Jax, Micah

In Absentia

7 June 2014

Fixing up the new place. (Warning: A little cuddly/suggestive by the end.)

Location

<NYC> Candyland - Harbor Commons - Lower East Side

It's bright and warm outside; most all the windows in the house have been thrown open, a pleasant breeze drifting through the bare-empty rooms. Spencer has scampered off next door to explore the twins' new /cave/, leaving Jax with a plethora of bright bits of glass in the upstairs bathroom. He's in here, at the moment, in mottled blue-and-black jean shorts and a loose sleeveless black undershirt, perched on a lip of the bathtub, teeth pressing down against his lip as he presses the coloured glass into a recently-applied stretch of mortar. It's only when he finishes setting a piece into place on the last inch of wet mortar that he settles back, exhaling heavily and squinting at the bit of fantastical-underwater scenery currently put in place. His tongue presses up beneath his upper lip, fingers flexing slowly as though working out a kink.

Micah has been working on Installing Things in other parts of the house, adding in shelves and fixtures as needed with copious power drill usage. He's dressed simply in lime green paint stained bluejeans and a TARDIS blue T-shirt with Dr. Hooves posing in front of a Nouveau background on it. Break time seems to have come at roughly the same time for him as for Jax, as he wanders into the bathroom sipping from a teal tea thermos. “Hey, hon. How's it comin' along?” He holds the thermos out in offering. “S'a Darjeeling.”

Jax's fingers curl out towards the half-tiled wall, bright blue nails fluttering toward the tiles. He slides to the corner of the tub, curling his arm up around Micah's waist as his other hand (fingers still flecked with mortar) reaches for the thermos. "S'comin'." His cheek nuzzles up against Micah's side, and he tips his head down to take a sip of the tea. "You been havin' fun drillin' things?"

"All the drillin' and screwin'." Micah's lips twitch over to one side after he says this. "Home improvement and repairs always sound more suggestive than they should. Anyhow, the kitchen's all set. Figure I'll get the stuff into the other two bathrooms next." He takes a step back to be able to view the progressing mosaic better. "S'lookin' nice. How long y'think we'll need t'finish gettin' things t'where we can move in? Pretty sure the little things I'm doin'll take less time than the complicated artin' you got goin' on. An' we should /prob'ly/ at least get all the paintin' finished in Spence's room first."

Jax's cheeks flush at Micah's reply, face nuzzling up against his husband's side again before Micah steps back. "Not /all/ of it. I should know I'd've noticed if you done screwed everythin'." He takes another sip of the tea and hands the thermos back. "Ash offered t'help build furniture. S'good with his hands. I mean, /should/ be, he worked on buildin' this whole place. But -- I don't know, we work straight through the weekend while you're off work -- okay I guess there's Dai's graduation tomorrow so. But we could have Spence's bed finished by early on in the week -- I can do the paintin' while you're at work. Don't know 'bout his desk an' dresser an' the rest."

Micah giggles at Jax's blush, nevermind the rosy pink blossoming in his own cheeks. "Prob'ly would notice, I'd hope." Taking the thermos, he drinks from it again as he listens. "Sure. If he wants t'help us play carpenter, I won't say no. Figure we'll spend most of the weekend on it. You got more time t'keep workin' your art magic even durin' the week now. S'long as we got the kitchen, one bathroom, an' Spence's room finished for major installation of things, I'd say we could move in. Spence's so excited, I'd doubt he'd mind the lack of furniture. Next weekend, maybe? Or the one after if it takes longer'n we expected t'get things t'gether?"

"Through this week, 'least. M'goin' back t'work after. S'been --" Jax's nose crinkles. "Too long. Be nice t'be moved in here 'fore my appointments at the studio start back up. Convenient, anyway. Next weekend'd be a good thing t'aim for." He swings his legs over the edge of the tub, facing outwards towards Micah now, his palms braced on the tub's lip. "/I'm/ 'bout as excited as Spence, honest. This place is fantastic an'. Dusk an' Hive an' Flicker an' the pups an' Dai an' Mel an' Rachel an' Joshua an' Ash an' Jim's all here /already/." His brows crease for a moment, teeth sinking down against his lip. "Spence --" His head shakes abruptly, fingers dropping to rest against his knee.

"You're feelin' up for that? That's prob'ly the /best/ news." Micah moves to sit on the floor nearer to Jax. "Yeah, it'll be good t'be near everybody again. Been feelin' like we don't see nobody since the Lofts." His expression changes to one of deep concern quickly, brows dipping toward one another. "What? Is somethin' wrong with Spence?"

"Feelin' up for the studio. Ain't entire sure 'bout the Clinic yet an' -- well. Best to /be/ entire sure 'fore goin' back to /that/." Jax nudges a box of glass tiles aside, clearing space to slide down onto the floor beside Micah. "Oh -- no. No, there's -- nothin', it." He shakes his head quickly, sliding down onto his back and resting his head on Micah's thigh. "T'was only a dream."

“That's good, too. If you're feelin' like you're seein' things more like yourself enough t'/ink/ folks, that's a wonderful-good sign.” Micah lifts his arms to make room for Jax to lean against him, fingertips petting at his husband's head once he is settled. He tenses at the mention of the dream. “Was it in the sunroom, in the common house?”

"Yeah, m'eye's -- my sight was the first thing t'change when I was a kid, I guess it's. The first thing t'come back when --" Jax quiets, purring as he nuzzles up against Micah's hand. "Think my body's still tryin' to figure out things like /food/ an' sleep though. Still get -- tired all the --" His head shakes, and he tips his head back to press a kiss against Micah's palm. He cracks his eye open, brows lifting. "Yeah. It was. You said I was lazy. But it felt like -- like somethin' was. Real wrong."

“Kay was sayin' the same thing. That it was kinda like bein' a teenager again, just more controlled.” Micah's fingers scritch in a bit at the nuzzling. “What does Io think of your insulin dosin'?” He nods in recognition of the events in the dream. “Y'know that was just teasin'. But I got that idea, too. Sounded like /a lot/ of Clinic appointments.”

"Is, kinda. Only had /one/ kinda-accident an' all I did was singe the art room a bit. Much better'n the first time 'round. An' s'been kinda hard t'figure out keepin' my dosin' proper, s'fast as everything keeps changin'. Though I've -- probably," Jax says apologetically, lifting a hand to brush his fingertips against Micah's jaw, "been fillin' the room with nightmares at night again." His eye closes once more, soft purring starting up again as he presses into the scritching. "It did sound like a lot. I jus' -- ever since we found Spence I've knowed there was a chance of --" Around him there's a brief shiver of darkness that steadies out again soon. "... was different than the others. Shane was – older."

"Not settin' things on fire by accident? Total bonus." Ducking his head down, Micah places a soft kiss on the other man's forehead. "Little bit. But that ain't nothin' I ain't used to." He sets his Thermos at his side, freeing up his other hand to add to the headrubs and scritches. "Like what's been goin' on with Sera," he observes softly. "But I got that impression, too. Shane was talkin' 'bout Dai gettin' ready t'graduate college. An' I was talkin' like it wouldn't be long 'til he turned 21. I didn't...think it was one of /those/ dreams on accounta it was so far off."

"Maybe it ain't one'a those dreams." Jax sounds a little more hopeful, here. "Maybe it was jus' -- oh. But we both had the same -- should ask Shane. Too." His teeth wiggle unhappily at a lip ring. "It's just -- just a /lot/ of mutant kids don't. Make it through --" His fingers scrunch deeply into his shirt, head turning up to press into the pettings again. "An' Spence's ability ain't /never/ been the most stable'a things, I just. Hoped it'd. Get /better/ an' not worse."

“Don't know 'bout that, sugar, we /shared/ it again,” Micah reminds, gentle in answer to Jax's hopeful tone. “Maybe it's just...the adolescent thing. Like when most kids /get/ their abilities. Just be a little haywire for a bit an' then settle into. Whatever it'll be like for 'im as an adult an' all.”

"Right. Right, we shared it. It's just." Jax grips his shirt tighter, fingers clenching and releasing. "I don't know. The adolescent thing -- like when most kids /get/ their abilities is when a lotta mutant kids start to increase in power an' if -- if your powers are goin' haywire /an'/ gettin' stronger that. Ain't a good combination."

“I know, sugar, it's just... What're we s'posed t'do about it when we don't even know when, what, or /if/ somethin's gonna happen?” One of Micah's hands moves to pet along Jax's arm in an attempt at being soothing. “I'm not sayin' it's not worryin'. Or that we won't /want/ t'do somethin'. Just...there ain't much for now, is there? In the meantime, we gotta figure another raid. Findin' the facility Matt's at. What t'do 'bout the chips we done dreamed up already.” He leans in for another kiss. “An' we got a whole house t'get ready for movin',” he adds on a more cheerful note.

"Yeah -- no, okay, yeah. You're -- you're right. I just. Was hopin' we -- right. OK. Should worry about the here-an'-now stuff that we can. Can do somethin' about." Jax tips his head back, pressing his lips lightly against Micah's. "... do got a whole house, don't we. Of our very own."

“It's somethin' t'keep in mind. If we hear anythin' researchin' kids with X-genes an' all. But, yeah. I'd say t'save that worry for its own time, otherwise.” Micah's nose nuzzles lightly against Jax's with the kiss. “We do. Sittin' right in it /right now/. With all your pretty art. Luci wants t'commission you once we're done here. Hive was talkin' 'bout maybe havin' y'do stuff in the common areas, too.”

"Yeah. Whole house an' -- an' the pups /right/ there an' Dusk an' Hive an' Flicker an' --" Jax curls his hand against the back of Micah's head, fingers twining into his husband's hair. "Luci? Really? His house is /already/ so pretty. Could do somethin' in his kitchen maybe. Pick up those pretty green highlights from his counters." He follows up the kiss with another, softer and longer. "... 'kay. I'm bein' good, see. Not worryin'."

“It'll be glorious. The whole gang back t'gether again. With less drivin' t'Westchester.” Micah sounds exceedingly pleased at the prospect. Or maybe that's just the fingers in his hair. “Not sure what he wanted you t'do. Just asked if you'd take commissions when he saw the kitchen.” There are assuredly no complaints at more kisses.

"Glorious," Jax murmurs in soft agreement, though there's a distracted note to his voice that might not be overly focused on the conversation anymore. His fingers press in at the back of Micah's neck, lips parting against the other man's. "-- Oh." He's a little flushed when he breaks off, nose crinkling up apologetically. "I got mortar in your hair."

“Mmhm,” Micah confirms, sinking down into the deeper kiss. “Ain't the worst thing I've had in it. Tend t'get covered in fibreglass. Plaster. Motor oil. S'a messy life.” He obviously isn't too worried, seeking more kisses instead.

"Could stand t'be a bit messier." Jax's hand slides down, fingers slipping beneath Micah's shirt and skimming up against the other man's side. A small pleased sound hums in his throat as he deepens the kiss, curling his hand around to Micah's back.

“There's one I don't hear often,” Micah replies with a chuckle that slips into a soft gasp at the fingers sliding up his ribs. He cradles Jax's head with one hand through the deeper kisses, his other moving under his husband's shirt to rasp his nails along his stomach.

Jax's stomach tenses beneath Micah's nails, the quiet hum turning to a soft moan. He presses up harder into the kisses, fingers kneading in against Micah's back. "Oh. Oh, we should -- I want --" For a little bit this is all he manages in between kisses until finally pulling away to press smaller kisses down the side of Micah's neck. "-- should move. Somewhere. Where there won't be broken glass chips everywhere."

Micah's arms wrap tight around Jax, pulling the other man up against him for fiercer kisses. "Yes," is all he manages for awhile. "Mmn. That's prob'ly more mess'n y'meant. We got a whole bedroom. Ain't got hardly anythin' in it. S'definitely less glassy." He tilts his chin to allow access to his neck, not quite moving as of yet.

Jax does move, though not /far/; he sits up enough to climb more properly into Micah's lap, knees straddling his husband's hips. His lips close against the other man's neck, sucking skin between his lips as both hands run up Micah's sides and against his chest. "Whole bedroom," he agrees, pressing his mouth back to Micah's, "we should --" Should sink into hungrier kisses, maybe; at least, that is what he is currently doing.

A soft growl rumbles deep in Micah's throat as Jax settles on top of him, only growing louder as the other man's mouth pulls at his neck. His hands grip into the back of Jax's shirt, pressing him tight against his chest as he returns and deepens the kisses. "Could /prob'ly/ carry y'there from here like this. Ain't far," he suggests breathily between kisses. "Just gotta be careful I don't run your head into a doorframe."

"I'll try not t'distract you," Jax says with a quiet giggle, fingers sliding over Micah's chest. He nips lightly at the side of the other man's neck, tongue flicking against the skin before his kisses return to find Micah's mouth. "-- /too/ much."
