Xuby

Introduction xxxxxHaving an excitable, quirky personality, this telepath resembles a large, bipedal ant at the height of 5'1". As she was home-schooled from manifestation at twelve to the age of seventeen, Xuby is thrilled to attend the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. No secondary sex characteristics identify the mutant as female and Xuby's gender identity fluctuates between non-binary and female. Despite her outwards appearance, the greatest difficulty the student faces comes in the form of social interaction and her communication skills are currently in need of improvement. History xxxxxMost people assigned female at birth develop breasts and defined hips upon hitting puberty. However, at the age of twelve, Xuby began to sprout chitin from her skin. When it became clear this was the direction her child's life was headed, Laura Tennant took Xuby to a doctor specializing in mutants in order to give them the best care she could afford. Fearing the reactions of students and parents, she pulled her child from middle school and started teaching them herself. Over time, Xuby began to lose her ability to talk due to her physical manifestation. Fortunately, the parent-child bond was strong enough that they managed to eke out an education and a life for her for about five months until she developed low-key telepathy at fifteen. When Xuby was sixteen, Laura met Fred Barrett, a now-single father who had helped teach his sons through high school, at a home-schooling conference and the two soon entered into a relationship. To Xuby's great joy, Fred was more than accepting of his potential step-child. When all settled down after their unremarkable wedding at the local courthouse, Laura and Fred decided to send Xuby to a specialized tutor in New York City in order to help her learn more about how to deal better with her mutation. While initially reluctant to leave her home in Buffalo, the seventeen year-old quickly became more accepting of the proposal. Powers xxxxxPhysical Manifestation: Xuby uses her two antennae to hear, taste, smell, and detect temperature changes. They have additionally heightened her olfactory sense above those of the typical human. The three simple eyes one her forehead are capable of detecting changes in light polarization and assist in navigation, along with her antennae, so that she can easily backtrack along her most recent route. The wings on her back are capable of lifting her body off the ground although she has been very nervous to try this out and does not yet know how to fly properly. Xuby can spray formic acid from her behind. It comes out a different hole than other things, though, to be sure. She sometimes dilutes it for anti-septic purposes. Undiluted, it can be used to caused skin irritation. She also has a larger heart, necessary to pump blood throughout her larger form. She does not have the tubular heart that ants have, but her blood is clear. xxxxxInsect Telepathy: Xuby has a low level of telepathy. It's great for communicating with bugs and insects, whose minds she can read and interact with. They don't always do her bidding, but sometimes they agree to help her out. Skills xxxxxGrowing up with a single, working parent who preferred night shifts in order to teach her daughter during the day, Xuby has conducted her fair share of cooking ... experimentation. When one such as her is given free reign in a kitchen as a teenager, the results could end up being less than appetizing. Certainly to a more mature adult figure. Still, who couldn't go for chocolate syrup on a bagel or pears doused in Tabasco sauce? xxxxxDespite her mother's best efforts, Xuby ended up spending a lot of time alone as a teenager. Although her eyesight is poor, she does enjoy watching television and films and reading books. What's even more fun is acting them out. Xuby likes to think of herself as having a knack for acting even when a silent lead may prove difficult for most audiences to understand. Connections Trivia Xuby's segmented eyes result in good depth-perception but low resolution. She enjoys poetry and experimenting with poetic form in order to express herself. Due to her physical mutations, her ability to form facial expressions is non-existent and her body language may be difficult to read for most people. Certainly not in a high enough concentration to cause any damage, but it may result in at least a little irritation. Winged - Xuby's wings are capable of lifting her body off the ground. Lo-Def - Xuby's eyes have low resolution. This makes far-away objects quite blurry. Her near-sightedness is not as clear as the typical human's. Finding something to help her vision has been a struggle. Ant Whisperer - Xuby can use her telepathy to interact with bugs and insects. Fright-Inducing - Not everyone deals well with the sight of insects, let alone giant, bipedal ones. Xuby's appearance is known to cause adverse reactions from a good deal of the general populace and mutant-kind as well. Her mandibles do not do much to help this perception.
