In Absentia

"Yes."

Location

<BOM> The Doghouse - Ascension Island

Welcome to Cabin Daken, a sprawling log estate with two floors. On the first is your kitchen and sitting area. The kitchen has a breakfast bar, restaurant quality sink, and a gas range. The sitting area has a fireplace and comfortable sectional. Lining the back wall is a simple oak bar.

Moving the tour upstairs you'll find the sleeping area. A full sized bed sits tucked against the back wall and faces a simple chest of drawers with a curved television mounted above it.

It's another day at Kame House, and the cool evening have caused Akihiro to start fires to help keep the house warm. Currently he's padding around the kitchen on bare feet looking for something to drink. After much consideration he breaks out a jar of Country Time lemonade powder and mixes himself a glass.

Moo-Moo is currently rolled over onto the middle of her back asleep near the fireplace, snoring quietly. Everything is at peace for the moment.

Anette steps in from the bathroom, her hand pressed against her stomach. She has an old look on her face, like she's lost in thought, an add mix of feelings crossing her face. She makes her way over to Akihiro, smiling softly as she watches him mix lemonade. "Hey sweetie," she says, reaching down scratch Moo-Moo's belly as she passes by. "I've got a present for you," she says, resuming her path to Akihiro. Once she's beside him, she lifts the bottom of her shirt, bunching it just below her chest and revealing her stomach. The slightest bit of roundness is visible, though still easily hidden beneath her shirt. "I guess it's real."

Akihiro straightens up, looking over at Anette as she comes through. "Do ya babe?" he asks, setting his glass and spoon aside and turning to face her. When she reveals her stomach he wanders over and puts his hands on her hips. "Well look at that." He drops to a knee and presses his lips to her stomach. "I can't get over just how beautiful you are."

Anette tries to hide the smile that appears when Akihiro kneels down to kiss it but fails, instead trying to disguise it with a laugh. "You're so fucking cheesy," she teases, lowering her shirt and covering her stomach again. "You're just saying that because I have boobs now." For emphasis, she cups her hands over her chest. Sure enough, what one was flat now also has two small, barely there mounds. But more than she had before.

"I think you're more excited than I am." Akihiro teases, shooting his child's mother a grin. He rises up to his feet and while he keeps one hand at her hip, the other is raised and slid underneath her own to cup one of those mounds. "I think you're pretty swell regardless." to emphasize his statement he leans forward and presses a kiss to her lips.

"'Swell'? Nobody says 'swell' anymore old man," Anette teases, kissing him back gently. "And just imagine, they're going to get /bigger/!" she says with overly dramatic excitement. She smirks and pulls away, pulling a glass out of the cabinet and making lemonade for herself. "Pretty soon, we'll know the sex of the baby. Did you...have any thoughts on that?"

"Plenty of people say swell. Most of them are my age, but still." Akihiro returns to his glass and takes a swallow. "You're breasts getting bigger is a trap. It's nature trying to ensure we have another kid." A grin in shot over to her to show that he's just teasing. "About the gender? Nah. I feel like it isn't really all that important. Either we'll have a little girl or a boy. As long as they're healthy that's all that matters."

"Remind me what I see in you again?" Anette teases, taking her glass and making her way to the living room area. Just stretching her legs, she walks about, casually admiring the room and odd bits adorning it. "But did you want to know? I mean...some people like to be surprised. For some reason." Her eyes begin scanning the bookshelves, casually glancing the titles and sipping her lemonade. "Since when have you been a bookworm?"

"Ah, since nineteen-fifty?" Akihiro says, brows furrowing as he thinks. He heads over to the couch and plops down, "I don't have all my books here. But I've got a little bit of everything there." A few of them were even safes, but there wasn't really any point in bringing them up.

"Never took you as the academic type," Anette says quietly. Her eyes narrow slightly and she reaches forward, picking one of the books. She doesn't seem all that surprised when the book, despite it's realistic spine, doesn't actually have pages. She sets her lemonade down and flips the book open. "Fake books? You really are cheesy as fu-" she start to say but the last word is cut off. Slowly, she reaches in the cavity and pulls out a small, black box. A ring box. She says nothing, doesn't even open it, just holds the box in her fingertips, letting the false book fall to the floor, anything else hidden inside crashing as well.

"Well, I'm a samurai, Anette. More to it than swords and self discipline." Akihiro lifts his shoulders in a shrug. He liked to think he was plenty smart. Whatever he may have been about to say next, he freezes when Anette mentions the fake book. "Was wondering if you'd ever stumble on that." A hand comes up to scratch at his cheek. "I've had that for a while now. Actually got it before we split up."

Akihiro's words barely register as Anette's face goes pale. "You told me...you were planning...god. I never, I never believed-" Anette stumbles over her words, carrying the bo over to the nearest chair and falling into it. Slowly, she lifts the lid, revealing the ring itself and she audibly gasps. "It's...beautiful." She glances towards the glass of lemonade still sitting across the room. "Goddamn I need something stronger."

"Well, right now it's a ring in a box. Figured I'd keep it around in case you ever felt like settling down with me." Akihiro gets up and walks on over and takes up Anette's glass, bringing it over to where she sits. "I wanted one at least half as pretty as you. Think I got it. Maybe one day you'll want it." He flashes a grin over and goes back to take his seat on the couch.

Anette can only manage a loud exhale when Akihiro explains himself. She ignores him as he approaches, ignores the lemonade set beside her, only staring at the ring as if she expected it to jump out and bite her. A few more moments of silence and Anette slowly looks up, her face oddly blank but she mumbles, "Yes." She clears her throat, looking down at the ring with a look off confusion, as if barely believing her response. "If you're still asking...yes."

"Wait, what?" Akihiro freezes, not quite sat down yet. He stares at Anette in disbelief for a moment. Two moments. Then he simply walks right back over, but instead of setting down a lemonade he leans over and presses his lips to hers. "I love you." he whispers, the shock of everything not quite worn off yet.

Anette seems to be in her own state of shock, despite the words coming out of her mouth. Though when Akihiro kisses her, she wakes up out of it, smiling up at him though her face remains a shade or two paler than normal. "I love you. I always have. No more hiding behind liquor and drugs. Being with you...is the only thing that's ever made sense or felt normal. So...yes."

Akihiro kisses Anette again, this on more passionate. "That makes me real happy." His arms wrap around her and he presses his forehead against her's. "Think this might be the last thing I expected to happen today."

"Believe me, I did not wake up this morning thinking I would end the day engaged to you," Anette says, color beginning to return to her face and shock giving away to genuine happiness as she looks into Akihiro's eyes. Suddenly, she looks away from him, leaning her face back to glance back down at the ring, still in the box. Carefully, she removes it and slides it onto her left ring finger. "Not bad," she teases, holding her hand out and admiring the ring. "I always wanted a ring that could double as brass knuckles."

"It looks good on you." Akihiro slips Anette's right hand into his left as she admires the ring. "Maybe we should celebrate somehow?" he suggests, perking up a touch at the idea. "Though I'm not too sure what we'd do."

"Well, I was thinking about going maternity clothes shopping but that seems a little...bland now," Anette says, admiring the ring for a few more seconds before setting it down on the arm of the chair. "I think...just a quiet evening would be nice. Get used to the idea of being engaged to you."

"I like quiet evenings." Akihiro plants a kiss on Anette's neck. "Especially if they're with you." He rises to his feet and moves back over to the couch. "Wanna come sit over here with me? Probably end better than if you sat in my lap in the chair."

"Better? I don't know about that," Anette says though she does rise and follow Akihiro to the couch. She spreads a wing out behind and around him, laying her head on his shoulder. "This is nuts."
