Toma and Nicoleta

In Absentia

Location

<NYC> Clinton

Despite its rough and tumble reputation of old, Clinton has come far from the illegal gambling and shakedowns of Prohibition, and the gang warfare of West Side Story. Clinton has now become the industrial supply center for midtown Manhattan, with hospitals and the light industrial and commercial businesses required to support so many thousands of people. The neighborhood has become quite expensive, but many actors still cram together in small apartments due to its proximity to Broadway.

This morning, it's a bit cloudy, ground damp from rain showers the previous day. It's still very early in the morning, not many people outside at all. The Lupeis themselves are one of a rare few in the Clinton neighborhood, about half a block from their apartment. Nicoleta is prattling to Toma about something in Romanian, Toma kind of annoyed about something as they walk to their apartment. Probably because Nicoleta just bought drugs, a bit of cocaine in her pockets.

There's a van parked in front of the Lupei's apartment, a dark blue cargo van, kind of inconspicuous among the plethora of New York city traffic. Just sort of sitting, bland and boring. Or at least it /was/ just sort of sitting, bland and boring, but as the Lupei's approach its side door is opening and there's a woman getting out of it. Short, tan skin, dark hair, plump; she looks sort of cheerful for the neighborhood in a flowery dress with a pale spring-green sweater over top. There's a pair of scars running down her face, though, that -- actually make her fit in /more/ around this neighborhood, running down her pleasant face scratched against her eye.

Behind her another man is getting out, too. Thinner, gaunter, a little sallow-looking through his narrow stubbly face; there's a slight limp to his walk as he gets out of the van, and he leans against the woman, perhaps for balance. "Hey," he asks this with a jerk of his chin upward to Nicoleta in a small nod, slipping a cigarette between his thin lips, "you gotta light?"

As the van comes down and two people jump out, Toma's looking nervous. This..isn't the safest neighborhood, after all. But it's cheap, that's why they moved here. Nicoleta, on the other hand, is reaching into her pocket at the guy's request, making a comment. "Shit, dude, you don't look alright. Here.". She's pulling out a cheap zippo lighter, reaching to hand it to him. "It's kind of a shitty kind of morning, isn't it? Last night was hell with all the fucking rain.". Toma is just kind of anxious, waiting for Nicoleta to be done with what she is doing so they can go home. And is also a few feet behind her.

The man flicks the lighter open, head tipping down to pull in a long slow drag off the cigarette. He looks deeply pleased, inhaling a slow breath and blowing the stream of smoke off towards the sky. "Fuck, thank you. I'm alright. Tired as hell. Long-ass night. Needed that."

"Long night," the woman is agreeing, with a small shake of her head. And a small smile -- there's water moving out of the van in ropes, thick tendrils of it twining up and around her arms. "I like the rain, though. Kind of leaves everything /cleaner/ afterwards."

"Hah," the man replies, shaking his head slowly, though his smile's eased up at the woman's clearly mutant trick with the water. "In /New York/? Nothing around here's /ever/ clean, you'd need to bathe the city in /acid/ and there'd still be a layer of grime afterwards. -- Hey, thanks for the light. Sometimes you just need it, yeah?" There's a small wince on his face as he shuts the flame off, holding the lighter out towards Nicoleta on a palm.

As the guy hands the lighter back, Toma is already beginning to slowly walk back towards their apartment. Nicoleta, meanwhile, is grinning as she reaches to take it. "Fuck yeah. City's a shithole sometimes. Needs to be flushed or something. You're welcome.". Nicoleta is then reaching to grasp the lantern in the guy's hand, as Toma shouts over to her. "Come on, Nico."

There's an odd inky blackness creeping up the man's arm, up his neck, over his face, as Nicoleta reaches for the lighter. It's hard and obsidian-rocky, and through strange cracks in the man's suddenly rock-hard skin there's a strange glowing orange-red like lava. His now-black fingers reach up to close around Nicoleta's hand when she takes the lighter -- his rocky-hard hand is blistering-burning hot to the touch, and he yanks at her with a surprising amount of strength giving his thin frame.

The woman, meanwhile, is whipping out one of those water-ropes, sending a long strand thudding heavily for Toma's chest. "Does, often, need flushing," she's agreeing with Nicoleta. Almost pleasantly.

As the man grabs Nicoleta, she's trying to struggle, smashing at him with her (not a lot of) weight. "Get the fuck..off me, you freak!". She's calling over to Toma, a sort of growl, as it seems Nicoleta isn't likely to win this. "Toma, get the /fuck/ out of here. NOW.".

Toma is already reaching for a blood vial as he spots the blackness, and is pulling it out of his jacket when the water-rope flies out, smashing into the vial and knocking Toma back off his feet. As the blood shatters, it begins to fall..before stopping, And reforming itself into tiny blood spears, pointed for the woman's face. "You..let us go..or I'll..kill you.". The blood spears are hardening, as Toma is slowly lifting himself up, attempting to step away and hoping Nicoleta gets a chance to escape as well.

The man, in volcano-rock form, has a good deal more weight than his initial thin form would suggest. He does rock back when he's smashed at, but he doesn't let go. His burning-rock hand grips tight, searing at Nicoleta's skin where it touches, and he is dragging her back with him towards the open side door of the van. His other arm curls around her ribs, just as burning-hot, felt even through layers of clothing. "We just need the one." His voice is gravelly-grating, now, far changed from what it had been before as he calls out to his companion. "Get in."

The woman lashes out with one of the water tentacles; it smashes hard up against the tiny spears in the air, circling back like a whip to thud into Toma's side. But she's turning at the sound of her companion's voice, backing up with her eyes narrowed on Toma. There's clearly /someone/ in the driver's seat already, because the van is turning on with a rumbling purr of engine.

Nicoleta is screaming in pain, but doesn't speak, her resistance quickly stopping as it proves futile, easily dragged into the van.

Toma is falling to the ground with the thud to his side, attempting to reach into his jacket for a spare vial, if he even has one. "No..no..fuck you..fuck you..who the fuck are you?".

Toma, unsurprisingly, doesn't get an answer. Just another THUD, this time of club-heavy water-bludgeon right in the face; it might possibly be enough of a blow to knock the man out. Or break his nose. Then the water is yanking back into the huge jugs it came from and the van is pulling away as inside, something very /sharp/ and a little burny is pressing into Nico's vein and the world is -- actually getting a little bit more /pleasant/ just before the drugs pull her into unconsciousness.

"Fuck youuu-". This is what Nicoleta is trying to say as the needle is being stabbed into her, before she begins to pass out.

Meanwhile, the water club smashes straight into Toma, knocking him to the ground, facing bleeding and out. What a pleasant morning.
