Silence continues as the girl approaches, Jack slipping his phone back into his pocket. He's quietly hoping this isn't a new student someone sent his way, in no mood to play welcoming party. The building speed and momentum have brows rising and Jack preparing to defend himself if he needs to. The tears stop him from actually launching a defense though, letting out an 'oof' when slammed into. He's a little shocked but initial comments are put on hold by those words. He's silent for a few moments longer, slowly processing things. "What..." he pauses, voice quiet and uncertain. "Serg?"

Quite smaller than Jack now, Sergio presses his face into Jack's chest. Closing his eyes, the smile fades about as he nods into the other boy's chest. Not for the first time today and likely not the last time, he begins to quietly cry. "You're my best friend," he manages to mumble in Tiffany's cloying little voice.

Right now, Jack looks as awkward as empty clothes can. Empty sleeves held up like he has no idea what to do with them, girl clinging to him and crying against his chest, Jack glances around quickly as if expecting someone to jump out and laugh at him declaring it some cruel prank. It's when that tiny voice hits him that Jack finally does something. He carefully returns the hug, almost like he's afraid he might hurt the other. "Same here," he replies, sniffling a little. His tears are unseen but at least the few that fall can be felt. "Best friend I've got."

Friendship Magic
Dramatis Personae

Jack, Sergio

In Absentia

2016-01-12

Takes place some time after this.

Location

<XS> Conservatory

Tall panes of glass keep this large indoor garden warm year round. Tended to by the school's groundskeeper, the conservatory is lush with plant life, a carefully cultivated paradise within Xavier's walls. The room serves as a classroom as well; in the center of the garden a ring of seats forms a small circle, a favorite locale for some teachers to hold court.

Jack's always had a fairly spooky look. Empty floating clothes freak some people out. But this chilly evening, the light of his cellphone is adding a little more spookiness. Dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a heavy black hoodie, he's got himself a spot in the conservatory and is reading articles about raising fish on his phone. He came out here to avoid people, having been scarce for the most part since his meeting with Ororo. He's been angry and avoiding people in general and it seems like his rotten mood is still in place, shoulders tense as he leans back on the bench he's claimed for himself.

As Ororo's car pulls up the school's drive, its passenger is at the height of emotion. As the vehicle rolls to a stop, the blonde bolts. She hasn't changed her clothes: an over-large New York Giants hoodie, powdery-pink colored pj bottoms, and a pair of camel-colored UGG boots (the kind with pom-poms) that were readily available to slip on when Ororo and she were invited to /leave/ the Newenter home.

The teen girl rushes past anyone she comes upon. Clearing the second floor first but finding Jack's room empty, she seeks out other potential haunts. As evident by her chest heaving in panting breath, the conservatory isn't her first choice... but it does make the list. She stops in the entryway with both hands braced against the doorframe. Her eyes swell with the onset of tears as they find Jack, and she prowls resolutely forward. Very gradually, her pouty, fat-lipped mouth presses into a goofy, lopsided smile.

"I don't even know if I still have to do this..." Jack mutters to himself as he finishes a youtube video on the proper care of Yellow Perches. He's unaware of anyone looking for him, shifting a little as he flips through articles about the different types of fish farms. Hearing someone coming, he looks up slowly. An unseen brow arches at the sight of the girl he's never seen before, his research earlier not turning up any pictures. Frowning invisibly, he lowers his phone and sits up a little straighter as he waits for the girl to say something.

The girl isn't deterred by the silence, nor Jack's lack of expression. As she walks, she only appears to build momentum until it might be that she can't stop. Her smile continues to grow, even as tears roll down her cheeks. As she comes upon Jack, she slams into him. Both of her spindly arms wrap around his neck and she presses into him with a hug whether he likes it or not, "It's me." ... "It's me, I swear."

"Serg?"
