<BOM> The Spatters - Ascension Island | |
The cabin is quiet and, without a fire burning in the fireplace, a cold chill lingers in the air. Perhaps this is why Anette is currently wrapped in a blanket burrito style on the couch. The TV is still on though the volume is all but mute, currently airing bad infomercials for things nobody would buy. As for why she's on the couch, well...perhaps the empty wine bottle and glass laying on the floor beside her might have something to do with it. Still, she doesn't look all that uncomfortable. Pedro slips into the cabin, his face bleary and tired. He shuts the door quietly, and immediately kicks off the large winter boots. The bat mutant begins to tiptoe through the living room, and glances to the couch a moment. Blinking, Pedro looks closely at the woman. "Anette? You okay?" he whispers. He takes a few tentative steps towards her. "You want a hand getting to bed?" Despite looking like the dead, it doesn't appear to take much to wake Anette up. Even if she particularly doesn't want to be woken right now. "Mm? No, no...I'm fine. Just...celebrating New Year's. Alone." Her voice is groggy and scratchy and it takes some time before she can force herself to sit up, reaching up to rub her eyes into a more wakeful state. "What've you been up to?" she asks, adjusting her blanket so it's wrapped about her wings and shoulders, holding it tightly around her before looking up to Pedro with a tired, slightly hungover smile. Pedro smiles faintly and looks down at his feet. "Doing the same, actually. Went for a flight, and just kinda... watched the fireworks from a distance. With a few of my closest fruit-flavoured alcoholic drinks." He lets out a slight sigh and looks back to her. "How're you feeling?" The young man shuffles forward a little, and plops down onto the edge of the couch. "That...sounds nice," Anette says, glancing down to the bottle on the floor and groaning slightly. "I feel like death. But I've had worse." Which really doesn't say much. She glances towards Pedro as he sits down, with a faint smile. "Did you have someone to kiss at midnight?" Pedro shakes his head. "No. Nothing to kiss except the mouth of a bottle." He chuckles and glances sideways at her. "Did you? And uh, you may feel like death, but you just look tired and nothing worse." "I've had a lot of practice being hungover," Anette says with an amused chuckle, picking up the bottle and giving it a slight shake to see if there's anything worth drinking out of it. There isn't. "That was pretty much my night. Surprisingly disappointing." She gives a quick sigh and sets the bottle back down on the floor. Pedro grins and looks away a moment. "My practice has been to wake up with a giant hangover, every time. I forget to drink water before sleeping." He stretches a hand to pick some fluff from one of his toeclaws. "Any New Years resolutions? Me? Going to learn some new languages this year. Given our experience during the zombie plague." Anette shakes her head slightly, though she does gaze towards the TV. "I never did New Years resolutions. Never had the patience or focus to actually see them through." She looks towards Pedro, raising a brow as she watches him pick his toeclaws. "That...would probably be smart though. Learning new languages. I just spent most of the night thinking. About stuff you've said actually." Pedro nods. "Yeah, like, we could learn them together, even. Maybe bring a few others along. Perhaps some of the mutants here could give classes? I think I'll look into that. Sign language too." He looks to her a moment, his ears perked up. "Stuff I said? It's not usually stuff I say that people think about." "Yeah, stuff you said. About...about love and strength..." It's clearly still not easy for Anette to talk about it. "I was just...thinking about it. And thinking about Daken and I. And I'm not saying I agree but you...you might not have been entirely wrong." Pedro listens quietly as she speaks, and smiles lightly. "It's always difficult to let people get close. Trust is hard to earn and easy to lose. And it means you have to think about someone else's needs, and not just yours." He idly fusses with one of his ears. "I wish Daken had come back to be here for you when you needed him most." Anette grins and shakes her head. "Oh yeah, I'm sure you would have enjoyed seeing us together constantly. I doubt that would have been fun considering your...feelings..." she says, waving her hand vaguely. Another topic that's clearly difficult for her to talk about. "And it's not just him. I mean, I miss him but I don't. I never thought we would last which is why I think I was so hesitant to discuss anything like...like marriage or engagement. But I almost miss having /someone/." She sighs and leans back against the couch, head back and looking up to the ceiling. "As bad as it could get...we had some good moments, too." Pedro shrugs. "What I feel doesn't change the situation. I know it must have hurt." He brings his knees up and wraps his wings around them, resting his chin on them. "What would you do if he walked in the door right now?" Anette lets an amused chuckle and glances towards the door as if expecting him to walk in on cue. "Right now? Probably punch him in the face. I'm sure he'd want to talk but I don't think I could. I don't think I could even look at him right now." She gives a faint shrug before turning back to the TV, not so much watching it as looking at it. "As far as Daken and I being together again, I don't think that would happen. But with someone else? Maybe." "Hah, I bet he would be surprised by that. But... never say never, yeah?" Pedro looks to her, grinning. "Going to hook up with Killian then? See how that works out and stuff?" He glances at the TV then, engrossed for a few moments in the product being hawked. "Is he up for that, do you know?" "I think I can safely say never in this particular case. And surprised by what, me punching him in the face? That...happened more often than you'd think." Anette looks over to Pedro as he suggests Killian, raising a brow. "I said /maybe/. And I doubt he'd want anything. I still don't know what I want. I'm just...entertaining the idea that I might have been wrong." "Well, that takes guts to do, admit that you may be wrong." Pedro stands then, and walks into the kitchen, his claws making little clicking sounds on the ground. "Do you feel like having some coffee? I'm going to have some, myself." He leans against the counter, setting up the coffee machine. "Now that New York has begun to come back to life, maybe we could go out to a club or something, yeah?" "Yeah, some coffee would be nice," Anette mumbles, slowly rising and following Pedro to the kitchen. "Some bar or club hopping would be fun. If only to get you out there." She jumps up on the counter, her blanket still wrapped around her shoulders. "You know, I was actually just went to see an old friend. A cute one, too. I think you'd like him." Pedro sets out two mugs, peering at the machine as it gurgles to life. "I would enjoy that. Hopefully there are some places you know of that don't mind mutants." He blinks as she hops up onto the counter, his ears rising up when she mentions a cute friend. "Oh? What's he like? What's his name?" "His name is Teague. He's one of us, not living on the island though. And he can create diamonds." Anette looks up and down Pedro with a playful grin. "In case you ever want to bedazzle those wings of yours." She glances towards the machine, impatiently waiting for the coffee. "Oh, and he does ballet. Haven't seen him but I've heard he's actually pretty good." Pedro raises an eyebrow, and chuckles. "Does he go by the name Jewel, by any chance? I have run into a mutant who can create diamonds. Pretty guy, with long white hair?" He raises a wing, looking at it, the colours done by Tag having faded to the bat's natural colours. "I could use something new. A piercing maybe?" "Yeah, Jewel," Anette says, nodding her head. "Exactly, he's adorable. And single." This last bit is said with a playful wink. She looks over Pedro's wings thoughtfully. "Maybe not piercings. A bit...permanent. And I don't know how anything physical would affect your ability to fly. At the very least, it would be an absolute shame to poke a hole in those wings." Pedro smiles at her wink and busies himself pouring coffee when the machine beeps. "I don't know. Think he likes uhm... obvious mutants? Like, I mean, I do look pretty uh batlike. Might throw him off a bit, maybe? Did you uhm mention me to him?" He nudges a mug in Anette's direction. "I don't know how permanent holes would work out either. But only one way to find out, I suppose. Maybe something from Tag again, but a bit less dramatic?" Anette hops off the counter and begins pouring herself a mug. "I mean, I mentioned that you were my roommate and that we, um, had some fun but I haven't really mentioned anything more to him yet." She drops a couple splashes of cream in her cup before drinking. "I don't know what kind of mutants he likes or doesn't like but as you said, only one way to find out, right? And I think some fresh art from Tag would look nice." Pedro looks to her a moment, "What do you suggest I get, on my wings?" He holds them both out, for her to see. "What would look nice? Tag is an excellent artist, I am sure he would be able to draw anything you could think of." He takes a slurp of coffee from his mug, and turns to lean against the counter again. "Did you mention my name? Did he react well?" "The last thing you want from me is advice on art," Anette says with a chuckle, slowly but steadily sipping at her coffee. As Pedro begins asking about Teague's reaction, she presses her lips together, glancing off to the side. "He...well, he knew who you were. And he didn't say anything bad." The fact he didn't say much at all goes unmentioned. Pedro hmms and nods, taking another sip of his coffee. "Well, then I suppose that's a start and not a bad one." He rubs at one of his ears a moment, before looking up at it. "Hey, maybe an ear piercing? That won't wreck my flight characteristics. And I doubt you are as bad at art advice as I am." "Well, if you're looking to impress someone else, perhaps you could get something related to...Swan Lake maybe?" Anette says, her eyes sparkling as she continues to play matchmaker. "An ear piercing. That could work." Pedro peers at Anette with raised eyebrows. "Swan Lake? Is uh is that a ballet or something? Does Jewel like them? Oh, dancer. You meant ballet?" He rubs that ear again self-consciously. "I don't know anything about it. Would you help me look for something then? Uh, assuming he and I even get a first date, I mean." Anette grins and nods. "Calm down. Yeah, let's wait and see if you even get a date to begin with. And yeah, it's a ballet. If it were still Christmas, I'd suggest the Nutcracker." She looks over Pedro, her eyes smiling even as she sips at her coffee cup. "Don't worry, even if this doesn't work out, we'll find you someone." Pedro nods to her. "I have heard of the Nutcracker though. And I'm not worried. Just lonely. And a little antsy." He takes a long sip of coffee then, and heads back to the couch, settling down with a sigh. "I am going to be sore in the morning, I think. You going to be okay with your hangover?" "Yeah, I'll be fine. Nothing I haven't dealt with before." Anette watches Pedro make his way back to the couch. "You know, if you're up for it, we could make up for the lack of New Years kisses with something else..." she teases, tilting the mug of her coffee back and finishing it off. The batlike ears perk straight up, and he looks over to her. "Twist my arm, why don't you?", he says with a grin. Pedro starts to stand and pauses. "You were serious, yes?" Anette gives a light shrug before nodding. "Yeah, I was. I've got nothing better to do and it's been a while." She leaves the kitchen and makes her way to Pedro, kissing him sweetly. "Besides, I've got to train you before I send you off on any dates." |
