<BOM> Kitchen and Dining Room - Main Lodge - Ascension Island

Though equipped to feed and seat a few dozen people, these rooms lack an institutional feel. A large stone fireplace along one wall has a wide mantelpiece above it; the walls and floors are smooth blonde birch and darker grey stone. The solid wood tables are circular, designed to seat six apiece. The lighting overhead is soft, stained-glass hanging lamps over each table and recessed lighting studded at intervals into the walls. Though the tables all match, the chairs do not, an assortment of styles from extravagantly ornate high-backed oak to plastic-and-metal folding chairs.

The kitchen adjoins the living room through a large pair of swinging doors. Recently refurbished, its new appliances still gleam. The giant fridge and freezer to the right are generally well-stocked, as is the large cool stone walk-in pantry set alongside them. Its back door opens out onto the gardens. The center island is a long granite counter, the cabinets underneath it stocked with pots and pans and cooking dishes of all types. Three sinks are set against the left-hand wall. Overhead, numerous cabinets hold dishes and glasses and mugs for actual eating; the drawers below have utensils for the same. Hooks on the walls are available for hanging -- dishtowels, oven mitts, severed body parts, whatever is in need of hanging.

The kitchen is almost empty and quiet, but for the gentle rattle of a tea kettle on the stove, which only gradually grows louder. Leaning the small of his back against the counter, Teague idly fiddles with something in his hands as he waits for the water to come to a boil. Fresh from a shower, the teen’s long black-ish hair hangs down to block his face and whatever he’s toying with. He wears a thin, black gym shorts and what once may have been a gray t-shirt, it’s arms and most of the side fabric cut away to expose a great deal of skin. His arms and some of his exposed sides are bruised here and there from training sessions, but only minorly.

Moments after Teague enters, Anette also enters, an empty beer bottle in one hand. Noticing Teague, she takes a moment to glance him over with a raised eyebrow and grin before making her way over to the recycling and dumping the bottle in. "Hey, long time no see." She makes her way to the fridge and pulls out another bottle, popping the top and taking a swig. "Getting some fighting practice in?" she asks, leaning up against the center island.

Teague lets out a soft murmur of acknowledgement, eyes flicking up after a moment in time to catch Anette's migration across the room to the recycling bin. "Didn't take you for environmentally conscientious," he says in an amused, quiet tone. Lips curving into a half-smile, he brings up a hand to sweep back a great deal of his hair.

Anette grins. "Hey, pollution leads to air pollution and don't you know who's affected the most by smog?" In case you can't figure it out, she flutters her wings slightly. "So, you live here then? Not trying for a place of your own in the city?" she takes another swig of her beer.

“I have the most to gain from being close at hand,” Teague pivots, pocketing whatever it was in his hand and lifting up the kettle just as it starts mustering up a whistle, “Besides, I don’t really know the city at all.” Steam rises up from behind him as he pours hot water into a heavy Disney World mug, “Somebody mentioned you had a flat, though. Can’t think of who. You don’t like it here?”

"Well, I had the flat first before I joined the Brotherhood. Didn't see a reason to give it up. Besides, I like having my own place. Even it is a third world country." Anette takes another swig of her beer, watching him pocket the mysterious thing curiously, though she doesn't say anything just yet. "Only way to get to know the city is to go out and explore. If you ever want a tour guide, let me know."

“Oh, yeah? I may take you up on that,” puffing on the mug of tea, Teague turns to watch Anette, “Why do I have the feeling you get into it all the time, though.” He purrs out a laugh, “Do you have flatmates? Or is it just you on your own?”

"Get into all of what?" Anette asks. "Nope, no flatmates, no boyfriends. Mostly me on my own, though Daken has been spending quite a bit of time over. And occasionally whoever I happen to meet at a club or bar. I'm not really the 'live with someone' type. Worst part of school was the roommate situation. Well...that and everything else.

Anette chuckles slightly. "Oh, right, trouble. Well, it usually tends to find me. Not that I mind." At the mention of Daken, she grins but shrugs slightly. "He's...passionate, about what he believes. Maybe he has a screw or two loose but who doesn't? I like him, he's refreshingly honest. I don't think he's so bad." She finishes off her beer and sets the bottle on the island.

Teague grins, "I guess I wouldn't mind some once in a while, either." To Daken, the boy nudges his chin somewhat, accepting what she says, "And I suppose he can't be all that bad, if he ended up here with us, right?" His grin broadens, cat-like.

Anette nods. "He's not so bad. If you're going to be in a fight, he's good to have on your side. Terrifying though. Has a habit of getting himself shot. Not that it affects him much but it's still terrifying. Did he ever tell you about that time we almost got mugged? I'd have killed him if I were able." She shrugs slightly. "But no, he's alright." She glances over Teague a moment and suddenly grins. "So, I think you've figured out what my powers are and I'm pretty sure you've got an idea about Daken's. Mind sharing your story?"

"What now?" Teague bats his lashes, "My story?" He slips a hand into his pocket and in a graceful, underhanded motion, tosses whatever it is he'd been fiddling with earlier over to her.

No larger than a thimble, the shimmery gem appears to have formed in a way where its many sloped sides and rivets make it resemble a four legged creature. Maybe a dog, or a lamb. Whatever the animal, it's definitely a diamond.

"Was trying for one of those Red Rose Tea Figurines, but I fell a bit short," Teague explains, bringing his mug to his lips, "My mum always collected those."

Anette catches the mysterious objects and looks it over closely. "This is your power? Carving small animals into objects?" She tosses it back to him. "It's cute. A little...kitschy for my tastes, but cute."

“Thanks,” Teague purrs, holding up his hand to catch it, “I try to be my best.” He smirks, observing the little object for a moment before offering it back, held up between two fingers for her to see in the light, “It’s a diamond.”

"So diamonds then? Hmm, I see a viable career in jewelry for you. So, close to your mum? Must be nice. Never been particularly close to my parents, especially after the wing growth spurt." Anette shrugs slightly but doesn't seem too perturbed.

“She’s dead,” Teague explains placidly, shrugging a shoulder and pocketing the figurine once again. Shying from the topic, he forces up a yawn as if on command, bringing up the back of his free hand to cover his mouth, “Ah-I’m sorry. I’m on the morning schedule for combat training. I really ought to get some shut eye.” Cupping both hands around his mug, he pushes away from the counter and saunters towards the door, “I look forward to you showing me all the sights sometime, though.”

"Oh...sorry," Anette says simply, though the fade off in her voice suggests it might be genuine. "Right, fighting while sleep deprived is never good. I've had the bruises to prove it." She nods as she grabs her bottle and takes it to the recycling. "Just let me know, I'm usually free."

“Don’t be,” Teague says as he continues through the doorway, “She was a tosser. ...And will do.” He forces up the corner of his mouth into a half-hearted smile before pressing on out into the living area, and presumably out into the night.
