leaves across the chest and brown linen wrap pants, a satchel made from recycled bike inner tubes slung over one shoulder. They make a beeline for the dessert table and claims a cupcake of their own. It looks for a moment like they might just turn around and walk back out, but in turning they spot the electronics spread out on the table beside Tomas and wander that way instead. "Woah, what's all this?"

Tomas looks up a the other student, and gives them a small grin, before putting up one finger to indicate "wait a second", He starts digging thru his satchel bag which is next to him on the bean bag, before pulling out a tablet. He turns the tablet on and taps his fingers on its side as it starts, he gives a slightly puzzled look as its starts up before shrugging and plugging it into its charger then the wall. He turns to Harm with the tablet in his hand and begins typing on it, the device dictating as he does, "IT IS MY PHONE I BROKE IT. AT LEAST I THINK I DID. IT IS ODD I AM TRYING TO FIX IT"

Harm tilts their head at the gesture, frowning. When the tablet starts speaking for them they actually take half a step back away from the other student. "Oh! Sorry, I just, didn't expect it to start talking." They lick their lips, looking over the components laid out on the table. "Why are you...um..." They blush fiercely and shake their head. "Sorry. It's really impressive you can do all that. I mean, fix your phone. Or, try to fix your phone."

Tomas raises an eyebrow at Harm taking a step back before letting out an audible yet soft chuckle. He types on the tablet "IT WILL NOT BITE YOU, OR WILL IT??" he makes a little finger wiggle as if to indicate its spooky before chuckling a bit. He turns his expression a bit more serious but still smiling as he turns back to the table a bit. He sets the Tablet beside him typing on it more, it dictates " THANK YOU IT IS SORT OF A HOBBY OF MINE ALWAYS HAS BEEN, I AM TRYING TO FIX IT BUT NO LUCK ITS LIKE IM A BIG MAGNET LATELY, AT AT AT at.... " the tablet emits static sighs and sets it down and rolling his eyes.

Harm blinks, smiling uncertainly at the joke. But at the gesture they chuckle. "You know, around here, it wouldn't be the wildest thing I've heard." Despite that, they take a step closer and peer down at the phone laid out on the table. "If you usually have better luck...honestly, it might not be you." The glance around the room furtively. "There are kids at the school who have like, tech powers, you know? Not that I think they'd mess with your stuff intentionally, but we don't all know how to control our stuff, right?"

Tomas smiles and sets the tablet to the side, clearly its of no use. He pulls out a note pad and writes on it "no its me, trust me, I'll show you" he turns the notepad to Harm so he can read it. He then pulls out a small flash light, one like you might get as a party favor. He turns the flashlight on and holds it in his hand he then stares very intently at the flashlight, the flash light begins to flicker a bit before it shines extremely bright then sparks a bit and stops working.

Harm mouths "oh" without really voicing it, and watches curiously. At the demonstration they shuffle back yet again. "Woah," they say, again. "Have you met the girls who break stuff? I mean -- electronic stuff." They gesture at the phone, tablet, laptop -- all of it. "They haven't broken anything lately," they're adding hastily, blush returning, "I just thought maybe you'd...have some things in common."

Tomas shakes his head "no" then writes more in the notepad and turns shows it to Harm " no, but if we are able to break electronics then yes we would have a lot in common, it would be nice to meet them" he grins a bit

"It's a small school, I'm sure you'll run into them sooner or later." Harm shrugs. "Even if you don't continue breaking stuff." Their lips press together thinly. "Though...probably you should try not to break too many things. It kind of sucks when people are in the middle of homework and --" They blow a raspberry. "Anyway, um, my name's Harm. What's yours?"

He nods agreeing with them, he then chuckles when they blow a raspberry. "Tomas" they write on the notepad, turning it to them with a little grin still chuckling a bit.

Harm frowns at the name, but then nods. "Anyway, welcome to freak high. Um..." They nod at the components on the table. "Good luck fixing your phone, anyway. I'll probably see you around soon, yeah?" They smile brightly and salute their schoolmate with the cupcake, then departs with a wave.

Tomas waves and goes back to trying to fix his phone.
