Liv and Sergio

2015-10-18

<< Jack and I have tried that /a million/ times. It never works. >>

Location

<XS> Second Floor Hall - FL2

The main hallway of the second floor runs lengthwise through the building, secondary corridors branching off at regular intervals. Tall windows at either end allow daylight to filter in, while rows of recessed lights in the ceiling bathe the hall with an incandescent glow come nighttime. The hardwood floor has a slight creak to it.

Midday, moments after third period, the halls flood with students. They laugh and chatter, clustering in every conceivable direction with innumerable, harmless displays of power to get to their next class, or carry their books.

A floor below, Sergio doesn't get up from his desk as everyone else in the class rises. Instead, he remains very still with his head buried into two folded arms. The study hall moderator nudges him a few times to try and wake up but it's to no avail.

Somewhat more awake is Liv who is skillfully weaving in between the crowds. Her arms are wrapped tightly about books, notebooks and folders, pressed into her chest to avoid dropping any. Today, her green hair is pulled into a high ponytail and she's wearing a blue skirt and grey blouse. As she hurries to class, she takes a brief moment to stop at a bubbler and take a quick drink.

<< Hey! >> Sergio chimes abruptly, his telepathic voice brimming with enthusiasm

A girl passing by Liv gives a little jump, eyeing the girl at the water fountain curiously and then looking all around as she continues to walk.

For his part, Sergio is nowhere to be seen. Though, a student with telepathy does drift by at the same time. They casually hold up a hand as they go on their way, "Hey, Liv. Hey, Serg."

Liv jumps also, apparently still not used to Sergio randomly popping in. <<Oh...hey. What's up?>> she thinks, her words stiff and choppy. It's not often you're talking to someone with your mind. How do you even format thoughts into coherent words mentally? She lifts her head slightly, staring at the wall just across from the water fountain. Where does one look when they're mentally talking to someone?

Sergio chuckles gently, the pleasant rumble seeming to reverberate along the hallway where Liv is. << Sorry. I haven't figured out how /not/ to scare the crap out of people. >> Unseen, Sergio let's a moment pass, and then another as her responses to him go unheard.

<< Hello? >>

<< Liv? >>

<< Can you hear me? >>

"Oh...sorry. Still figuring out how your powers work," Liv says, aloud this time. She tries to say it loud enough for him to hear though not loud enough to attract the attention of those around her. Though really, in this school, she is probably far from the first person to talk to 'themselves'. "What's up?"

Sergio laughs again, inwardly smiling as she keeps her voice down. << Were you THINKING at me? Jack and I have tried that /a million/ times. It never works. As long as you can hear yourself, I can hear you. >>

<< Can I walk you to class? I uh, wanted to ask you something. >>

Liv blushes softly as she's called out. "Yeah, I might've...wait, hold on." She quickly pulls out her phone and, without even turning it on, quickly holds it to her ear. "Ah, that's better." Now that she doesn't look quite as crazy, she speaks a little louder and more confidently. "What'd you want to ask?"

<< Brilliant! >> Sergio beams, seeming to float somewhere in the air just nearby. << Well, I was hoping you'd be my date to the Halloween dance. I mean, I was hoping you'd want to be. >> If a disembodied mind could hold its breath, this one would be.

"Oh." Liv carefully eases her way to a nearby corner, affording herself a touch of privacy. "Um, sure. Yeah. That...that sounds nice," she says, smiling softly as she watches the rest of the students pass by. "What are you going as?"

<< ...Cool. Yeah! I think it'll be fun. Right? A bunch of mutants on Halloween. What could go wrong? >> Sergio pauses thoughtfully, before making an amused snort. << I have /no/ idea! >> Maybe he'll see what Jack's going as. << Do you have one yet? >>

"No, not yet. I didn't think I'd be doing anything. Maybe I'll go as a bed sheet ghost or something," Liv says, grinning slightly. "As long as we're not going as a couples costume or something." Crap, was it weird she brought up couples costumes? I mean, one date doesn't constitute 'dating'. Or does it? Crap.

<< I only approve of that costume idea if it’s a patterned sheet. >> Sergio sounds like he’s smiling, too. His presence lingers, warm and happy even if it isn’t necessarily able to be sensed. << Maybe I’ll just put on a bald cap and go as Professor Xa- Oh, crap! It’s almost fourth period! I have to get back to my body- !! >>

"Maybe I'll go as Poison Ivy then. The really bad Uma Thurman one," Liv says, barely holding back a laugh. Her eyes naturally dart up to a clock. "Oh, yeah, I've got English. Take care," she says, quickly shoving her phone back into her pocket and darting back into the crowd of students.

Downstairs, Sergio sits up with a snort. Bringing the back of his hand to wipe away some drool from his chin, he rises from his seat and clumsily gathers his books with a goofy smile stuck on his face.
