Trib and Cage are on the case! (Par of Perfectus TP.)

Location

<NYC> Heroes for Hire - Midtown East

The front room of the Heroes for Hire office has the secretary's desk, a small filing cabinet, a computer, and a ceiling fan. Janice, the aforementioned secretary is a sixty-something woman who's accent clearly marks her as being from Eastern European descent, though probably one generation removed judging by how well she speaks English. Janice was almost certainly selected by some busy-body lawyer on Luke's behalf, probably to keep him free of any more accidental law suits. The paint is faded, but everything pretty much works. Off to one side is the bathroom, and the other door leads back to Luke's office.

There's isn't much in Luke's actual office but a small desk and a swivel chair pushed into one corner, with a pair of straight backed chairs on the other side of it. A couch is by the window that looks out over the city, with Times Square in the distance. All things considered, its actually a pretty decent little spot.

The nature of Trib's employment with Heroes for Hire is such that he /has/ no set schedule. Generally, he waits for Cage to summon him with a job, and then he appears. So when his shadow falls across the glass of the front door /this/ fine Tuesday morning, it's probably going to be something of a surprise to those inside. Just as surprising -- the box of fresh-smelling pastries that he carries in one arm. Dressed in his usual jeans/henley (this one in a burnt orange color that's no way spring-like) combo, the boxer offers a grunted hello to Janice as he stops at her desk, opening the box and allowing her to extract two bear claws that may have been purchased specifically for her. Once she's claimed her prizes, he moves on into Cage's office, regardless of what the man might actually be /doing/. "Boss. We got to talk." There's actually something like /urgency/ in his voice. "'s important."

Cage clears his throat and shuffles things around when he hears Janice greet Trib. In his office he's wearing part of a gray suit with no jacket. He has a yellow collared shirt, a trim gray vest, and gray slacks when he stands, smiling to greet his friend. Mostly he just seemed happy to see the young man, but Trib's tone quickly changes his expression. "Yeah brother, come on in." He eyes the box briefly, and then nods at the coffee maker nearby. "You want a coffee? What's on your mind?"

"I got someone wants to hire us," Trib says, furrowing his brow as he moves to set the box down next to the coffeemaker. When he does, he comes back with a mania envelope in his hands. It's not very thick, but he hands it over to Cage before claiming a mug and pouring himself a cup of joe. "A friend of mine. Friend of /his/ got snatched off the street, and he wants us to see if we can find him." He rolls his shoulder, and reaches for the sugar to add a generous portion to his coffee. "I mean, I plan on lookin' into it no matter, but he specifically said he wanted to hire us."

Inside the envelope is a single sheet of paper, sketching out the known details about the kidnapping, and offering a cash payment. "I told him we was non-profit," Trib says, stepping up and looking over Cage's shoulder. "He said he might could work out doin' some kind of donation, if we could help."

"Yeah, that's basically how it has to work now," Cage says on the topic of getting paid. "We can follow up on the case, but we can't solicit any kind of money, or promises. If he donates, he donates." Luke lists the particulars more it seems to remind himself rather than trying to lecture Trib. He smiles and shrugs opening the envelope and scanning the contents. "What's your friend's name?" he asks idly, still scanning the letter.

"Contact info's at the bottom," Trib says, pointing over Cage's shoulder to the name: Josiah Brink, followed by a phone number. "He's real worried about his friend, an' I got to say I don't blame him. Guy seemed nice, when I met him, for bein' recently blown up. Josiah says it was fuckin' mutants that took him." Trib sounds a bit exasperated at the idea that the minority species is turning on its own. "I went down to the Lower East Side an' had a look around, but I ain't no real detective. I couldn't figure out shit."

Luke squints down at the page and nods. "Oh right, I see it now," he says. "Nice or not, no one deserves getting nabbed off the street. I've been hearing rumors about mutants going missing for a while now, but nothing this solid. I'll follow up on it today. You wanna come with?" He snags a chocolate old-fashioned out of the donut box and takes a bite before picking up the huge coffee mug on his desk.

"Fuckin' right," Trib says, moving to sit on the couch heavily. "Like I was tellin' Josiah last night, that shit /sucks/. You can fuckin' believe /that/ shit." He nods at the invitation, sipping at his coffee before he speaks. "Fuck yes, I want to come," he says. "I want to fuckin' find this guy, an' the people who took him. /'Specially/ if they're takin' other mutants, too. That ain't in no way good."

"Good, yeah," Luke says, his expression hardening. "Gimme one sec," he says, turning back to his desk. He punches up an outside line and starts to undress while it's ringing. He drapes the pieces of his suit over different parts of his coat rack, and when the phone picks up, it's a police detective's voicemail. Luke leaves the woman a brief voicemail explaining that he has a lead on a kidnapping and is following up on it per his PI's license, and informing the police as is his responsibility. By the time the call is done, he's wearing jeans and a black t-shirt, pulling on his biker boots. "Let's go. I'll drive."
