"I was...pretty pissed. Like...want to go flip another car pissed."

Location

<XS> Jack and Sergio's Dorm - FL2

A standard, if comfortable, dorm room. Two beds, two closets, two desks.

With the door to the room slightly open just to help a little with the heat even if the place is air conditioned, Jack's in the dorm room he shares with Sergio tonight. He's been in a pretty rotten mood for the past several days and exams have only made things worse. Right now, he's sitting at his desk in shorts and a t-shirt with the Nightwing logo on it doing some studying. Eventually there's a THUMP as he lets his head hit the desk. "If I try to study any more, my head may explode."

Sergio appears to be asleep in bed. Shirtless and in a pair of basketball shorts, the teen lays on his back with his arms stretched out above his head. His room, as usual, is a frenzy of new care packages with the notable addition of a plush, velcro orangutan.

<< Dude, cut yourself some slack. >> Sergio's mind passes back into the room, his telepathic voice projected from the doorway.

Not a moment later, his lashes flutter and his body stirs. He props himself up on his elbows.

Jack jumps slightly but turns his unseen head towards the door. He waits until Sergio is propping himself up to talk though. "How do you mean?" he asks, closing the door with a little telekinetic push. "And welcome back. Where'd you float off to?"

Sergio knuckles one of his eyes sleepily, "Just wandering. I can move easier without this thing." He eases himself up into a sitting position, careful not to make himself dizzy. "I didn't want to say anything but your mood is kind of ...palpable." Sergio flexes an arm before stretching it out, and then the other, "Are you freaking about school starting or what?"

Jack sits back up, rocking for a moment on the chair's back legs before setting it down properly. He turns in the chair to face Sergio though, arms folded on the back. When his mood is questioned, Jack gives an unseen frown and looks down. "Not as much as I guess I could be," he replies, shoulders lifting for a partial shrug. "Just...hear what happened with Professor Holland?"

“Yeah,” Sergio pouts out his bottom lip some, nodding. “Just what I’ve picked up while floating around. But I don’t really know who that is. ...is he close to you?” He inches forward sympathetically.

Jack takes a deep breath, eyes on the floor. "Sort of. I do like him and he is awesome...friends with his kids and his family is well...they're the reason I'm here at the school and not sleeping in a box in an abandoned fast food place," he mutters. "Just...awhile back, I was out in New York and I got on the wrong train. Ended up way away from where I needed to be...so I called Professor Holland since he was in the area and he was going to give me a ride here," Jack begins the story, eyes closed. "Only when we met up...these...bigoted assholes showed up and started picking a fight. One pulled a knife and another jumped me from behind. Almost kicked my face in...but it got bad when another started shooting with arrows. Got me right in the stomach and the Professor in the chest and well...I'd be dead if he didn't drag me out of there," he sighs. "and then the next day I hear they're blaming the whole thing on him and saying he went after them when they threw the first punch and we were just trying to -leave-..."

“Damn,” Sergio’s brow knits with concern as he listens, inching forward little by little until he’s at the end of his bed. “Look up at me,” he says, tenderly but with some force. He waits a moment until he can make eye contact with Jack, or what he assumes is eye contact, “...You know that none of this is your fault, though. ...Right?” He brings up a hand to rub his chin, and then runs it palm-open through his tousled black hair.

Jack looks up, a little confused. He meets Sergio's gaze and then gives a little laugh. "Yeah...I know it’s not my fault. I mean...I still feel like I should have done more but..." he trails off into a sigh. "The whole thing was going to lead to a trial...big one...I was going to testify and everything. Just...I was hoping it would happen. Those...assholes would get proven wrong and get locked away and..." the invisible teen sighs again. "Then the Professor went and pleaded guilty to the whole thing," there's bitterness in his tone. "Just...lied and said he did it and now he's on probation and has to go to anger management and those assholes are still out there and they're going to cause trouble again...I even ran into one again the other day," he pauses, shoulders tense. "I was...pretty pissed. Like...want to go flip another car pissed."

A flush creeps over Sergio's neck and some of his chest, "You flipped a car?" He tries not to sound too excited by the prospect.

With a sigh, he resigns to return to the topic at hand. "I'm sure he has his reasons. Are you mad at him? For just saying he did it?"

Jack laughs a bit. "Not since that first time...but I sure as hell wanted to," he says. "Possibly onto that girl I ran into...or one of the assholes who attacked me later that night," he shakes it off though. "I was mad at him. Still...still kind of am. Even if I know his reasons now...which just make me mad at me for being angry in the first place and makes it all worse," he sighs, seeming to deflate a little.

Sergio reaches forward, planting a hand on Jack's knee if he can, "People like that girl. They never win, in the end. Not really." He removes his hand, folding it in his lap. The teen presses forward a warm, crooked smirk, "And like I said before, cut yourself some goddamn slack."

Jack allows the contact, an unseen smile on his face. "I hope you're right about that," he says. "Easier said than done, man," he says. After a moment, he climbs off his chair and instead sits on the edge of his bed. "Find anything interesting while you were floating around?"

Satisfied, Sergio crawls back to lounge in his bed once more. “Only the fact that pretty much everyone here has an awesome, offensive power but me,” he chuckles, propping himself up on his elbows once more. It doesn’t seem to be a very serious concern of his. Yawning with an audible little squeak, he covers his mouth with a hand. “Everywhere /really/ interesting always has someone around who can tell I’m there,” he mutters with a mischievous glint in his eye, lowering his head onto his pillow and still looking over in Jack’s direction.

Jack rolls back to his feet, starting to pack up his books. "I don't think everyone does," he shrugs. "And you still might develop one. Or a new use for one you already have," he says. The squeak gets Jack looking over his shoulder. "What was that?" he asks, a little amused. That glint has Jack smirking while putting away his books. "Oh really? And where were you trying to look that was interesting?"

Sergio tries to suppress a grin but fails. "Nothing," he answers too-quickly. Folding his hands behind his head, he watches Jack clean up his side of the room, "I don't know. Mysterious doorways. Hitchhiking on elevator rides. Everywhere is interesting to me. I guess I'm too scared to get in any /real/ trouble to press my luck. ...You've never-" Sergio scoffs, laughing quietly, "-oh, I guess you'd have to be naked."

Jack's smirk is invisible but one can almost predict that it’s there. "Nothing, huh?" he asks, "So you tried to go down to the lower levels or something?" he asks with a laugh. "Have to be naked to go where?" he's curious now.

“To sneak around,” Sergio arches his back upward like a cat, stretching before resettling. “I mean, they say powers can change like that, but do they real-ly?” He breaks up his words as he fights back another yawn. He fails, and this time, it’s longer and just as audible as the last one. Maybe this time, he goes high pitched on purpose. “Alright, you’re putting me to sleep,” he jokes, extending a hand to turn off his bedside light, “I can’t even keep my eyes open.”

Jack shrugs before pulling off his shirt. "They might but...I think there's a lot more of just figuring out new ways to use what we already have and getting better and what we can," he says. The high pitched yawn gets another laugh as Jack drops his shorts and climbs into bed as just a pair of floating boxers. "Or I could be turning into the Sandman on top of being the Invisible Man," he jokes. "Goodnight, man," he offers, flicking his light off with his TK.

<< Three powers? No fair! >> Sergio’s happy voice rumbles quietly from just above is sleeping body. He laughs. << Goodnight, man. >>
