"Killian and I broke up. Again."

Location

<BOM> The Nightfort - Ascension Island

A comfortable three-bedroom cabin, sturdily built if inelegant. The front door opens up into a cozy sitting room, sparsely furnished as yet. A futon, a coffeetable, a bookshelf (largely stacked with programming books). The sitting room is adjoined by an equally simple kitchenette with room for small table.

The three bedrooms here -- two off the sitting room, one on the other side of the kitchen -- are not uniform in size nor layout, with the considerably smaller kitchen-adjacent room having its own screened-in porch. The one bathroom off the living room has an extremely large claw-foot tub that takes up much of its space.

It's been a while since the incident at Evolve, and Akihiro may have been avoiding Anette. So when he shows up it's with bags in tow. "Anette?" he calls from the door, leaning over so he can be seen through the window, "I've got ice cream and tequila!" Apparently his way of apologizing is with gifts.

He might be late with the tequila, judging by the way Anette leans back against her chair, clutching the bottle of whiskey and holding it in her lap. She perks up as she hears Akihiro call out. "Come in," she yells back, and resumes leaning against the chair, staring at the wall opposite her, occupied by her own thoughts.

"Jesus Christ," Akihiro stops where he's at in the doorway. "I miss a party already?" With a slight shrug he comes right on in, putting the ice cream and tequila in the freezer. "No, that can't be it. You're in a better mood after a party, what's up?"

"I dunno, might be a party for you," Anette mumbles, taking another swig of her whiskey as she waits for Akihiro to put his presents away. Once he returns, she glances towards him and shrugs slightly. "Killian and I broke up. Again. Except...slightly more permanently this time." Another swig from her whiskey. "Feel free to celebrate, I'm too drunk to care."

While he may not like the man, Akihiro's entire demeanor drops when Anette says that. "What? I'm so sorry." He comes around and gives Anette a squeeze, as long as she allows it. "I should have brought more booze and ice cream."

Anette doesn't exactly say no to the squeeze, merely accepting it as she takes another drink. "He was just...always gone. Doing his jobs. He'd say he'd stick around and then find something else to do. I couldn't do it. I...we decided it was for the best." She tilts the bottle back, finishing off the last few gulps and setting the empty bottle beside her. "Still hurts like a sonuvabitch."

"Alright, yeah that's fucked." Akihiro huffs, heading over to the table and taking a seat. He retrieves a pack of blueberry cigars from his pocket, along with a sandwich baggy full of marijuana. "If you need anything, like hitting this blunt, let me know." With that out of the way, he begins breaking down the nuggets.

Anette's head falls to the side as she watches Akihiro pull out the weed. "Y'got anything stronger? Heat maybe? Don't think there's any marijuna that'll help right now..." She begins to stand up, hands pressed against the arms of the chair, though she lasts on her own two feet for about three seconds before the booze suddenly hits her and she falls back into the chair. "Fantastic..." she mumbles, turning her head to stare longingly at the cabinet she keeps the liquor in. At least, the one she thinks the liquors in, she's currently seeing more than one.

"All I've got to offer is Chinaco Reposado, turtle tracks, Alaskan Thunderfuck, and an erotic massage. Take your pick of that." Akihiro disposes of the tobbaco inside the cigar and replaces it with close to two grams of the potent bud. "Not sure any of that'll help with it. Only thing that will do anything worth a damn is time."

"Heat pills worked a lot faster," Anette says, eventually giving up and leaning against the chair again. "Why do I do this? Think I can be happy? I always end up feeling like shit. Like...I know better. Just...do my own thing, not worry about anyone else, come and go as I please..." She waves her hands around dramatically, emphasizing her very slurred points. "I loved him. I still love him. And...between you and me, I coulda seen me and him as...more. Bigger." She takes a deep breath, picking up the bottle and checking it again incase any booze magically reappeared. "Guess it's back to constant drinking, fucking, and not giving a shit. Things were a lot simpler back then. Less heartbreak."

"Amen." Akihiro finishes rolling the blunt. "Though maybe you should just use it to become a better person. Maybe that's why it keeps happening, so you can learn from it and grow?" After testing the air flow of his smoke, he pushes up and brings the chair over to Anette. "Or it's a sign that love isn't for you. Know it isn't for me."

"I'm already a fantastic person, what the hell are you talking about?" Anette says, attempting to smirk but making more of a lopsided grin instead. "I don't need any improvements. Love isn't for me...that sounds about right." She turns in her chair, legs dangling over one arm and leaning against the other. "Though love tends to find me despite its best efforts. Hell, me and you were just fuck buddies and somewhere along the line you end up talking about marriage?"

"Because I love you." Akihiro lifts his shoulders in a shrug before lighting up the blunt. "But shit happened. Killian showed up. I left. And you fell in love with somebody else. So now you just have a buddy." He hits the thing a few more times, then offers it over to Anette.

Anette shakes her head at the offered blunt. "I'm already seeing double, let's not multiply it." She pulls her legs in and curls up in her chair, her wings draped over the arm as she watches Akihiro. "Do you think we could be something again some day?" she asks, closing her eyes as takes a deep breath of the smoke lingering in the air.

"That isn't up to me." Akihiro leans back, filling his lungs with smoke once more. "I already tried that anyway. Found out who you preferred." Apparently being second best doesn't sit well with his issues with self-worth.

"Right now, I'm pretty sure my standards are 'physically here'. 'Sides...you're the one who left the first time." Anette opens her eyes and glances towards the cabinets again. Slowly, she makes it to her feet again, using the chair as support. She pauses a few seconds, waiting for the room to stop spinning before she makes her way towards the kitchen in a less than straight line.

"Left so I wouldn't have to run off and kill anybody else. Managed to convince Romulus I was dead while I was gone. Blew off the only person I was afraid of so you would be safe." Akihiro rises, moving to follow Anette in case she takes a dive.

"Is mixing tequila and whiskey good or bad? I don't remember..." Anette says, remembering the tequila in the freezer and redirecting her path. She reaches for it and, after a few grabs, manages to take it. Holding it close to her, she begins to make her way back to the living room, though after few steps away from the fridge, her feet cross in a way they're not meant to cross and she tumbles.

And Akihiro is there, wrapping an arm around Anette's waist and pulling her back up into him. "Woah, you alright?" He loosens his grip, but keeps his arm there just in case. "I think mixing any more liquor in with that is a bad idea."

Anette manages to brace herself against Akihiro and keep herself from falling any further. More importantly, she quickly wrapped her arms around the bottle and held it to her chest, saving it from a tragic ending. Her heart pounding from the near fall, she stares wide-eyed up to Akihiro. She pauses, her eyes looking into his and glancing down to his lips as, for a split second, even she is unsure what she's about to do. She stands up though and, still leaning against Akihiro for support, she pops the cap off the tequila and gulps some down. "Bad ideas are what I do best."

"Obviously, or I wouldn't have been here to stop you from busting your ass." Akihiro chides Anette gently, pressing a kiss to the top of her head before guiding her back to the chair. "I got some sleep last night. Get as drunk as you need to, and I'll hang out to make sure you don't get hurt."

"You're too damn nice to me," Anette says, taking another gulp of her tequila as she falls back down into the chair, only spilling a little bit of it on herself. "Y'know I live with a bat and a gargoyle, right? What is it about bats that I keep living with them? I miss Pedro..."

"I liked the kid." Akihiro agrees, sighing quietly. "If you want me to leave it to them, I can do that too. I totally have a life outside of visiting you. I don't spend that time sitting in public places people watching. Not at all." The blunt is ashed before he burns a hole in anything, and the chair is revisited once again.

Anette shakes her head. "No, it's fine. I like having you around," she says. "And you have as much of a life outside of people watching as I do outside of drinking." She takes another gulp of her tequila, curling in her chair again with the bottle cradled in her lap.

"So the only time we do anything, is if we go out together." Akihiro takes another drag from the blunt before tapping it out. "We're a couple of miserable assholes. Maybe we should have stayed fuck buddies, then we'd both be happy at least."

"If we'd stayed as fuck buddies, we'd have just fallen in love with each other and broken each others hearts." Anette says, leaning her head against the chair again. "Maybe we're the best we can do for each other. I mean...we can't even be friends without constant arguing. Maybe we're supposed to just be miserable together."

"That's just because we know each other. And I'm a moody bitch." Akihiro sets the blunt aside and moves over to stand behind Anette's chair so he can rub her shoulders. "Besides, we've broken each other's hearts more than once. And we're still friends. So you know I'm not going anywhere. You've got a friend in me forever."

Anette leans back, moaning softly as Akihiro begins working on her shoulders and leaning back against him. "We're still something. Don't know if we're friends. We're something."

"If not friends, then what?" Akihiro leans over so his lips are near Anette's ear, "Not sure there's a word that works any better."

"Maybe not," Anette agrees, tilting her head to get a better look at Akihiro. "Speaking of us being terrible, don't think I apologized about last time. With the arguing and...telling you to leave and calling you...just, sorry."

"Like I said, I'm a moody bitch." Akihiro takes the opportunity to place a quick peck onto Anette's forehead. "Sometimes you just have to tell me to fuck off every now and again."

"Hmm...maybe we could make it work after all," Anette teases, turning her head and giving Akihiro a drunken peck on the lips before turning back and leaning against him. "You can stay the night if you want..." she says, leaning her head up against him again.

"Maybe I'll wait and consult with sober Anette about that." Akihiro grins, pressing his lips up against Anette's neck. "But how about you join me on the couch?"

"All I said was you could stay the night. Anything you got out of that...all you," Anette teases, smiling softly as Akihiro kisses her neck. "I dunno. You might have to carry me. Not sure I can even sit up right now." Not that it stops her from taking another gulp of tequila.

"I know how handsy you get when you're drunk." Akihiro teases, scooping Anette up into his arms. "Last thing I need is you grinding on me." He heads right on over to the couch, sitting down while still holding the incredibly intoxicated owl-lady.

"You never minded before," Anette grins, wraping her arms about Akihiro as he carries her to the couch, making herself comfy in his lap as they sit down. "Last time I was heartbroken, I made a man out of Pedro. Maybe I should find someone this time, make it a tradition."

"Maybe. Or you can sober up and we'll go four rounds in the shower, then you can take a nap." Akihiro makes himself comfortable as well, rubbing against Anette for a moment before he's settled in. "Though that's probably not as exciting."

"Five rounds, plus another round instead of a nap, and you have a deal," Anette says, closing her eyes as she leans against Akihiro.

"Deal." Akihiro whispers, leaning in to nip at Anette's earlobe. "If you're good I may even give you something to help you sleep."

Anette grins, leaning up to kiss Akihiro again. "Something to help me sleep? You mean now? Don't think I'll have any trouble sleeping tonight."

"Me either. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared." Akihiro leans back into the couch, lowering a hand to rub Anette's butt while they talk. "I'm afraid to ask..." Anette says, her voice softening as if sleep might be coming to her without any help, her eyes closing as she curls up against Akihiro, wings draping loosely behind her.

Akihiro doesn't say anything else, rather he reaches up and begins to run his fingers through Anette's hair. His free arm wraps around, holding her against his chest.
