School this may be, but life for Xavier's students certainly isn't all studying. Outside classes, this is a popular spot to find students in their downtime. An enormous tribute to slacking off, this room is a wealth of fun and relaxation. Comfortable armchairs, couches, and beanbags offer plentiful seating scattered throughout the room, and the cushioned windowseats by the high windows offer a cozy nook to curl up and look out on the grounds. The room is often filled with the noises of gaming -- whether it comes from the big-screen television (tall racks of DVDs beside it, if nothing can be found on the multitude of cable channels), tricked out with consoles from retro to the latest releases, or the less electronic clatter and thump of the pool table, air hockey, or foosball. For those a little more subdued in their gaming, the cabinets hold stacks and stacks of board and card games, ranging as classic as chess and go to as esoteric as Dixit, Catan, and Gloom. More days than not, there's some variety of snacks to be found on a table beside the gaming cabinet -- quite often in the form of fresh-baked desserts. Jack is still mostly new to the school, having only been here for a few days. He hasn't even started classes yet, still taking a couple placement tests. Right now he's not taking exames though. On a break from studying, Jack's decided to visit the rec room before dinner. Dressed in jeans and an Xavier School sweatshirt, Jack grins invisibly as he steps into the room. "Okay, I can remember how to get here," he chuckles. He pulls his hood down as he steps further into the room, not sure yet what he wants to do but glad he's not doing something embarrassing like getting lost in the mansion's hallways. Wearing a pair of boots with cargo pants tucked into them, Faelan completes the outfit with a big comfie hoodie over top it with SUNY spelling on it, though it's already mostly dirty from the outdoors. Scooting into the rec room, he's sipping from a bottle of water as he takes a glance about to see who's settling in for various relaxings. Scratching an eyebrow a little at a random scratch, he gives a nod to the hoodied figure as he takes up a chair, then he pays enough attention to actually note the lack of face behind the hoodie. "Another invisible student? Cool. New or just been hiding about?" He smiles warmly, though without the recognition, after all it's hard to tell one invisible person from another. The unseen smile only grows when Jack realizes he's being spoken to and sees who it is. It takes him a moment to remember the name that goes with the face but once he does, Jack chuckles. "New student," Jack replies. "Hi, Faelan. Long time no not see," he tries to joke as a greeting. Blinking, Faelan chuckles and nods. "Ah yes yes, forgive me for not recognizing you. You must have gotten your hair cut or something," he nods with a so serious face. "Glad you found the place, I hadn't known you were of a proper age or I'd have suggested it myself, sorry." Chugging back more water he lets out a sigh. "Hopefully this makes more sense why I'm more comfortable around mutants though," his smile returns at that though. "So who had brought you in?" "New haircut and I switched to contacts," Jack replies just as seriously. He laughs a moment later, shaking his head. "It's okay. I wasn't really volunteering the information. And I look older than I am," he says. "Yeah, it makes sense. And honestly, I'm starting to feel similar," he admits, rubbing the back of his neck. "Micah. He invited me to stay at the Commons for awhile and the whole thing convinced me to give school another try." "Ah yeah, musta been that," Faelan settles in and faces Jack, figuring it would be even more impolite to not look at the invisible on while talking. "And yeah, he would. He's like a super dad, between handling the Twins and Spencer and all with Jax. I hope coming here helps you, if nothing else it's a good support network to be a part of. They've saved me lotsa times, and well I hope to repay the favor some day." Readjusting the hoodie and how it sits around him, he hrms. "Did you miss much school? Our gifts kick in at a pretty crappy time to be able to get a good education." "Want to find a place to sit?" Jack asks as Faelan faces him. He figures they could talk somewhere other than standing by the door. "Yeah, he is pretty awesome. I want to try to find a way to pay him back sometime," he says. He hummed a little at the question about school and shrugged. "Kind of and kind of not. I mean I missed my friends and once boredom kicked in I missed actually having things to do during the day but there was a lot about school I didn't like. I figure that it'll be the same no matter what school I go to though." Faelan gestures to chairs for them to chat in and nods. "Yeah, it's pretty school like in the actual class rooms. There are just a few more classes being added to that, like the ethics of using our gifts, and you'll probably have someone spend some extra time with you to help you with your powers. Like I had a lot of time with Professor Wagner... Kurt, to deal with my teleporting more than my invisibility. Mainly because turning myself or other things invisible wasn't nearly as dangerous as accidentally ending up in the middle of the lake." He looks a little embarassed, but it doesn't seem like something he has a hard time speaking of. "We also have some uber eggheads who may be able to help you understand why your invisbility is stuck on. So they may have you do some therapy, which really helps. Or if it's deeper, sometimes you may have some time with Professor Xavier himself. He's helped out students who were having really great difficulties with things. Like being giant hungry dragons." Moving to a chair, Jack drops into it with a content sigh. "Yeah, they mentioned something about an advisor to me but said I haven't been assigned one yet. Still taking tests and all that," he says. "Are there any teachers around here that have invisibility issues?" he asks, a little hopeful tone there. "And hey, speaking as someone that's run into some of them...being suddenly invisible can cause all sorts of problems," he says. "Wait, therapy? Like talking to a shrink?" he asks, head tilting to the side. While Jack himself is invisible, at least the way his clothes move help give a hint about his body language. There's another pause, Jack blinking a few times. "Someone can turn into a dragon? For real?" Sitting in the chair without much concern of his dirty boots on the chair, Faelan relaxes back. "None with invisibility issues. I mean, Jax can do it, but that's by bending light. So, if that is how your invisibility works then yeah someone who controls light would be a good choice." Nodding a bit, he sighs. "Yeah I know it can cause issues. But there are a lot less of an issue, I know. Its actually easier for my to control the invisible side of things, well at least if it's on me. Making things invisible is just a good way to trip over a stack of books you were hiding from a cleaning inspection." He nods more emphatically at the shrink comment. "Yeah, we have a few who come around. Believe it or not, having an abusive, abandoned, and generally screwed up childhood kinda comes standard with being a mutant," he says with a look on his face much expecting a no shit comment to be made. "Well, I never saw it happen, but I am assured that it's true. I mean we have ones who can turn into wolves, and fly, and have wings and possess dolls. Turning into a dragon seems pretty reasonable amongst that." "Yeah, he showed me he could do it when we met," Jack shrugs. "I have no idea how it works," he says. He listens quietly and quirks a brow. "Hiding books from cleaning? What kind of books are you reading?" he asks in a playful and joking tone. The comment may be expexted but Jack stops himself from saying it when he sees Faelan's expression. He just nods a little. "Man, it kind of sounds like I got a mutation that isn't as cool as everyone else's," he remarks with a shrug. "Did you say possess dolls?" he asks after a moment. "Oh it wasn't What I was reading, it was how many stacks and the mess," Faelan said with a chuckle. "My room was terribly messy, thankfully, they could never see it. I mean, they Knew I could, but it was easier just to do the quick glance and not care." He shrugs slightly at Jack's self deprecation. "Everyone wants what someone else has. I mean, yeah my stuff sounds good, but unless you're trying to run and hide? Its not so great. But I mean, I'm working on it, really I am. There are /Way/ better teleporters than me after all. But you also have people who have it worse than you too. There was a girl who came here, who had to basically leave her body in the med bay all the time because she was radioactive. But she got around as a sorta cloud. I guess kinda like one of the professors, but he takes his body with him." He ticks off his fingers as he thinks. "And yeah, that's Lia. She's pretty nice, but kinda lives in her own little world. Like princesses and fairy tales and such." Jack laughs, shaking his head. "I get used to that again. Having to have a clean room," he says. "You read a lot too?" he asks, curious. "What sort of books are your favorites?" the invisisble teen was a bit of a reader himself. He listens quietly as Faelan talks about some of the other students, wincing a little at the mention of the radioactive cloud girl. "Oh man...that...really sounds like it sucks. Being stuck as a cloud," he murmurs. Shaking his head, Jack is quiet for a few moments. At least until Lia's name comes up. "Oh," he rubs the back of his neck and laughs. "I met her. The way she talked it sounded like she turned into dolls." "A lot of the books are things like survival books, or language stuff, or nature stuff," Faelan says with a nod. "It was pretty practical stuff for me, but I read a lot of adventure stuff too. When you're always scared, you want to read about people being brave." At the acceptance of the sucking life of others, he lets out a sigh. "Yeah, there are some pretty harsh things other people go through. I got lucky, I can pass as human at least unless I'm using my powers actively." He raises a brow at the statement of what Lia had said. "As I said, her own world. I mean, I guess it's possible, but I've seen her body around while the doll was walking around." "Sounds cool. Any you'd reccomend? I saw the library in this place and man...best one I've ever seen in a school," Jack replies. He lets out a sigh of his own a moment later. "Yeah...half the time I feel jealous about the people who can pass or got cooler powers but then I remember that it sucks for them too and I feel like a real ass and..." he trails off into a shrug. He lets it go though. "Yeah, she seemed a little...out there. It was good talking with her though. She was nice." "A couple. Do you do more fantasy or sci fi? Or like more modern stuff like those vampire books?" Faelan tilts his head, his face fading into a more professional role. "I'm still kinda the Assistant Librarian till I can find a job at college. So yeah, I've gone through the shelves a lot. If you want more classic classic books, you'd be better off asking Ms Winthrop, since well, she's an actual librarian, and all that stuff." He offers a simpathetic smile and a nod. "Nah it's fine. I mean everyone has it kinda crappy, its just some have it way worse than others. I just try not to whine nearly as much around people who do have it worse, since well, some of them can react poorly." He scratches his head a bit, but smiles about the student being nice. "There are a lot of students are pretty nice. Some are pretty distant, some can be jerks. It's like a normal high school, but people have some classes on learning that they really ought not be jerks to each other, and well we all at least have some similar experiences. So it's a little better at least, and you get to do things here nobody else gets to. Like, well we have stables here so you can learn to ride a horse if you wanted. And we have a lot of really really smart teachers who would probably have been teaching colleges or other stuff, but are here because they are Blue, or Red or burst into flames." "I'd say fantasy and sci fi books. I read a bunch of those in Newark. And mystery ones," Jack replies. "Vampire books? You mean the ones with werewolf and the crazy fangirls? Naw, definitely not my thing. I tried reading the first one and couldn't finish it," he laughes. "I'll ask her if I see her. Hopefully she doesn't mind the library being haunted occasionally," he jokes again. He hummed a little at the mention of some reacting worse. Jack tended to bottle up his reactions most of the time but he'd snapped a few times at people. "People seem nice enough so far. I mean other than this one girl I ran into out in that workshop place, everyone's been pretty welcoming," he shrugs. "I heard there's a giant dragonfly out there with the horses. Is that for real or Lia being out in her own world?" "I was thinking more the one with... actually I think almost anything with a vampire has some werewolves in it too. Well, maybe not Dracula, but that one was really different than the others. Like he could go into sunlight," Faelan thinks about that abit more. "And no, Ms Winthrop doesn't mind. Remember, I can be invisible too. Oh, a little warning, she looks kinda like a demon. I mean, she isn't one, but she looks like one if you are a little concerned by that." He smiles and nods at the people being nice here. "That was probably Kisha if it was the workshop. She's really smart, but not much of a people person. She helped me out with some hardware, and I was really only able to give her the general idea I had about it in a dream." Thinking about the stables, he chuckles. "Yeah, that's real. There had been a mutant who's capabilities allowed her to make insects super huge. Weirdly specific aint it? Like why just bugs? Course, Ivan, an alumni, he could mentally control bugs too. So it was pretty tense there." "Dracula was good. But I couldn't handle the glitter-powered vampire book," Jack laughs. He pauses for a moment at the description of Ms. Winthrop and leans back. "Well. Been called a demon myself. Can't say I'd be bothered by someone looking like one," he remarks, remembering his mother's reaction to his mutant status. He's quiet a moment before shaking it off. "I have no idea who she was. She didn't say a word to me and acting like I wasn't even there most of the time," he says, shrugging. "It's real...man...now I have to see it." "I never really got into it. It was pretty dark and all. I didn't really like Frankenstein either, soooo creepy," Faelan shudders and shakes his head. "And yeah, I've been called a monster. Pitchforks and everything," he lets out a sigh and shakes his head. "And yeah, that's probably her. Still, she's good at what she does. Had you seen B's robots? They have neat stuff out there." He chuckles at the desire to go see the dragonfly. "Shouldn't be a problem. The grounds get pretty squishy though, at least until it's frozen. And then it gets covered in snow, so it's squishy again." He gestures at his dirty boots to illustrate squishy outside. "I was in a creepy mood when I read those two. Back when I started my whole pretending to be a ghost thing," Jack laughs quietly. "Actual pitchforks? Who even has pitchforks anymore?" he asks, trying to joke to lighten the mood a little. "I only saw the one robot and these little tribble things back at the commons. They did seem pretty cool," he muses. "Does the ground need to be squishy to get the dragonfly to come out?" "Iowa middle of nowhere has them when you make their asshole bully children disapear," Faelan says without a hint of joking. "Tribble things? Huh, I dunno what quite you're talking about. But at least you saw one of the bots." He shakes his head about the ground being squishy thing. "No no no. It's the fact you have to go across the grounds to get to stables. I just wanted to make sure you knew so you could prepare for the mud." "Damn," Jack remarks, shaking his head. "S-...Lo siento," he cuts himself off and corrects quickly, trying to get used to that after his conversation with Ash. "Yeah, little fuzzy things that purred. There were a bunch of them," he replies. "Oh, thanks," he laughs. "Mud's not a big deal. I just hope I don't freak out the horses or anything." "Yeah that thing." Faelan blinks again at the tribbles comment. "Yeah, I must have missed them. I hope it's not like the Frosty or Chocolate rain incident like last time. That was some kinda dream thing and then it all disapeared afterwards." He shrugs about the mud and the freaking horses. "You wouldn't be the weirdest thing going near the horses. You don't smell like a wolf or other predator after all. And you aren't on fire either. I think they might drug the horses they're so chill with the weird stuff sometimes. Or maybe one of the teachers or students before could control animals maybe." "Frosty chocolate rain incident?" Jack asks, tilting his head to the side. "Should I even ask what that was or is it too...messed up?" he asks with a quick pause to consider his choice of words. He rubs the back of his neck as Faelan answers him about the horses. "I've just never been around real live horses before. At least not since I was really little. I'm probably dumb but I was just worried I'd cause a stampede or something." "Just about everyone had a personal animated snowman with a top hat following them around, hence Frosty. And well... it was raining chocolate. Actual legit to eat chocolate rain, not just the weird song," Faelan grins at that. "Separate incidents. There was some other weird stuff too mind you, but there ya go." Letting out a small breath he nods. "It's alright, you should be fine with them. Just hold out your hand and be calm and patient and such. A lot of it is being confident since they will know if you're not." Jack stares, jaw dropped for a moment. He's not quite sure how to react to that news but eventually he starts laughing. "Oh man, that sounds awesome," he shakes his head. "If that sort of stuff happens around here often, I'm gonna end up liking this place even more than I do already," he says. "Alright. I'll keep it in mind if I head out that way." "Just the once last year. As I said, some kinda dream stuff. But we also had a crazy dude come to the school to try and steal people for their powers," Faelan says soberly. "This place is the safest it gets, and no one was hurt. But it was still scary having someone come here to attack it." Sighing, he shrugs. "Its kinda that weird mindset, where you are safe and in danger at the same time. But still better than being out other places." Pausing, he frowns. "But yeah, sorry if I scared you any, it's better to focus on the good things here." That sober declaration chokes off Jack's amusement. He winces and looks away for a few moments. "Damn," he mutters. "Does that happen often? Attacks I mean?" he asks carefully. A sleeve gets waved after a moment. "I know that mindset. It's...sort of how things were on the streets. You could find a safe spot but it could end up unsafe in a second if someone else wanted it or the cops found you or just some drunk assholes..." he trails off, shrugging again. "It's okay. You'd only scare me if you said we get attacked by needle monsters or something like that," he tries another joke. "Not really. Its just something that we understand as a possibility. And why we don't generally say, Hello look this is a school full of mutants doing mutant things," Faelan says with hand gestures. "Needle monsters? Like the creepy one with the nails in the head? Or like a porcupine monster?" He tilts his head but shakes his head. "Either way I don't think I've seen either of them at least." "Yeah, definitely good reasons to keep the place secret. Well, hopefully it stays a not often thing," Jack lets out a breath. "The nails in the head one sounds worse. But that's good news. Got enough to worry about without needle monsters making it all freakier." "Yeah, I think right now the scariest things are nightmares and the government," Faelan says with a little sigh. "And some of the nightmares are about the government anyway. Still, for now everything is fine at least." Smiling he tries to be reassuring. "So you get to play with giant dragonflies instead." "Nightmares," Jack frowns. "Been having plenty of them," he mutters. After a moment he laughs. "That and hang out with great people like you." "Yeah, some of em are pretty bad. Some of em are pretty good dreams though aside from being in a bad time. It's like a catch twenty two," Faelan shrugs. "Eh, I'm not that great. Just experienced, I've been at the school for a loooong time." He chuckles, "I also have a passport and frequent flier miles. So not quite as good a deal for the school." Jack laughs, shaking his head. "Well, as far as I'm concerned, you're cool," he replies. "And yeah...the dreams can be like that. Giant killer robots...but also finding potential love..." he trails off with a shrug. "Just going to have to have more fun while awake to make up for bad dreams." "Or make the bad dreams go away," Faelan nods a bit more vigorously. "Still, I hope you have fun here. It's really good and safe, honestly. But, the goal here is to make you ready to go out into the world." Pointing at the SUNY on his hoodie, he nods. "Like going off to college. Or getting a job. It sucks, but the Professor's mission isn't just to hide us here after all. Its just what is necessary for now." That gets a sigh out of Jack and he slumps in his chair. "Yeah, I guess," he murmurs. "I just don't know what I even want to do out there. Or if there'll be much for a guy that doesn't look like me out there," he says, looking up. "That's part of why I wanted to come here though...to try to find out what I want to do." "Understandable. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life either. Professor Summers had me expand on my classes with extracurricular activities though," Faelan smiles at that and shakes his head. "So I went from learning about photography, and taking picture of birds and animals and nature, to going to college to study environmental sciences. I kinda want to be in the park services and all. I mean, I know how to survive in damn near any climate because of my training, and well I can escape any wild life that's problematic." He nods at that, then chuckles. "And well, I can be a hero. Help people in trouble, be brave and such. Like an adventure." Nodding as he listens, Jack smiles. "I'm sure you're gonna be one heck of an adventurous hero," he says. "Did Professor Summers help you decide on extracurriculars? There are tons of them from what I saw." Chuckling and shaking his head, Faelan grins. "I can try at least. I have a good Q at least. Very important there," he replies. "He just wanted me to pick one. He mentioned a couple different ideas and all, but mainly he wanted me to interact with people more. I was kinda afraid of people and all. Then I realized it was afraid of humans." Shrugging he continues though, "And now it's mostly just trying to get along out in a world full of people who potentally hate me, and doing my best not to solve my problems in the easy way. Just make the problems disapear." "The easy way always seems to make things harder," Jack remarks idly. "Hopefully things go as well for me as they seem to have for you." "Took a while, but things are starting to improve yeah," Faelan nods, almost as if he's just realizing it himself. "Speaking of which, I should probably get changed. I'm going to be doing some more training, and well, I have a special outfit for that." His smile gets a little bigger at that. "So I'll see you around then, and good luck with classes." "Good luck with training," Jack offers. "It was great running into you again here!" he says, starting to stand. "And thanks. I'm looking forward to them starting for me." Offering a wave, Faelan hups out of the chair and brushes it off a bit to clean it off. "Thanks, I think it will help out. But also probably will hurt a lot. So painkillers are probably in my future." He makes a face at that, and heads out the rec room door and down the hall. |
