<XS> Lake

Bright, bright, bright; the lake glitters wide and expansive here, stretching off into the distance. Sunlight, moonlight, starlight, it catches them all. Lapping at the rocky shore, its deep waters are frigid in winter and cool even in summer. A stone pier stretches out a ways into the water, wide and smooth, though often icy in winter.

The water teems with life nevertheless, home to myriad species of fish that provide for ample fishing or just lazy watching on a slow summer day, for those who want to take a boat from the boathouse out to the center of the lake, or perhaps lounge on the pier and try their luck.

It's a quiet afternoon and just after dinner during the first week of resumed classes. Between the chill and excitement of getting back into the regular groove, most are inside the school. However, Liv is currently out by the lake, sitting on the end of the pier. Beside her are a pile of collected rocks which she periodically picks at, tossing a rock into the water. Occasionally one will skip but she seems content to just throw them in and watching the water ripple. Normally this would not be an odd sight except for the vacant expression on her face and, for anyone who knows her, the distinct lack of green hair. Somehow, it's turned a mousy brown, with streaks off moss green appearing depending on the light.

A strange sight in the form of one of the thrown rocks freezing in mid air over the water might get attention. And if Liv looks around, he'll find the source of this oddness. A pair of floating jeans and a school hoodie with a backpack hanging off one shoulder. Jack's been scarce lately, one or two people suspecting he might have even run off with the Morlocks. He didn't, not that he wasn't tempted. "Hey," Jack greets quietly, launching the rock across the surface of the water like a bullet as he approaches where Liv is sitting.

Liv does pause mid throw as one of her rocks is frozen in suspended animation above the lake. She quickly looks around for the source, eyes finally catching sight of the floating clothes and relaxes a bit. "Hey," she says, dropping the rock she had been holding back into the pile and leaning back against her arms. "Nice being able to talk again."

Dropping down onto the pier, Jack gives a little mirthless laugh. His shoulders slump as he looks over the water. "You have no idea how nice that is..."

Liv lets out a faint laugh at Jack's comment. "I suppose it must have gotten annoying to wear gloves constantly." She picks her rock back up and tosses it into the water, waiting for the ripples to dissappear before adding. "I'm kinda afraid to go back inside. Too many plants, I've been killing them all lately."

Jack scoops up a rock as well, just holding it for the moment. Of course it ends up looking like its floating at the end of an empty sleeve. "More to it than just gloves," he murmurs quietly. He doesn't elaborate though, instead launching the rock. Judging by the lack of throwing motion, he used his TK. There's a concerned tilt of his head though. "What's wrong?"

"My first real boyfriend dies, turns into a zombie, and tries to eat me," Liv says, leaning forward and resting her arms on her knees. "It just hasn't been easy to shake. I dunno." She sighs and looks down towards the water, watching Jack's ripples. "Not that I should sit here complaining. He was your friend and roommate, too. I suppose it hasn't been easy for you either."

"I meant...was there something else wrong...with your powers or something..." Jack trails off, looking down. "One of the best friends I've ever had. Really close," he replies after a few moments. "Thought...I thought when that girl said he was floating around...he could take his body back over."

"Oh..." Liv says, her voice fading. "No, not really. I mean...my powers are kinda tied to my emotions. If I'm sick or...depressed, they kinda go on the fritz." She points to her brown hair as the most obvious indication. "Nothing serious really, just annoying. Well, I mean, I could definitely kill plants. But it won't last forever." She nods along as Jack praises Sergio. "Yeah, he was awesome. And that's the hard part though. If he just...if he just died, that would be one thing. But if he's really floating around...I mean, for all we know, he could be here right now. It's like he's gone but he's not. At least...I don't know if he is. I keep expecting to hear him."

"If he were floating around here and didn't try to contact us, I'd find a way to kick his ghost-butt," Jack replies firmly, firing another rock across the lake. "I keep expecting to hear him too," he murmurs. "Still...every morning I end up reaching for his chair to wheel it over for him so he doesn't have to go far and," he just shrugs, letting out a sigh.

Liv smiles faintly at Jack's admission. "That's...actually really sweet." She picks another rock and more or less chucks it across the lake as far as she can. "I think I'd join you for that butt-kicking, though. Still, gotta wonder where he ended up."

Jack gives another quiet little laugh when his admission is called sweet but he doesn't comment further. "I wonder too. We'd...need a telepath to go find him though."

"That's not a bad idea actually. I mean, the only telepath I knew of was him. And the girl. And the Professor, of course, though I think he's probably got more important things to deal with." Liv gives a sigh and rises, leaving the rest of the rocks in a pile on the pier. "It doesn't matter. He's gone. I think...I'm going to head to bed. Take care."
