Happy Cakes Bakery is a cheery little spot of vintage charm amidst the hustle and bustle of the Manhattan neighborhood, a refurbished pair of row homes that hardly resemble their previous selves - the front walls are almost entirely gleaming glass, with the logo of the bakery painted onto the top, and rainbows of cupcakes dancing along the edges. Eclectically styled, it seems homey and welcoming - if the cross stitched sign by the door wasn't obvious enough - "All are Welcome!" it reads, with the "All" underlined in a sparkling bubble gum pink and yellow dotted line, with the logo of the bakery, a cheery smiling pink and white cupcake, beneath the lettering. Once inside, the walls of the combination bakery and coffee shop are covered in crisp clean white ceramic tile, with the occasional randomly placed tile with an color engraving of a tropical flower, or tile made of reclaimed China. Ambient music reminiscent of the Big Band era plays through the shop, loud enough to be heard, but not loud enough to make conversation difficult. Tables and chairs in a variety of sizes, colors, and styles fill one side of the room, none of them quite matching each other, but all of them seeming to work together. The other side of the shop is a long series of gleaming glass and chrome bakery displays, filled with colorful sweets and treats of every description. To one end of the counter is a gleaming chrome espresso machine with far more tubes and bobbles than is really necessary, but producing excellent espresso beverages. At the other end is the old style cash register, a chrome and cherry wood relic from a bygone age that dings cheerily with each sale. The wall behind the counter is covered in photos of a tropical island, as well as a pair of shops that look like a smaller version of this one, several including a pair of dark haired women. WHUMP. WHUMP. WHUMP. This is the sound of an approaching Tarrasque. Actually, no -- it's just Munch. A very large, very /unusual/ looking young man; greyish-black skin -- with a white sleeveless t-shirt, a black leather jacket (complete with metal studs and -- motorcycle badge! MMMC 4 LIFE), heavy denim jeans, boots, and a red bandana on his head. He's a walking bulldozer by the look of him; and most of it's actually -- well, /muscle/. Actually, he's worse than a bulldozer -- if you ran a bulldozer into him, you might actually /break/ it. He's coming into Hanna's shop, today -- pushing the door open veeeeery gently. There's something a little unusual, maybe, about seeing a big guy like Munch -- motorcycle jacket, all HARDCORE with a jaw so thick that if you stuck a stick on it you could use it to smash concrete -- almost /tiptoing/ in. Like he's suddenly concerned with shaking up the place. Creeeeeak... hello? Anyone home? Peek-peek. The chiming of the little silver bell over the door brings a bubbly woman bouncing out of the back, through gleaming double chrome doors, wearing a brilliantly yellow and pink floral halter top sundress over a lime green fluffy crinoline. Hanna is swinging her hips in time to the bubbly music of the shop, humming along as she spins about behind the counter, offering a cheery greeting, "Hello! Welcome to Happy Cakes Bakery. I'm Hanna, please, feel free to browse and ask any questions. I'm quite happy to make up some answers." She offers a cheery smile to Munch as he enters, apparently unphased by his appearance. The young woman over by the coffee machines has long green hair, pulled back into a multi strand braid, her smooth earthy toned back exposed by the cut of her long sundress; she glances over her shoulder to the young man entering, then looks to Hanna with a quirked eyebrow. Tip-toe. Tip, tip, tip. Munch is being /very/ careful with Hanna's floor. As if floors are -- sometimes a problem for him. But he's smiling -- quite cheerfully! -- in response to Hanna, holding out a hand to her to wave. Hello! Another wave toward the green-haired girl. And then he's moving toward -- one of the displays, near the counter. Oooh, cupcakes. Just /peering/ at them. Eyebrows knotting together with a slow creeeeak. Like he's debating which one to start with first. His tongue even pops out, just a little. Concentrating /hard/. A bemused smile graces Hanna's rounded face as she watches the young man carefully make his way across the crisply tiled floor, and she remains quiet for a moment while he first looks into the case. She leans against the counter, offering a kind smile to him, "If you want to know anything about the cupcakes, or want any recomendations, let me know. We've got such a selection, I know it can be a bit daunting." Her eyebrows quirk at the sound of creaking as he concentrates, but she says nothing more, letting him puzzle over the selection. And now, Munch is tapping, a fingertip making a tiny metallic *clnkt clnkt* against the glass, as if in a gesture of thought. At least that might be what it /appears/ to be, at first -- but then he's looking at Hanna with, what might be /puppy-dog/ eyes. *CLNKT, CLNKT* -- his fingertip is tapping at the glass in front of a strawberry flavored one. And looking back at her. And then -- the finger retracts, before lifting up to tap his mouth. Like, I WANT THAT. HERE. Then? His other hand is fishing into his jeans for a wallet. Hanna smiles, reaching into the case with a waxed paper in her hand to pick up the indicated cupcake, "Ok, you would like that one? For here or to go?" She pulls the cupcake out, pausing for an answer before she puts it into a box or on a sturdy China plate. "If you would like some sort of beverage, we have coffee, tea, and other similar things. Quite popular is the chocolate mint frappe - it's nice for warm days," Hanna smiles, gesturing towards the coffee bar where Jayna is standing, "Jayna can help you with the coffee or whatever you would like. If you'd like, I can bring your cupcake to your table?" At Hanna's question -- here or to go -- Munch /points/ a finger down at the counter. As if to say, 'RIGHT HERE'. And then, as she sets it on a fine china plate -- /down/ come the paper-bills to pay for said cupcake! And /down/, then, comes Murphy's hand -- reaching to seize said cupcake. And lift it up. And -- RRROWRMP. Right here. HUGE bite. Half of it gone in an instant. Chew, chew, chew. RRRROWRMP. Another HUGE bite. Rest of it? Gone in an instant. Chew, chew, chew. After a few moments, Munch swallows -- and gives Hanna a BIG thumbs up. Along with -- a very happy grin! And then, he opens his mouth and speaks: "Do you sell 'em by the dozen?" When Munch speaks, it probably offers an immediate explanation for his silence -- his voice has a deep, /metallic/ rumble to it. It's almost Darth Vaderish; it has a way of making everything around him /shake/. Counters, dishes, glass, maybe even bodies. It's the sort of voice you can feel in your /bones/. There's a little bit of a startled look from Hanna, at the sound of Munch's voice, her eyes flashing for a brief moment to a startled amber color, before fading nearly immediately to their normal golden brown. "Well, I'm quite glad you enjoyed it so heartily, sir. We do have take home boxes for multiples - six, twelve, and a full twenty four party pack, if you're interested. If you get a dozen, you get an extra to make it a bakers dozen, no extra charge," Hanna explains with a cheery smile, apparently recovering pretty quickly from hearing him speak. Munch nods! Rather emphatically. And then starts gesturing toward the cupcakes with one hand. Maybe a little excitedly, although he's not physically making any fast moves -- there's something guarded about him, like he expects Hanna to BOLT OFF at any moment on account of, well. Voice. And size. And maybe METAL. "Random flavors. Twelve? Please," he adds, with a big, pleasant grin. "For /friends/." And then -- with his wallet still on the table -- he's reaching for one of the metal studs on his jacket. YANKING it off. And... huh. He's rubbing it with his thumb. And as he does so, the stud is starting to /flatten/, squeezed down and molded like it was clay... Hanna is standing quite strong, bouncing about behind the counter with a swinging gate, her curving hips swishing to the music, "Alrighty. 12 random cupcakes for you and your friends, sir." She grabs a large box, subdivided into little compartments to keep the cupcakes from bouncing into each other, and starts filling it with a ranbow of cupcakes - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, blueberry, and a host of other colors and flavors, each with some little swirl or decoration of icing on top, some with berries. Soon, the box is filled with a glorious rainbow of flavors and colors. "Here you go. A dozen cupcakes, and," she pulls one extra cupcake, a cheery little vanilla and cherry number, with a chocolate covered cherry nestled in the icing on top, "One for the road, on the house." Hanna smiles, inclinging her head curiously at the quickly flatening button in the man's hands, "Ah, impressive skill there, sir." Munch is /up/ to something, apparently! As Hanna goes about the process of slinging together cupcakes for Munch's compatriots, MUNCH is intent on that little block of metal -- shaping, rolling, /stretching/ it out until it's flat and thin as paper -- he's soon very carefully pinching the edges. Really, what he's doing is more than just treating it like clay; no clay-sculpter could make edges this sharp and precise without aid of tools -- indeed, when he's done, what he's holding is now -- a sheet of wafer-thin metal in the shape of a /business/ card. And then, as he sets it down on the table in front of Hanna... his fingernail descends atop of it. Tap, tap, tap. Somehow diveting -- /numbers/ into it. Letters! Oh, it /is/ a business card! A little metal business card! Said metal business card has, on it: 'MUTANT MONGRELS MOTORCYCLE CLUB'. With -- a menacing, fanged skull with skeletal wings and fire behind it. Apparently, their logo? Beneath it is a phone number. Munch pays with a few more of those helpful paper bills, reaching for the box of cupcakes with a big, happy-grin. Eyeing the extra one eagerly. Looking up to Hanna, nodding with thanks! Then, as he hoists up the box with no trouble at all, he adds, in that metallic rumble: "Heard place is mutie-friendly. Anyone give you trouble for that." There is. Maybe a /head-bob/ toward card. Followed by... Munch's fist clenching. It makes an unusual, /frightful/ creaking noise. Like his fingers were, in fact, /made/ of metal. He suddenly grins. "Thank you. You and your friend are very pretty!" And then he's turning -- to carry his payload of CUPCAKES off. Blinking in surprise at the card, Hanna smiles as she accepts it, "Oh that is quite impressive." Careful of the potentially sharp edges, she sets the card near the phone, "This place is indeed welcoming to all, so whenever you or your friends need another fix of cupcakes, feel free to stop in." The bubbly Island woman offers a cheery grin, "And I will keep the offer in mind, if anyone gives me or my guests trouble about our inclusiveness." As the metalic man heads for the door, she blushes at the compliment, as does Jayna, chuckling quietly and waving, "Enjoy the cupcakes in good health sir. We hope to see you again!" |
