<XS> Derek, Kaine, and Taylor's Dorm - FL2

The influx of new students this year has led to a bit of overcrowding at Xavier's, and it is starting to show in the dorm arrangements, many rooms like this one refitted for three students where they had once been built for only two. The standard two closets have been joined by a large armoire against one wall; three dressers have been moved in, three desks. A bunk bed on the left side, a lofted twin with its desk underneath it on the right.

Underneath the single loft bed, Taylor's belongings have returned to their usual state of disarray. The desk cluttered, the space /under/ the desk cluttered, the space beside the desk home to stacked piles of things; his hamper is overflowing with clothing, his bed unmade. The door to the dorm is currently ajar; there's music (Fetty Wap's "Trap Queen") blaring from the large speakers attached to Taylor's laptop. Taylor himself is seated at his desk, chair spun around backwards, in jeans, no shoes, no shirt, physics homework out in front of him and his parrot perched on one shoulder. The bird is bobbing along to the music -- so is Taylor's head, at least until the parrot scuttles down one tentacle to nab the pencil out of Taylor's hand. "What, /you/ want to do my homework, be my guest."

"I've got enough troubleth with my own homework." Derek jokingly comments upon entering the room. His attire is what it usually is, jeans and a plain t-shirt under his jean jacket. Unlike Taylor, Derek hasn't created a mess in the room, with the exception of also having an unmade bed, but mainly because he doesn't have much stuff. A half full laundry bag is slung over his shoulder as he's just gotten finished washing his clothes. He throws the bag on his bed and follows suit, climbing to sit, and empties out the few clothes he has to start folding them. "How'th it going Taylor?" He doesn't say anything about the music even though it's not to his tastes but he's the newcomer to the room and he's not about to stop Taylor from listening to something he enjoys.

"Cora's pretty brilliant but I'm not sure she's up to the task of physics yet." Not that that's stopping Coraline from tapping the pencil against Taylor's paper, bapbapbap. Taylor does reach out a tentacle towards the speakers when Derek walks in -- he doesn't turn /off/ the music but does turn it down a hair. "Going -- uhhh. Full of homework." He leaves this statement up for interpretation -- though he's evidently not too /attached/ to the homework, because he turns aside from it to face Derek. "Shiiit, laundry. I haven't done that, like, all term. Uh." He looks a little sheepish about this. Maybe because he doesn't /really/ have enough clothes to get away with this. They're probably starting to smell a bit ripe. "Plus I think I'm out of detergent do you have any I could -- steal?"

"I thill gotta finith my homework that'th due tomorrow. I'll try not to be up all hourth trying to get it done." That's if Derek gets his homework done at all. "No, thorry I don't. I uthed the thchoolth thuff." He just doesn't have any spare money to go out and buy anything. "It'th eathier to thay on top of your laundry when you have a few pairs of jeanth, five or thix thirts and jutht ath many pairth of sockth and underwear. I'm only taking up one drawer if you need the extra thpace to keep thuff." He can't help but think that it must be nice to be able to have enough clothes to be able to go so long without washing them as he hasn't really noticed the smell. "Ath for Cora, the's probably better at thchool work than I am." He half jokes.

"Probably does help," Taylor agrees with a small furrow of his brow. "I'm good on space. I /have/ the space, I just -- uh." He quirks a sheepish smile over at his pile of mess. "Probably need to be beter at, uh. Organizing it, whoops. My bad." He rocks his chair absently from side to side, creaking it back to lean against his desk. "Stay up however late, trust me, you doing homework is /not/ what keeps me up at night. You should /hear/ the crazy-ass shit people get up to thinking late at night around here." His grin is bright. "I prefer the homework, to be honest. Booooring. Puts me /right/ to sleep."

"Don't think I'm bothered by your meth, honethly I'm not." Derek's just trying to be a good roommate and with being the new kid he doesn't want cause any problems. "Yeah.. I gueth I got off eathy with my powerth. All I do ith thake thingth. I almotht think having to hear what everyone'th thinking hath to be pretty annoying." << More annoying than the tentacles. >> "Thorry if what goeth on in my head ever botherth you. I know I don't have the happietht thuff going on in my head." << Just don't think about home an"d you'll be fine. >> "Tho... I heard there'th thome Halloween party here. Theems like a big deal?"

"That's alright. Everyone's got their shit to deal with, right? You don't ever have to apologize for what you're thinking. I mean, your mind's your own." Taylor is reaching around behind him, finally gently prying his pencil back from Coraline. "Oh /man/ oh man! Halloween around here is fucking on /point/, yo. They go /all/ the hell out. Are you gonna come? To the party? Dance? Whatever? Dress up? It's worth it just to get a load of the decorating."

"Probably not, I dunno. Maybe. I'm not good with crowdth." Derek just remembers the one time he went to a school dance and it being awkward and not a lot of fun. "I might go, Herc and thith girl I just met latht night, Liv, were trying to convinthe me to go and, I dunno. Not going to dreth up though." << Don't have money for costume. >> "Never wath big on the Halloween thing, or holidayth in general. Not the latht few yearth at leatht. Danthes were alwayth for the popular kidth back home, I uthually hung out with a few friendth and we'd get wrecked. Don't think that flyth here though." He lets out a small chuckle and hops down from his bed to put his half-assed folded clothes away. "Are you drething up?"

"I dunno. Maaaybe. Only so many years in a row you can be Cthulhu, you know?" Taylor chuckles, folding four of his arms across his chest. "I'm super big on holidays. Dancing, drinking, lots of food, what's not to love. Well, /here/, anyway. I definitely prefer it when the food is free." He rubs the tip of one tentacle against his head, admitting: "Dances might be for the popular kids everywhere, but, you know, fuck 'em. -- What /are/ you gonna do with your weekend if you're not gonna party? There's plenty of places to get wrecked that aren't campus, anyway."

"Theriouthly, even underaged? I mean I knew all the wayth to get thuff back home but New York I know nothing outthide of here. Honethly, I haven't figured out what to do on weekendth here bethideth homework tho who knowth what I'd be doing." Derek cannot believe those words just came out of his mouth as a kid who maybe did his homework once every other month at his last school. "Free food, I can't dithagree with that. The food at thith plathe ith good. It'th really good. What'th a Cathuthu..Cathuuuu, what you jutht thaid. That word and my lithp jutht doethn't cooperate." Smiling, Derek isn't really bothered by it as his lisp is one of his shortcomings he's most comfortable with.

"Homework is fine for some weekends," Taylor informs Derek earnestly, "but a /holiday/ weekend, no way. I would be derelict in my roommating duties if I let you hole up in here all weekend with homework. I know a couple clubs that are shitty-ass at checking IDs and I'm pretty sure I could get you a fake before next weekend. Or there's always just getting someone to get the booze /for/ us and kicking it somewhere --" He shrugs one tentacle. "Not-here. Better-than-there. Cthulu is this tentacle monster horror demon thing from this series of horrormonster books." His smile is broad again. He turns around briefly, pulling up a quick google image search on his laptop to show the pictures to Derek. "No relation."

"Are you thure, I mean the resemblance ith quite uncanny." Derek jokes now that he understands why Taylor would go as Cthulu. "But theriouthly, I could hug you right now dude. I wath pretty thure motht people here were going to be pretty thraith when it came to that thort of thing." It's the classy appearance of the Mansion. "But.. I'll check out the party thith weekend. Then maybe find an after party or thomething. Tho how long have you been here at Xavier'th?"

"We do both have a certain something, huh?" Taylor turns his head to the side, examining one of the more cartoonish Cthulhu images. "I think it's the nose." He pushes his chair back around to face Derek again, turning aside from the laptop. "And some people here are boring-as-fuck. Some people --" Taylor shrugs. "I mean, fancy school or not, everyone likes to have fun sometimes, right?" His tongue presses up underneath his lip. "I've been here -- shit. Since middle school. Long-ass time."

"Wow, tho I gueth I'll be bothering you if I have any quethtionth." Derek is definitely taken back by that answer but at the same time a bit relieved that he has someone who knows the ropes. "I would like to think tho, I'm not the motht outgoing of guyth but I do like to relaxth and obviouthly have thome fun." His phone chimes and Derek takes it out of his pocket to check the message. "Fuck, I forgot, I wath meeting up with my thither five minuteth ago. Daith is gonna give me hell. Sorry to run out Taylor, I'll be back later. I gueth I'll let you and Cora get back to homework! Thankth for the chat!"

"Totally. You been here long enough, you know all the ways to --" Taylor waggles his hand in the air. "Get /creative/ with the rules." He jerks his chin upward to Derek, picking his pencil back up. "I was so hoping she'd finish my work for me before you let me get back to it." Juuust a little wry as he turns his attention back to physics.
