Introduction xxxxx˙ʇnoɔS ʎoq Description xxxxx5'11", athletic from plenty of regular training but lean rather than bulky. He isn't particularly eye-catching; boy-next-door kind of looks, a neatly groomed crop of dark brown hair, carefully trimmed beard and mustache, warm hazel-green eyes. His missing left arm is often the most noticeable thing about his appearance; the prostheses he tends to wear are often decorated in ways that make the mechanical limb readily apparent. Reputation xxxxxComplicated. DJ's counterpart, Flicker, was a very well-known and well-respected member of the New York mutant community. A long-time X-Man, a dedicated and active member of the Prometheus raid team, a guard at the Mendel Clinic for many years, reigning Fight Club champion, woodworking teacher at Chimaera Arts collective, a mainstay in the activist community in the mantle of medic and core jail support organizer -- and after his shooting death at the hands of police, the wave of protests that filled the city for weeks blew his reputation up even more outsized than it had ever been in life. It is highly likely that most mutants living in New York are aware of who Dawson was and fairly likely that many people who pay attention to the news at all countrywide are aware of his name, too. xxxxxBut DJ -- is not Dawson, though he wears his name and face. Displaced from his world and everyone in it, it's taken some work to carve out a reputation of his own and not just the one he's come reluctantly pre-saddled with. He had a brief stint of high prominence when Captain America tapped him to join the Avengers -- a very controversial move that saw heavy public backlash to a mutant on the team; he has since disappeared from their ranks. xxxxxIn the time since, he has been growing his own -- well, some say sect, or church, when they are being polite; cult when they are not, a radical/fundamentalist (in the core meaning of the word -- going back to the roots of the religion) offshoot of the LDS church. Within the church he is known as a deeply devout but wildly unsettling maverick, shaking up the foundations of a church that does not like to be shaken; outside the church this phenomenon has been met with bafflement when people hear about it, most non-LDS people seeing him as very likely crazy/fringe or simply a fraud. xxxxxAmong Prometheans (& to a lesser degree the X-Men that have trained with them), he's also known to be -- at once uncannily like Flicker and uncannily not. Similar mannerisms, similar ideologies, similar in their deep commitment to their community, faith, and work -- but war has shaped DJ's mindset in deeply entrenched ways that are likely quite jarring when they surface, such as his far more ruthless fighting style and the efficiency with which he'll dispatch people he sees to be a danger. xxxxxMost recently he's also been working at the Mendel Clinic -- as a doctor, this time, not a guard -- and has been developing a reputation among mutants with strong physiological differences, particularly very animal-like ones, as a highly competent and compassionate doctor. History xxxxxHad a whole other life in a whole other world. Kind of starting fresh in this one. Powers xxxxxSuperhuman reflexes and mental processing, very short-range teleportation. Skills xxxxxA veterinarian by training, particularly knowledgeable about the care of birds and farm animals; by necessity he has A Lot of practice applying his skills to mending humans, too. xxxxxSurvived in a world that was actively hunting him for a while -- has a grab bag of useful skills that helped with it. Extremely adept at combat, armed or unarmed, good at figuring out how to navigate and survive when dropped into new situations with little to no resources. Doesn't like having little to no resources; a Mormon Boy Scout, is a compulsive prepper -- not in the stockpile firearms sense but in the make sure you and your community have the tools you need to feed and shelter and care for yourselves and whoever might turn up needing aid sense. xxxxxMaking his own furniture didn't come out of necessity, though; that was a family craft long before the genocide started, and the furniture he makes won't just last you a lifetime but will look beautiful as well.
