"Just doing my job."
Introduction

xxxxxTony can come across as almost mild to people he’s just met or doesn’t know well, but underneath that surface is a lot of passion when the right subjects come into play. He can be an occasional hothead, but he also recognizes this in himself and works really hard at keeping his temper in check. Sometimes, he even hits something of a zen-like state, a calm and steady rock while a sea of chaos boils around him. Losing it in his line of work, after all, can be dangerous, even get somebody killed.

History

xxxxxAnthony “Tony” Scaleri, Jr. had a mostly happy, albeit noisy, childhood, growing up with five siblings in a cramped row house in Queens. His parents, Italian-American Anthony Sr. and African-American Christine, occasionally had their spats (with a thrown pot or dish once in a while, being passionate people), but they were and are madly in love and passed that wonderful warmth down to their children. They were all close growing up, which is about the only way to go when you’re living on top of each other. Tony worked hard, got okay grades, played a lot of street ball, and got into the kinds of trouble only boys can get into in New York.

His manifestation was anything but a manifestation, really, when he hit puberty. Due to the nature of his mutation, Tony more gradually became aware of it over a period of years, instead of getting smacked in the face by it one day. He was more worried about learning how to shave and dating girls at that age, anyway.

Tony was also one of those kids who was so impacted by 9/11, he felt like he had to do something about it, anything to help out and to deal with his anger. Straight out of high school, he enlisted in the Marines. His parents were both proud and quietly terrified at the same time. He did three long tours of duty over in The Sandbox and reached the rank of Sergeant. His buddies called him Deagle—Desert Eagle—because he never seemed bothered by the heat, like he was meant to live in it. But Tony’d had enough of the desert after those three tours, and tapped out with an honorable discharge.

Returning back home, though, that need to do something to help wouldn’t leave him alone. So Tony became a firefighter, like his father before him, maybe a little more comfortable in a uniform than out of one. He likes his job. He’s decent at it, most days. The best part about it, to him, is that he can help people out without ever trying to shoot anyone.

Powers

xxxxxTony is resistant (not immune) to extreme temperatures, able to function normally in cold or hot weather that would otherwise kill a normal man within half an hour. He can also withstand a plunge in freezing water or move through fire without ill effect so long as he doesn’t linger; if, say, his shirtsleeve caught fire, it would take a few minutes for his skin to finally burn, though eventually it will. Such a mutation can come in handy in his line of work, from moving through a building in flames to helping people caught out in a snowstorm. As either part of or a side effect of his mutation, Tony always feels warm to the touch. Most of his ex-girlfriends found that fact to be a bonus.
