Xavier's librarian might hope the library is a quiet place to sit and study, but with a school full of teenagers that is not always the case. Nevertheless, it is certainly a treasure trove of knowledge, well-stocked with a wealth of books on its high shelves. Its reference section is vast, though its fiction is as well (much to the delight of many of its students.) The wide octagonal tables and smaller armchairs are often crowded with students, though the whispered conversations that often take place leave some doubt as to how much work is getting done at any given hour. Admist the stacks of books and otherwise, there was a glow. More than the glow coming from the midday sun through the windows, this particular glow was rainbowtastic - like a diamond, perhaps, catching the sun. Those who would look into this particular aisle - the one that housed mathematics books, would spot the source of said glow - Karolina Dean. Dressed with a pair of fingerless gloves, a t-shirt, and jeans with flared cuffs, (not to mention a pair of comfortable sneakers), Karolina was wearing her hair down at the moment, kept out of her face with a simple barrette. And she was standing on her tiptoes, easing a high school algebra book from one of the higher shelves, sticking her tongue out of the corner of her mouth as she stretches. Rasa slips in with hir cheeks bulging, the last of hir lunch being hurriedly chewed and swallowed as ze wipes hir hands off on the denim skirt wrapped around hir waist, nothing but a small spring of crumbs fall away. Hir top is marbled blue, green, and orange, translucent and long sleeved, billowy over a white tank top underneath. Feet strapped in flip flops and a bag over one shoulder, the (currently) yellow toned metamorph makes hir way through the rows of tables, finding a place to put hir bag so that ze can study during hir free period. Ze glances up when ze notices the difference in the light, hir head tilting so that honey colored hair spills over one shoulder unevenly. Curiosity drives hir around the corner, leaving hir bag behind to seek out the glowy individual. Hir mouth opens to say something, but refrains when ze doesn't recognize the other student. So, ze just peeks for a moment, quietly. Standing on her tiptoes was to no avail - Karolina pauses a moment, sitting back on her heels - bending her knees at first, she jumps up into the air, fluttering her feet back and forth as if trying to swim in the air - and, perhaps oddly enough, she does not fall, hovering there long enough for her to pluck up the book, before she ~slowly~ drifts back down onto her feet, lowering her head to glance over the cover. With a smile of triumph, Karolina's smile suddenly falls, and she glances up towards Rasa's position. Whether or not Karolina missed actually seeing Rasa's face, she would call out (keeping her voice down because library), "Hello?" "Oh, Sorry. Saw the light and thought it was perhaps Mr. Holland," Rasa beings, stepping out to make hirself more visible. A thick cord hangs from hir waist in the back to the shelf ze was leaning against, almost gripping it as hir hands push away. As ze comes around, that tail begins to fumble against the spines of the books it passes, as if trying to read the lettering and find one in particular. It eventually curls in between the books and the shelf, fiddling with a divider as Rasa clasps hir hands behind hir back. "I'm Rasa. I didn't mean to be nosy, but my conversation with him was cut a little short this morning and I was just going to make sure I wasn't too rude." Karolina flips the algebra book in her arms, kinda clutching it against her side. Here at Xavier's, Karolina tended to always wear a smile - and right now was no exception, her smile growing wide and toothy as Rasa comes about. "Hello there, Rasa! And do you mean, um... Jackson?" asks Karolina, tilting her head a little bit to the side. Flickering her eyes down and to the side, though, to follow the path of the tail, she bites her lower lip, flicking her eyes back to Rasa's own features. "S-sorry, I don't mean to stare," she says, the colors around her features starting to waver more towards the reds - she was covered with a rainbow collection of colors, by the way, the colors chaotic and washing over her and her clothing as if her skin color itself was prismatic. "Heaven knows I've been stared at enough - I... oh! I'm Karolina Dean," she says, giving Rasa a wide smile and stepping forward, offering her a hand, "From California - it's nice to meet you. But yeah - I hope to meet with him as well. He doesn't really strike me as the kinda guy that gets offended easy, though." "Jackson? No, he doesn't get offended easily. He's pretty nice, all things considered." Rasa gives a little smile, eye watching the other girl as she starts to blush. "And don't worry about it. There's a certain amount of staring that goes on in a school like this - for new students anyway. You get used to it. A lot of us come from places where we are the only ones, and it's not like you can really see yourself, out and about interacting, so it's all weird and new and different." Ze leans a shoulder against a shelf and considers lightly. "If you want to meet him, I can take you to him. It shouldn't be that hard to find him right now. He does teach classes." "You wanna go meet him together?" asks Karolina of Rasa, the smile dimming from the toothy one to something more gentle. "Thanks, regardless," she says, bringing up a hand to brush a wayward strand of hair out of her eyes, breathing out a heady sigh. "You're really very generous and gracious, so... yes," she says with a little laugh. A pause, then, and she takes a step towards the other, pausing a few steps away from Rasa. "I'm actually hoping to ask him to be my mentor, or my guardian - if only because we are both vegan, and he has an endless supply of Luna bars, it seems," she says, grinning wryly. "And get set up in classes; I think I'm going to go nuts, staying at this mansion all day, as amazing a place as this is." "Yeah, it often depends on when you start, if you get stuck with a long time before classes begin or not. I was only a few days late for the winter term, so I started pretty much immediately." Rasa considers Karolina for a moment, hir brows climbing hir forehead when the other student begins to describe hir in glowing terms. "Ah. Well, I kind of help out with new students. Something I do for the professor. Give tours, help arrange stuff... help them find food. You know. Ambassador things. But Yeah. He will likely agree to be your mentor no problem, but guardian? He has three kids already and he's only a couple years older than us. I mean, you're welcome to ask, but you might want to see if you get along with the twins before jumping into a family thing. I... have just... left my guardianship with the school in general. My mentor is Logan. You can call him Professor Logan, but I'm never sure if he likes it, or if that's even his last name." Karolina lifts a hand up, waving it back and forth, "No, not guardian," she says, a heady sigh leaving her lips. "Not in that sense, I guess. I was thinking more... you know, school terms, I just wasn't sure what the right word was," says Karolina. She pauses a moment, running her tongue over her lips. "And I know I don't... really get along with the twins, so I wouldn't ask Jackson for something like that, regardless," she says, falling a little quiet. "Uhm. Just mentor," she says, clarifying herself, her eyes going up and away from Rasa, a long pause leaving her. "Can I start over?" she says with a nervous little laugh, more of those reds and yellows touching the colors of her face. "Ambassador? That must be sorta fun - what do you like most about being that - well, if you like it at all," she says. But she listens to Rasa carefully, nodding her head slowly. "Logan? What sort of person is he?" asks Karolina, her eyes returning towards Rasa. "Logan's gruff, kind of distant, prefers to sit out on the back porch and smoke a cigar, or be the tar out of a punching bag. He goes at it with Ms. Walters when she's around, and they kind of almost wreck the gym from time to time, but that's how it goes when you have two teachers with super strength who need to practice." Rasa's tail releases its hold on the book case and hovers behind hir, twitching right and left in a slow wag. Ze gives a little shrug and nods to Karolina. "Sure, start over. Mentors are pretty interchangeable with advisors. Being an ambassador is nice, because you get to meet people. It's for those of us who remember what it's like to have a rough beginning and want to help others have a smoother transition, if we can. It can also be tough, because we tell our own stories a lot to strangers, and it's not always fun to be ... upfront about some of that stuff. But, still, important. And the twins? Acquired taste. You'll see. Stick with Sebastian to start. He's generally the more colorful one, swishy skirts and sparkles, excellent with the books. Shane has a tendency to be gruff and guarded, but he's a good friend when you get past that. Anyone else you curious about?" Karolina's pocket beeps - a cell phone, by the sound of it. Karolina glances down a moment, but turns her eyes back up to Rasa, ignoring the phone for the moment. "He sounds very interesting," says Karolina of Logan, inclining her head. "Why did you choose him as... advisor - /that's/ the word I'm looking for," she says, snapping her fingers, and pointing at Rasa a bit, a little smile dancing on her lips. There was a beat, and Karolina's smile falls a bit into something more serious when the conversation turns to stories. "Yeah," she says, her smile kinda going a bit lopsided. "If it would help to tell your story, you can, but... I'm perfectly fine with just getting to know everyone without making them too uncomfortable," says Karolina, nodding her head to Rasa with that. "Well, I met Shane - I... well... I saw glimmers of niceness in him, but frankly, he was fairly intimidating," says Karolina with a sigh. Karolina's pocket beeps again, and she doesn't quite glance down. "I'll try to get over that, though," she says. "I... kinda forgot about my friend. I'm going to study with her in one of the study rooms. That's probably her texting me now," says Karolina. "I'd still like your help catching Jax, though, later, if that's alright, though?" "Okay!" Rasa replies, not taking up too much of Karolina's time. "I'll see you around then." Ze leans hir entire backside against the shelf now, giving her room to pass if she needs it. "And don't wait on me to meet Jax. The office can tell you where he is too. Have a nice day!" |
