Your god won't save you!

Introduction

xxxxxMost would describe Azazel as a demon or devil. Standing 6'2", with blood red skin, his face is narrow with long pointy ears, sharp teeth, well trimmed pencil mustache and beard that match a head of black hair with gray highlights. Pitch black eyes, with yellow-orange pupils that have just a sleight glow, that seem like they could pierce the soul. His body is slender but lean, like that of a well trained athlete, except scarred from combat wounds. The most notable scar is on his face from forehead to cheek across his left eye. A snake like tail with a spade at the tip, which is needle sharp, looms about behind him.

Azazel is usually quiet and calculating, always observant of any given situation. He does not care for non-mutant especially the religious ones. It is not beneath him to taunt, tease, or test how far he can push someone about their faith, he also uses a similar tactic in combat to cause his opponent to make mistakes and leave them open to attack. While he has no fear of physical confrontation, he is smart enough to know when he is in a situation that is unfavorable and take opportunity to retreat if necessary.

Because his mind is a mess, he may be found spending his downtime searching his own thoughts in an attempt to put what pieces he can together. These shattered memories can cause breaks in his character. Sometimes he can be playful, other times sadistic and evil. Despite the fact he is aware of how times are currently, the broken and fragmented bits in his mind float around and surface occasionally, which makes him unpredictable.

History

xxxxxBorn Friday, August 13, 1915, on the small Greek island of Patmos, Azazel spent the first several years of his life viewing things no child should see. It was during the the Greek Genocide, and shortly before the end of the atrocities, he witnessed the horrific death of his parents. This traumatic event triggered the activation of his mutant gene, and set him down a dark path. He was taken to mainland Greece by surviving relatives, where his physical features began to change over the next few years. As the demonic appearance manifested, the new family called on the church for help and he was taken away.

Tied up and tortured in the name of god for the next few years, he continued to take on more and more demonic looking features, skin going a deeper red, ears elongated, eyes became black as night, teeth grew to sharp points, and his tail grew out. The more he resembled what the priests saw as evil, the harder they tried to drive it out, and the worse the torture got for him. One day he had had as much as he could take, he wanted out very badly, and then 'poof'. He was standing free of his bindings in the room, the priests retreated from the room and he looked for a way out, but the windows were barred. Before he could escape, more priests returned, intent on returning him to his bindings. Azazel would not be kept in this prison of suffering, he killed anyone that stood in his way with no remorse as he fled the building.

Everywhere he went people were afraid of him, they would avoid him and lock their doors. Some would throw things at him, even chase him off. A small group formed and began to hunt him down. Forced to steal in order to survive, always running, always on the move, he headed north eventually ending up in Germany. By this time he was almost 16, and still not in control of his teleporting ability. Unknown to Azazel, the Germans were already aware of mutants, capturing them, preforming experiments on them, and even turning some of them into weapons.

Apprehended once again, the Nazi's were much worse than the priests. They preformed horrible tests on him, before they acquired a mutant with strong telepathic abilities that could manipulate minds. Over the course of nearly 15 years his mine was programmed and reprogrammed while he was trained to be a ruthless killing machine and used in several secret missions during World War II. When the telepath learned Azazel could teleport others, the elite group of specially trained mutants up and vanished.

Through the years following several telepaths have reprogrammed his mind as he has traveled about the globe extensively. Leaving his memories shattered, incomplete and at times confusing. Azazel has no idea who he was, and it is unlikely this can ever be repaired. Further manipulation of the mind at the level that has already taken place is not possible anymore, his mind is just to broken. It is however, very easy for telepaths to enter his mind and read his thoughts, even to implant suggestions. A wise telepath will realize very quickly, that messing with his mind could cause him to enter a personality shift with unpredictable consequences. While reading his thoughts is easy, tracking his memories is very difficult, there are to many fragmented pieces, meaning it is almost impossible to tell if he is being truthful.

Magneto first became aware of Azazel while they were both in Nazi occupied Germany, though their paths never directly crossed at that time. A very smart and calculating man, Magneto gave some attention to the rumors connected with Azazel. Until, in the mid 1980's, Magneto finally had is first opportunity to recruit Azazel into the Brotherhood of Mutants. Unfortunately, at that time Azazel's mind was messed up, thinking he was the devil, tormenting various religious institutions about the globe, and he had no interest in Magneto's Brotherhood at that time. In the mid 1990's, Magneto, with the help of a powerful telepath, managed to recruit Azazel into the Brotherhood, but his mind could not be completely salvaged, and remains fragmented.

Azazel was an indirect participant in Magneto's attack on New York, but after Magneto was apprehended and the Brotherhood split up, Azazel went his own way. Hearing word that the Brotherhood had once again become active, he made his way back to New York, where he as been for the past three years. Azazel has been keeping a relatively low profile until now, helping Regan and others rebuild the Brotherhood of Mutants, looking for those with similar anti-human/pro-mutant sentiments.

Powers

Altered Physiology:

xxxxxBlood red skin, long ears, pitch black eyes with yellow-orange pupils (that glow slightly), prehensile tail with spade and needle sharp tip. The eyes provide excellent night vision, but when it is in use his eyes will glow red, which is rather obvious in the dark. Physically he is better than human in all areas, stronger, quicker, more agile, higher stamina, faster healing. The faster healing still takes time, what takes a human months to heal will take only weeks for him, this has also slowed down his aging. He does not feel pain, this is part from the physiological changes, and part from all the experiments, torture, and mind manipulation he has endured. Because he does not feel pain, if he is unaware of how bad his wounds are, then he may eventually just pass out. The inability to feel pain and to heal better than a normal human, means that the tortures he endured were much worse that what others may have been subject to.

Teleportation:

xxxxxAzazel has incredible control over this power, able to traverse distances up to 8 miles, even if he is unable to see the target location. He also deploys this ability in combat, making it difficult for an opponent to predict his moves. While he can take additional passengers with him, each passenger reduces the range by a factor of half. (Thus 3 passengers drops the range to 2 miles). Passengers who are not used to traveling with him may be choke on the fumes or become singed or even burned when passing through the pocket dimension. The pocket dimension is burning flames of sulfur and brimstone, and while the flames can be avoided, the smell can be overwhelming. Years of teleporting and his physiology have made him resistant to heat, flame, and the noxious vapors. He is not immune to heat and flame, just more resistant that a normal human. This has also left him always smelling of sulfur and brimstone, those nearby or with a strong sense of smell will pick up on the scent. When the teleport is activated there is an obvious low pitch pop of air and expulsion of red and black vapors from the pocket dimension, which dissipate quickly and leave behind a noticeable odor for a short time.

xxxxxThis power can be disrupted or even prevented from being used by concentrated electrical or magnetic fields. This includes electrical powers, magnetic powers, electric fences, power stations, emp weapons, stun/taser weapons. Especially if it is used directly on him. Stronger fields will affect a larger area for purposes of disruption. Thus he tends to avoid areas near large sources of electrical power by going around or over them.

Vulnerable to Telepathy:

xxxxxTelepaths will find it very easy to enter his mind, read his thoughts, and implant suggestions. This is due to the numerous telepaths that have already been in his head messing with his memories.
