The kitchen staff at Xavier's tends well to the needs of its residents. Always cognizant of its students and faculty's dietary needs alike, the menu has a wide variety of choices, and the longtime cook works wonders in the kitchen. The pantry, too, is kept well stocked for those who want to come prepare themselves their own snacks. The shelf, fridge, and freezer space is ample, though if anyone wants to keep their own food there, they'd better make sure it's labeled clearly, and even that is no guarantee it'll last.

With all of the different dietary requirements of the students and teachers at Xavier's, the kitchen is rarely entirely empty for long. Even tonight, as the semester has drawn to a close with a short day today, there are plenty of people still remaining around the mansion over the winter break, students and teachers alike. It has been a somewhat chill, rainy day on campus, with a near constant drizzle that has assisted in diminishing the piles of snow that had lingered around campus. The population of the mansion has dwindled as the day went on, and students who had families to return home to have already made their way out.

One such individual is Mallory Winthrop, the senior librarian, has apparently decided that a post dinner snack is necessary this chill evening. Dressed relatively casually, in a pair of dark gray wrap pants, edged in silver embroidery and modified to allow for her tail, is paired with a soft, flowing dove gray tank top; her hair is pulled back into a simple ponytail that manages to accentuate the dark black rams horns that curl from her temples. Each step of her cloven hooves while she moves around the kitchen produces a quiet 'clack' noise on the tile flooring. A small plate of food is being assembled on the center island of the kitchen, with a sliced apple, a few slices of cheeses, some crackers, and room to spare, thanks to the neat stacking the librarian has been employing. She hums quietly - apparently 'White Christmas' to those familiar with holiday music - as she continues rummaging through the cabinets, eventually selecting a pair of glasses from the cabinet above, setting them beside the filling plate while she ponders for a moment.

Having missed out on dinner due to other, more /important/ things, Ghost walks into the kitchen, from the Great Hall. Dressed in a sort of Newsie-ish outfit, with matching PRESS hat, Ghost has a stack of Monday's newspapers under her arm, having been trying to hand them out to anyone who hasn't read her article. Marching straight towards the fridge to obtain food, she spots Mallory. "Oh, Ms. Winthrop! Have you read my article yet? It's mandatory. Like, strictly mandatory. Well, I'll annoy anyone who doesn't read it, really.".

The arrival of a student into the kitchen draws Mallory's attention from the fridge, withdrawing a glass carafe of dark red juice as she stands to close the fridge. "Ah, Ms. Shafir. Late night snack, or later than average dinner?" Mallory asks with a gentle smile, carefully filling the two glasses on the table with the red juice, dark eyes carefully gauging the level of the liquid in each. She eyes the plate of food, attention somewhat divided between Ghost and the surroundings as she continues working on gathering her plate of snacks. "Yes, your article," Mallory says, her lips drawing into a thin, somewhat disapproving line as she speaks, "I did indeed read it, yes, though not out of any 'mandatory' requirement." The librarian pauses, leaning briefly against the island in the center, "I do not believe that harassing students and faculty into reading your article is necessarily advisable, even if it is a subject that should be addressed."

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. Just a bit..overzealous.". Ghost frowns, and then grins, realizing Mallory read it, as she rummages through the fridge. "So...what'd you think? I worked hard on that, need to know /everyone's/ opinion.". She grins wider, pulling out lunch meat and toppings from the fridge, heading towards the bread box. "I mean, I even got /interviews/."

Mallory sighs softly, and shakes her head, "There is no need to apologize to me. I keep copies of the school paper on file - and more often than not take some time to read the head lining articles. And while pride in your work is a good thing, you should not force it on people. It likely breeds resentment." She moves back to one of the cabinets, selecting a small packet of chocolates to add a few pieces to the plate as she thinks on the questions. "Interviews are often excellent to use in news papers, but you may need a wider variety of them in the future. You accused the administration of discrimination against physically different mutants," Mallory pauses here, perhaps a touch of a smirk on her lips as her long tail lashes briefly behind her, "Did you attempt to interview any of the teachers involved in the incidents, or other members of the administration?" Her eyes scan the food assembled on her plate, and searches around for a larger tray to carry things on, "It was a thought provoking piece, though, I must say. The incidents in question occurred before my arrival, and I was not very familiar with the situations in question."

"I..well..I didn't know who..uh..um..". Ghost is getting flustered by Mallory's criticism, as she is stacking her sandwich. "No..? I didn't think to..I..have to go.". Obviously nervous, Ghost takes her sandwich, running off, not even putting the food away. Tsk, tsk.

Mallory sighs softly as Ghost beats a hasty retreat, shaking her head, "And that is what I was afraid of." The librarian makes certain to clean up, both after herself, and the leavings that Ghost abandoned in her hasty retreat. Everything away, she loads her tray up and heads out of the kitchen with her late night snack, still shaking her head.
