xxxxx On October 19th, people across Manhattan started noticing a subtle muffling of sound. Though barely perceptible at first, it quickly grew strong enough to interfer with spoken communication, among other things. The effect seems to grow in the presence of loud noises, though as it strengthens, even faint noises grow fainter.
