2013-12-28 A stroll through the neighborhood proves eventful for Selene. |
Location
<NYC> Upper East Side | |
One of the most affluent neighborhoods in Manhattan, the Upper East Side is home to the rich and... rich. Swanky apartments, upscale shopping, posh restaurants, this is the place to go if you have money and need somewhere to spend it. Well, one of the places to go. New York does not really have a shortage of them. It's just an hour past midnight, the sky clear but cold. Wrapped in a black peacoat with trousers and furry boots, Selene just screams 'wealthy' in the way she looks and walks. Her long black hair flowing behind her, Selene is walking through a neighborhood of townhouses, smoking a cigarette. She pulls her phone out, an expensive model, glancing at the text messages, before putting it away, taking another drag of the cigarette. Alicia sits on the front steps of a nicely appointed townhouse, one of those things that's been in private family hands for ages. She has a light jacket on over her dress, growing up in Maine having accustomed her to cold, although she does have a stocking cap pulled down over her ears, white-blonde hair flowing down her shoulders from underneath. "Ungh...no. Wrong," she mutters, jabbing at a button on the keyboard of her laptop, "That is not how you gather manna, you stupid noob," she mutters to herself. She doesn't quite notice that, as she does so, a few autumn leaves have begun to float around her, swirling as if carries by a soft, invisible wind. Alicia herself is too engrossed in her raiding party, however, to notice. Noticing the leaves, Selene stops, sensing the energy from Alicia. Scanning over her mind, she begins picking out basic information, like name, age, etc. Approaching her curiously, Selene's voice is calm, with tinges of deviousness. "It's a bit late to be out, isn't it? I'm sure murdering fantasy creatures can wait until morning for someone of your age.". Though her tone sounds caring, Selene actually doesn't give a damn, scanning Alicia's thoughts for when she responds. Selene glares at the leaves, a grin on her face, but says nothing about it. "And what is mana?" Alicia gasps, startled, having been so engrossed she didn't even notice the stylish woman approach. The leaves crumble into dust, as if clenched in a set of invisible fists, the crinkled remains falling to the ground like autumnal snow. Alicia's pale blue eyes take the beautiful woman in, blinking momentarily as she tries to adjust her thinking from the game to reality, "OH! Um...yeah, it's...I don't have, like a bedtime or anything and my grandmother isn't even home yet...mana is a thing in my game, it's this stuff you get that like powers magic so you can cast spells or heal people..." She realizes she's rambling, knowing that her grandmother would be rolling her eyes about her atrocious manners about now, "Um...sorry. I'm Alicia. Can I help you?" Alicia's surprise just puts a grin on Selene's face. "I was just walking through the neighborhood and spotted you. You seemed interesting. It's a thing I do.". Selene's still thought-tracing, learning as much about this interesting young girl as possible. "What is with the leaves? Telekinesis? Plant manipulation? Fascinating.". Selene grins, awaiting a response for this, before introducing herself. "Gallio. Selene Gallio. Charmed." Alicia flushes when the leaves are mentioned, having not even noticed them herself, but knowing quickly enough what it is. "What??! Um...it's...it's nothing, just...something that happens sometimes...I'm sorry if it bothered you..." she murmurs apologetically, never imagining the things that happen to her could be anything remotely like what the woman mentioned...if she even understood it, "It's...it's very nice to meet you. Coventry. That's my last name. Alicia. That's my first. Which I already said. Alicia Coventry...that's me. Yes," she blushes, eyes flicking downwards towards her screen, where she's just died a horrid death, the childish curses of her clanmates going across her screen. "Being a mutant is nothing to be ashamed of. My most loyal asset is one himself.". Selene says this in a tone, masking her own mutancy but fine with revealing someone else's. She glances to the laptop, even though she can't see the screen. "Should be more careful, the other team might win if you continue playing like that.". She grins, her eyes now scanning Alicia, instead of her mind. "Well, Madame Coventry. It was a pleasure to meet you." Alicia furrows her brow, "Wait...mutant? What do you mean?" she says, the game momentarily forgotten as the classy lady looks down at her, "I'm not a...a...mutant. I mean, I'm not even the one doing it. I...I don't know who is, it just keeps...happening. Stuff moving or...things breaking...but it's not me...I..." she blinks, biting her bottom lip, "I think it's, like, a ghost or something..." Selene just smiles at Alicia's denial, closing her connection with Alicia's mind. "Well then, you better call an exterminator. Ghosts can be pretty pesky. Many of them reside in France. First hand experience.". She grins, before turning back towards the street. "Ciao." Alicia blinks nervously, "I..." she sighs and sits down, "I already did," she mutters to herself, sighing as she picks her laptop back up. She's been exorcised, prayed over, baptized and incensed more times than she can count. None of it's done a darn bit of good, except make her decide to start sleeping in on Sundays... |
