Xavier's foyer provides a suitable introduction to the opulent mansion. Teak-paneled, wood floors immaculately polished, vaulted ceiling ribbed with dark wood boning, there is no doubt this school was built with no expense spared. The hallways branch off to the separate wings, with the grand staircase spiraling upwards to the residential dorms above. It is cool outside, but the foyer of the Xavier's School is warm. Warm enough to match the coloring of the wood, light. If it was not for the clear decadence of the surroundings, it might evoke images of a small cabin with a merry fire burning in the hearth. Considering the surroundings, however, 'cold is for peasants' might be a more accurate descriptor. For once, Iolaus is not being closely followed by a guard. In fact, his guard is nowhere to be seen, as he steps through the doors of the lobby and glances around. He is in a white lab coat hanging loosely over a dress shirt, and looks altogether quite the stereotype of a scientist, complete with a distracted look and mussy hair as he walks through the foyer, head buried in his papers. Yawning to himself, the shuffling figure of Faelan moves through the hallways into the foyer. Wearing a messenger bag that was flopped halfway open, a large grey Xavier school hoodie drapes over his frame, and the source of the shuffling whiff whiff was his distressed jeans. Walking through the foyer though, a sight was present that seemed out of place. "Um, hello sir. Were you looking for someone?," he says, though his voice wasn't very strong, nor did it carry well. Looking closer to the figure, its apparent that he was looking for something or some recognition of the person. It takes a moment after Faelan speaks before Iolaus looks up, eyes focusing on the younger man. He blinks several times, eyebrows furrowing as the gears in his head grind unpleasantly to a halt. His mouth opens, then shuts. "I'm sorry, what did you say?" he says, slowing steps down to a stop as he looks over the younger man. "I was..." he trails off, gesturing in the air in a little cloud shape. Eyes squinting, Faelan contemplates the fellow since he seems absent minded. "Are you looking for someone? Um," he says looking around the foyer as if an instructor would appear from nowhere conveniently. "Usually guests have escorts with them. Did you get lost? Or are you new staff?" Doubting anyway that any of those questions would get a yes answer, his gaze sweeps towards the various exits in case of necessity. "Oh, no, no, just going to the lab." Iolaus says, brightly. He extends a hand towards the younger man, taking a step towards him. "I'm Doctor Saavedro. I'm not on staff here, exactly, but I'm... sort-of-staff?" he says, smile cracking wider across his face. "The kind of staff you really hope you never have to meet in an official capacity. I help Doctor McCoy with the more difficult medical cases." Nodding a little at the explanation, Faelan's posture relaxes to a slightly less twitchy state. "Oh, well then you know the way to the lab then. " Pausing a moment as the thought came to him, he frowns. "Wait, did someone get hurt? I mean they wouldn't call for a doctor if there wasn't someone hurt would they?" Not recalling any texts to the effect arriving on his phone today, he hopes that the doctor's answer is in the negatory. "No, no." Iolaus says, waving his hand in the air and laughing. "No, if it was, I'd be not stopping to talk." he says, eyes twinkling. He glances down to the papers in his other hand and folds the folder shut, tucking it under one arm. "Just here to use the lab, actually. My old one is... no longer accessible to me, and I still have work to do." he explains. Watching the odd fellow's motions, Faelan listens carefully. "You don't seem to have many samples with you if you needed the lab. Or is it all digital?," he says. After all, the lab generally was meant for experimentation, but the man wasn't carrying too much. "I can call Dr. McCoy if you want though? He'll know if anyone else is using the lab for anything. Um, if you hadn't already called that is." Speaking with the boy, it was fairly easy to see that he wasn't particularly socially adept. If Iolaus notices the other man's social ineptness, it doesn't show on his face, and he doesn't comment on it. "I left my samples up there a while ago. Have the latest patient data, and now, it's back to the PCR for me." he says, eyes sparkling on his face. "A lot of genetics work is mostly digital. Not all of it, certainly! But my patient is in a hospital, and they do all the lab work there. I just have to do the experimentation on my own." "Oh, I guess when it comes to a doctor that would use our labs, genetics would be more important than chemistry." Faelan hrms a little at that, not having thought about it before. "I hope your patient recovers. Were they harmed? Or, well, something more genetically sourced?" Not exactly sure what terminology he was safe to use, he erred on the side of caution. "Mostly around the school, people just get hurt in gym class. We get a lot of concussions here." "Thankfully, my services are not needed all that frequently." Iolaus says, nodding his head once in agreement. "Here, that is. And I am quite busy with my day job, believe me!" he says, chuckling at his own joke. "My patient is very sick, but it doesn't have to do with genetics." His eyes twinkle. "Most doctors would say. I think they're wrong, and I hope to prove it and cure him at the same time." Stepping back a few steps, Faelan's face shows his concern. "Its not something contagious right? I mean I wouldn't think it would but, but if its not genetic, well." Fear was a rapid setting on the young man, but at least he thought of the problems. "I don't want to end up in a hospital waiting for a cure. Theres already enough things to worry about." Iolaus gives Faelan a look of surprise as the younger man steps back, and he raises a hand up. "No, no. Cancer is not contagious. Easy, now." he says, eyebrows furrowing slightly. "I did a specialty in infectious diseases back in medical school. If I thought anything was contagious, I would not be doing it in a building with school children. Don't worry. You're perfectly safe," he soothes, voice calm and level, as if talking down an animal. Exhaling slowly, the reassurances did calm Faelan. "Oh cancer? I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that they recover, they say cancer is one of the leading causes of death." Never having thought of it, his thoughts went to the statistics. "It's not one of the rapid ones then? I guess it would be hard to look for a cure if it was one of those." Puffing a strand of hair out of his face, he says "If anyone can figure it out I'm sure Dr. McCoy can help. He's gotta be one of the smartest people on earth." "Doctor McCoy is a brilliant scientist, to be sure." Iolaus says, as a bemused smile tugs at his lips. "An excellent researcher and physician. You are in very good hands." he says, though he does not elaborate on his patient's condition in the least. In fact, he holds the papers under his arm just a hair closer to him, angled just slightly further in. "Oh, I probably shouldn't be bothering about your patient. Confidentiality stuff and all." Faelan at least assumes that is the reason why the clutching. "Did you need an escort? I know you said you're kinda staff, but well," he gestures around the foyer. "You probably want to get to the lab so you can help out sooner than later. If Peter finds out your a scientist, he'll probably want to interrogate you, and Kisha would probably want to know about the dna sequencer." There were others he could mention, but when it came to the presence of a genius, those were the more likely culprits. Iolaus laughs at this, running a hand through his hair. "I've met both of them, actually, and I think you can imagine just how the conversations went." he says, lips quirking into a large bemused smile. "No thank you, I'm alright. Don't want to keep you - and I know the way." he says, pointing in the general direction he was heading. "Thank you for the offer, though." "It probably went smoother than Peter trying to break the robot." Shaking his head, Faelan looks to the doctor. "I'm Faelan by the way. Nice to meet you Doctor Saavedro. Um, though if you don't mind my saying, I hope I'm never one of your patients." That would be serious after all, and he wishes to never have that. "I hope you find a cure for cancer. I'm sure that your patient will appreciate it anyway." Giving the man a slight smile, he made his way off and away from the labs, the messenger bag over his shoulder disappearing as he went. "It's good to meet you, Faelan, and believe me - I understand the sentiment." Iolaus says, smile brightening. He gives the younger man a nod, a smile, and then turns to head off in the direction that he was originally moving in. He doesn't get more than another fifteen feet before he turns to glance back at the departing figure, a curious look on his face. It lasts only a moment though, before he rights himself and heads further into the depths of the building, moving towards the labs. |
