"You really should know better than to trust me by now."

Location

<BOM> The Spatters - Ascension Island

A comfortable three-bedroom cabin, sturdily built if inelegant. The front door opens up into a cozy sitting room with small bathroom; it is adjoined by a kitchenette with room for small table. The three bedrooms here -- two off the sitting room, one on the other side of the kitchen -- are not uniform in size nor layout, with the considerably smaller kitchen-adjacent room having its own screened-in porch.

The sun set so long ago it's just beginning to rise again, though only the faintest hint of orange is visible on the horizon. The island is quiet, almost peaceful and a cool chill lingers in the air. Most of the cabins are dark and still, too early for the early birds and the night owls have just gone to sleep.

Except in this cabin. Anette steps out of the bathroom to a fully lit living room, wearing her usual workout attire: black sports bra, black leggings, barefeet. Her cheeks are rosy from a recent flight but if she's tired, she doesn't show it. Somehow she has energy to spare as she begins rearranging the furniture in the living room, clearing out an empty space on the floor. Once she has the room, she lifts her fists and bounces on her feet, throwing jabs to an invisible enemy.

There's a gentle skittering on the roof, which is followed shortly by the sound of a door somewhere opening. Then a grumbling from inside Pedro's room. His door opens, and he steps out, clad in only boxers. Obviously intending on crashing soon. He stops to stare at Anette. "Mierda. Uh. Hi. Are... are you okay?", he wonders, running a hand through his unruly hair.

Anette doesn't even bother stopping, merely looking over to Pedro as he enters. His state of undress doesn't phase her, she merely resumes kickboxing her imaginary target. "Yeah, fine. Just don't want to sleep." This is followed by several spinning kicks, wings spread to aid in balance. "What about you? You and Daken make friends while I was gone? Don't tell me you pity the bastard."

Pedro looks at her a few moments, before shaking his head. "No. Just didn't want you two to fight. We are on the same team, right?" He yawns and stretches. "You okay? You uh... don't usually exercise at uh, oh my god in the morning, si?" He moves to settle on one end of the couch, bringing up his feet to rest his chin on his head.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Pissed, terrified, and upset. But fine. What the hell does he think he's doing, just showing up out of the blue? And blaming /me/ for his disappearance?" Anette rambles, continuing her sparring, focusing on various combos. Even as her skin begins to glisten with sweat and she can be heard to pant softly, she shows no signs of slowing. "What the fucking hell do I do now? I just...it's like he came back from the dead. He was gone, I mourned him, and he came back."

Pedro shakes his head. "He was not blaming you. He blames himself. He was, in his own, wrong, way, trying to protect you. He's scared of himself, you know? Like.. if he is immortal, with that healing of his.. and he were to fall into a deep depression, you have to admit he could do a bunch damage to people."

"I'm sorry, whose side are you on again?" Anette asks, her voice taking a darker turn as her routine picks up the pace. "I'm scared of myself every fucking day. I was scared of /him/, of being close to him, of loving him, of loving anyone. You know how I am. He...I trusted him. I trusted him and he destroyed it." She finally stops, panting hard, her heart racing as she turns to face Pedro. "I should have taken him up on his offer. I should have sent his claws through his neck. I should have sent /my/ claws through his neck."

"I'm on your side.", Pedro says, glowering at her. "I was trying to stop you from doing something stupid. Instead you ran off to do something else just as stupid. As far as I can tell, you don't have the ability to raise the dead. Unless he's trying to fucking kill you, you shouldn't just take his life. You would regret it, in the end."

"It was his idea. I'd agree with you but...it was his idea," Anette points out, moving to the other end of the couch and using the back as a ballet bar to stretch. "It's not my problem if he's suicidal. I'm just helping him out." She rests her leg on the back of the couch, bending her torso over, hands touching her toes. "And what do you think he's going to do if he finds out I'm with Killian? Or that I was with you? He's threatened to off people for looking at me. I can't trust him. Am I supposed to just wait for him to fly into a jealous rampage?" She turns her head to watch Pedro curiously. "And what makes you think I actually did anything?"

Pedro stares at her. "Are you saying you didn't? Because, you know, you kickbox all the time at this hour, right? Perfectly normal routine." He hunches over and lets out a breath. "Doesn't matter if it was his idea, it's not right. I mean, fuck, I'm a bit of a pacifist, I get that. But just killing him?" The bat mutant rubs his cheeks a moment. "He's not going to fly into a rage, I think. He sounded rather broken."

Anette slowly stands up and lowers her leg to the floor. "Pedro - you're a terrorist." She makes her way to the other side of the couch and sits down, though she leans away from Pedro. "You don't know that. You don't know what he's going to do. You don't know what I'll do. I don't know what I'll do. And I don't just mean whether or not I kill him." She idly scratches at her left arm as she speaks, staring off towards the wall. "He's not broken enough."

Pedro squints. "Yeah, I am a terrorist. But I ain't about to kill one of our own. I know he did you wrong. But not that kind of wrong." He huffs out a breath and shakes his head again. "Perhaps he is not broken enough in your mind. But he is broken, I don't think he'd be suicidal otherwise."

Anette glances over towards Pedro narrowing her eyes as she studies him before sighing and leaning back against the couch. "You never answered my question. What do I do now? I can't forgive him. And I have...no idea what I feel right now. I have no idea where to go from here." She glances towards Pedro again, giving a dark chuckle and shaking her head. "I'm surprised you're not ransacking the apartment for drugs. Or lecturing me. Since you don't believe I didn't."

Pedro yawns and stretches once more. "You leave it be, for now. He'll be around, but I doubt he'll be trying to be chummy. You'll have to calm down enough to actually talk to him without getting mad. Work it out. I mean, you can't stay mad at him forever, life is too short for that. You don't have to like him, though." The bat mutant rubs at one of his eyes a moment. "Sorry. I figured you'd have reacted uhm.. guiltily if you'd gone out somewhere to get a hit. Not going to ransack the place. Too tired. And. I'd rather trust you than distrust you."

Anette nods faintly. "I think...sleep might be a good thing. Let me clear my head. Just...make sure he stays away, alright? I don't want to see or talk to him. Not yet." She slowly rises from the couch, yawning softly as she walks in the direction toward her room. A few steps away, she stops, merely standing in the middle of the floor before she briefly turns her head towards Pedro. "You really should know better than to trust me by now," is all she says before making her way to her bedroom again.
