The influx of new students this year has led to a bit of overcrowding at Xavier's, and it is starting to show in the dorm arrangements, many rooms like this one refitted for three students where they had once been built for only two. The standard two closets have been joined by a large armoire against one wall; three dressers have been moved in, three desks. A bunk bed on the left side, a lofted twin with its desk underneath it on the right. The sun having set a little over two hours ago, only darkness filters in from the woodsy view of outside. In a pair of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors pajama pants and an unbranded gray hoody, Sergio sits in the windowsill staring out. One leg is stretches over the length of the sill, while the other hangs down limply to the floor. The fledgeling telepath hasn't been exactly scarce lately, but he's certainly been hard to communicate with. Perhaps his limp, slumbering form is a more common sight than this current one. His powers have been unpredictable, making remaining conscious a great challenge and provider frustration for him. As a disembodied mind, only able to communicate through telepathic speech ...knowing ASL hasnt been all that much of an asset. This evening, it seems he has finally stirred. He flicks his big toe like a cat flicks its tail while his jawline clenches and unclenches, pensively. The sound of the door opening heralds the arrival of some floating clothes. Plain black work out pants, a school hoodie with the hood down, and a bandage floating where the back of his head should be, Jack's been scarce in the sense that its a lot easier to completely miss him when he can't speak...or write. Sure there's other languages but with most students defaulting to ASL, Jack's been hard to communicate with too. Not that he's had a lot to say. Yesterday had started out badly enough and then there was the incident in the workshop which only shook him more. When he sees that his roommate is awake, the fresh from the shower mutant walks over to his desk to take a pair of gloves out of the box he'd been given. Once he has them on, Jack frowns a moment and carefully signs 'Hey. Anything interesting out there?' Filled with rage, Sergio turns to stare through Jack. His brow is knit so intensely that the veins on his forehead form a fat 'V' shape. His expression softens, though. He watches Jack move, and watches as he produces the gloves. Wetting his lips, he doesn't leave the window. 'Angry,' he sighs, hesitating before adding, 'Really scared.' It isn't an answer to the question, he knows this. Hands flexing, Jack uses his TK to pull his desk chair out so he can sit too. His concerned look goes unseen but his shoulders slump a little. He doesn't seem bothered by the answer at all. His signs are slow and awkward but he's trying. 'Me too. Scared. A lot.' he admits. And unlike other times, he doesn't try to brush it off. 'Get called to the infirmary yet?' he signs after a moment of just staring down at his gloved hands. Sergio shakes his head, frowning. He makes the sign for 'K,' it being the first letter of his last name. They're going alphabetically. 'They're going too slow,' he signs, with sloppy, sharp gestures. Nostrils flaring, Sergio looks away and then back, 'I've wanted to-' He rolls his eyes to try and think of something to say, '-say Hi.' He motions, to simulate floating around. 'But I only know English.' His eyebrows raise in a helpless expression. Jack shifts in his seat, making a small confused noise. He signs 'R,' and gestures at himself. 'They called me early. Don't know why.'. And now he's more worried because its strange to be called out of order. He ducks his head slightly, bandage bobbing as he rubs the back of his neck. 'Might be slow cause of the attack last night', he adds after a few moments of trying to remember the signs. That helpless expression has Jack letting out a breath. He lifts his hands like he's about to sign but drops them back to his lap. Eventually he starts to reply. 'Most people don't want to talk at all. Any language. But A S L.' 'I think,' Sergio starts, bottom lip quivering. His hands remain poised mid-air for a moment as he stares over at Jack, 'Nevermind.' Gulping, the teen shifts where he sits to face the invisible boy. His chest and shoulders heave in a sigh that he releases from his nostrils. Restlessly, he shifts some more, all the while looking away and back, and away and back, again. 'Think what?' Jack signs as insistently as he can with just his hands. The way his roommate's lip was quivering and the way he's looking away have Jack more concerned than he'd already been. 'You can talk to me.' he pauses. 'You know what I mean,' is signed in a more frustrated manner. 'I'm mad,' Sergio signs, 'I'm really mad.' Even admitting this, makes his heart beat just a little bit faster. 'And trapped. I want to punch the walls, but if I move too fast...' He makes a whisp motion, signifying his floating away out of his head. He closes his eyes and buries his face in his palms. A moment later, unable to sit still, he runs his fingers through his hair and looks back up. His expression is uncharacteristically bitter. Jack looks as sympathetic as a set of floating clothes can. Getting up, he considers a moment before reaching out to place a hand on Sergio's shoulder if allowed. He hopes the gesture is supportive. 'Anything I can do to help?' he signs after a few moments. Sergio's breathing grows a bit ragged as he turns to watch Jack rise. He initially noses forward, but stop himself rather abruptly before he's gotten more than an inch or two - haulting a momentum that would have brought him much closer, much faster had he not. His eyes are pink around the edges as he shakes his head, 'No,' which he accompanies with a little inward shrug. He reaches out, and in an intimate gesture, laces his fingers into Jack's to stop them from signing. He brings the invisible teen's hand back down, and stares sadly into the gloved palm before bowing forward and pressing his forehead down into it. Jack's unseen eyes go wide when it looks like his roommate might fall but when it doesn't happen, he lets out a breath. He starts to sign something but stops, letting Sergio take his hand. His shirt shifts a bit as he tilts his head to the side. He doesn't resist, letting Sergio move him and reaching his free hand out to place back on the other teen's shoulder. Sergio lifts his head just fractionally, replacing Jack's hand at the bridge of his nose. He presses the crook of his nose, as well as his closed eyes, into the glove as if trying to escape hungrilly into it somehow - through it. His hand starts to tremble as in the same manner as before, he relieves pressure on the hand to reposition it lower if he is allowed, though the only remaining place would be his mouth. Jack makes a small, confused and concerned noise when his hand is pressed against Sergio's nose. He's careful not to poke Sergio's eyes, still not sure what's going on. When Sergio tries to reposition his hand again, Jack shakes his shoulder a little to try and get his attention. At the same time, he keeps that other hand pressed against his roommate's nose. Staring down at the gloved hand, Sergio brings it closed to his mouth. It may look like he's about to kiss it, if you're staring down from above. But with his head tilted downward, Sergio parts his lips ...and bares his teeth. Pulled back from his lull, he breathes in sharply as his body lazilly sways with what little force his applied to his shoulder. "Sor-" he starts apologize, but stops himself abruptly. It's enough to set up off. The boy rises and with a sweeping, horizontal gesture, he punches the wall with the side of his fist as hard as he can. Jack takes a moment to stare down at his hand, trembling a little himself. After last night, that's hit a little too close for his liking. He looks up after Sergio's punched the wall and forces himself to stand. Again, that glove covered hand is placed on Sergio's shoulder and Jack waits for the other teen to look his way. He starts to sign again when he does. 'It is OK. Want to go-' he pauses mid sign, shoulders slumping in frustration as he forgets the signs he wants. Eventually he shrugs. 'Video game? Or chess?' he offers, hoping for some kind of distraction. Shaking his head rapidly, Sergio backsteps out of reach. Crossing the room to the bottom bunk, he wraps his arms tightly around himself and sits. His hands find their way under his arms, as if in restraint, and he lowers, resting the side of his face onto his pillow. Sergio stares over at Jack the entire time, with a conflicting feral urgency and wet, helplessness. That is, until his lashes flutter in what would be a sure sign that he has chosen to leave his body. Gradually, his eyelids close of their own accord. Jack reaches out with his TK to make sure Sergio doesn't just fall when he leaves his body. Sighing, he lowers his roommate gently to the bed and falls back into his chair. The invisible one stays there for a moment before reaching up to run a hand through his hair but stopping when he remembers he still has the gloves on. They get glared at before Jack walks over to his desk. Pulling out a sheet of paper, he draws a crude little image of the mansion with an arrow pointing to the roof. Grabbing his ASL book and his backpack, Jack pulls his hood up and heads for the door quietly. |
