But if he repent not he shall not be numbered among my people, that he may not destroy my people, for behold I know my sheep, and they are numbered.

DJ ought to be repenting -- that's clear, right? Sins can be forgiven but you have to repent of them. Isn't that why he's here? Why is he here, surely there was a reason --

He's staring down at the pages of Nephi in his hand as he waits. Reading it again and again even if the words are familiar. Waiting, even if he knows what's likely coming. (That's why he's here, right?)

And ye see that I have commanded that none of you should go away, but rather have commanded that ye should come unto me, that ye might feel and see.

It says that, too, and he likes that better, today. Holds that tight even as the doors open and the membership council --

they're saying a lot and only some of it is sinking in. Not punishment, not judgment, but a blessing and an invitation to return to Christ.

Disappointing, he hears, which sounds like a judgment, to him, but then, he isn't on the bishopric. Expected more. Promises to be with him in love and support on his path of repentance.

Formal membership restrictions comes as no surprise. It's only at hoping you wouldn't repeat the mistakes of the other -- that he sits up just a little straighter, brows lifting.

"-- so this is what it takes to get you to acknowledge him? Me? Us?"

It's probably not the humility they were looking for. DJ isn't angry. Just disappointed. There's an edge of incredulous laughter in his voice. "I have been begging for guidance for a year and now you're tripping over yourselves to promise it? How can you disfellowship me when you've barely reached a hand out to me this whole time?"

There's the beginnings of protest but he's already on his feet, head shaking. "God's put it on my heart that this is not the right path for me after all. Good day, gentlemen."

Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world.

Yes. There was a reason, after all.
