Ghost, Kelly

In Absentia

2013-11-27

Ghost's meditation is interrupted by sweets, compliments, and plant boys.

Location

<XS> Back Porch

The back patio is a restful place to sit and relax, in most weather. Ample seating comes in the form of umbrella'd deck chairs and a cushioned porch swing, and the neighboring gardens attract butterflies and hummingbirds to make the viewing pleasant. The hot tub is usually open for use, though in snowy weather the transition in and out is a shivery one!

Outside today, it's cold and the ground is a bit damp, but the raining has stopped for now. At the moment, the porch is empty except for the barefoot purple skinned girl who is sitting against the wall, halfway up it, one hand holding a book and the other firmly planted against the wall like her feet. Ghost is clad in a shirt and jacket and a pair of jeans, her press fedora lying on one of the tables next to a plate of sufganiyah, one of which Ghost is currently holding in her mouth, eating slowly. She is currently reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, and as she turns the page, she carefully juggles the book and herself, slightly clumsily, as to not fall.

Kelly has bundled up into a thick jacket as he opens the door and comes outside, also barefoot, the bark on his feet sprouting a few leaves and now one little pink flower on his left foot near his big toe. He has to do a double take when his eyes turn towards Ghost, though, his hand coming up to rub his eyes to make sure he hadn't quite missed the chair... but nope, he didn't. Lowering his hood, his floral filled hair catches some of the overcast sunlight, and he risks a wave to the purple girl. "Hey'ya... that... doesn't look comfortable." He ventures. "Is it?"

Thwoosh! As Kelly walks out, Ghost leaps off the wall, landing on her feet, taking the piece of suganiyah out of her mouth with her now free hand. "Not particularly. Just testing the extent of my abilities. I stick to walls.". Ghost replies bluntly taking a bite of the pastry. She doesn't wait to finish her mouthful to speak. "Didn't expect anyone to come out here, with how cold and wet it is. Except the ice or water people, I mean.". She grabs a chair at the table where the plate of pastries is, and points to it. "Want one? It's sufganiyah. Basically a custard filled donut with powdered sugar. It's chanukah, so I've been eating quite a few of these.".

"Gosh, didn't mean to startle ya!" Kelly says when the girl come down, stepping back a few steps. "I just needed some fresh air and a little sun, and uhm... something else." The fresh air and sun he's less embarrassed about, the 'something else', however, gets him a little bashful. But bashfulness isn't anything that an offer of snacks can't cure! And his face lights up at the sweet as his stomach rumbles. "Oh gosh, /thank you/, yes. I am just glad we're getting real food again." You know, 'real' food, like junk food, pizza, doughnuts, as opposed to all that 'fake' food of fresh vegies and fresh hunted meat they had to do with. "And Happy Chanukah," he added at last, with the food risen glee in his southern voice. "I'm Kelly, by the way."

"They call me Ghost. Got it for sneaking out of the cells once, huge mistake.". Ghost replies, before pausing. "I mean..uh, not that there's cells here. I uh..meant something completely different. Also, there's pretty much not that much sun out here, so I think you're going to be out of luck.". She takes a look at him, glancing around. "Yeah, the meals they had were shit. Things are back to normal mostly, though.". She finishes her sufganiyah, not waiting even a second before she is reaching for another. "These things are the best.".

"Place sure seems like a cage lately." Kelly says, though in a lighter tone than if he actually meant it. "Not that you would want to break out with what was in the town outside..." The sweet doesn't last a moment before Kelly has proven exactly what a chubby teenager can do to such a thing in record time. "Ghost is a pretty cool name, though." He decides as he walks to the edge of the porch, looking down at the dirt and grass. "IS it hard to stick to the walls for ya? I mean, could you hang upside down and stuff? Guess that wouldn't be any more comfy, though."

"Trust me, the school is much nicer than where I used to be. Was holed up in this lab where they ran experiments on me and other mutants. I'm glad to be here.". Ghost says grimly, as she chews on her pastry. "Oh, sticking to walls is easy, multitasking whilst doing it's the hard part. And yeah, I can climb ceilings. I'll show you.". Without even waiting for a response, she's finishing her pastry as she runs towards the wall, leaping straight onto it. Her hands and feet stick to the wall easily, as she begins scaling it, before climbing up to the awning/alcove and hanging from it, upside down. Her long brown hair falls down due to gravity, as she speaks. "But, that is the reason I don't do it often.".

Kelly barely suppress a giggle as he watches, but he gives her a thumbs up when its finished. "Alright, that is cool, but I can see why you might wanna consider putting it in a bun or something before you do it a lot." The mention of the facilities again gets Kelly's good mood down a few pegs. "I'm glad they got you out'ta there, I hate those places. I can't believe they'd do that to you, but... I guess I'm having to believe a lot of stuff lately."

Thwoosh! Ghost leaps back down, landing in a crouch, groaning in pain. "Okay, that landing was a bit harder. Yeah, a bun could solve most of my issues, but meh, I don't usually plan for it. Unless I'm eavesdropping, being on the roof for that is pretty useful.". She pauses, nervous. "Uh, I mean. Uh...I'm on the Newspaper Club, so..yeah. Also I like to spy on people, I guess. It's fun. Especially when I drop down behind them.". She grins, but this becomes grim as she replies about the facility. "I'd have to thank Mr. Holland for that, mainly, along with the other people who helped get us out of there. But, yeah, I had to adjust too when I learned what I was. It was difficult.".

"Mr. Holland, huh?" Kelly says, sighing and shaking his head. "Some sort of saint here, it seems. I'm kinda new myself. Not from... any of those places. They brought me in off the streets just before this mess broke out. But... considering how jumpy some of the kids are... and that some of them can make things explode... jumping behind them after the zombie thing might not be the smartest idea." Kelly steps down one of the porch steps, just to sit down on it and let his feet touch the ground. "I didn't even know we had a newspaper, though? Guess you've got a lot to write about now, huh?"

"Yeah, he's great. And my advisor, too. He's done so much around here for everyone, really.". Ghost sighs, brushing her hair back. "I was on the streets as well, but sadly the school wasn't the one to find me, as I previously stated.". Ghost then laughs a little. "If someone blew me up, I'd kill them.". She snarks over to Kelly, as she contemplates another pastry. "Yup. I'm a reporter, and, yeah, a ton of shit to write about. But sometimes I feel like I'm the only one there who cares. You said you're new? Maybe you should join the club. They're pretty cool there, I guess.".

"Not sure you'd like anything I had to write." Kelly says with a bit of a blush, then he looks down at the grass and asks... "Mind if I... stick around a bit?" But the thought of the paper catches his brain somewhat. "There are a lot of clubs here, but I guess I didn't expect a news paper... is it with the school or somewhere else? I mean, since this place is a secret... I guess the readership of the paper would be on the tiny side."

"Heh, they put up with me in there. Then again, most of my story ideas get rejected, so, you'd probably do better than me.". Ghost reaches for her hat on the table, a fedora with one of those PRESS notes tucked inside, and shows it to Kelly. "This, is my badge of pressdom. I wear it with utmost esteem. But, sadly, can't get any of the other club members to wear them. They think I'm weird or something.". She laughs a small bit, as she gets out of the chair, sitting near Kelly. "Yeah, you can stick around. You're actually pretty cool.". She smiles, before it turns into a glare. "Our newspaper is the best newspaper of all newspapers ever. We don't have much readership, no, but, it's the thought and effort that counts! And, I want to be an actual journalist someday anyways, so, it's good practice.".

"Well, its probably going to be the most honest paper ever written. With all the stuff you can learn through the gossip train here." Kelly decides, his laugh coming out gently as he pushes his feet flat against the grass. "If this is... too gross, I can take off, do it somewhere else." He explains as some roots snake out from his bark patches on his feet and begin to dig into the dirt itself. "I think the hat's a nice touch, though. I mean, doesn't every reporter wanna be a newsie from the 50's? That's sorta the idea, right? Just like every archeologist wants to be Indiana Jones... or whoever the Jurassic Park guy was."

"I actually spread most of the gossip, true story.". Ghost laughs, though it's hard to tell if she's overexaggerating or not, based on the expression on her face. She looks at what Kelly is doing, but doesn't actually make any reaction based on it. "Haha, it's fine. Not the weirdest thing around here, trust me.". She looks over the area, and actually begins wrinkling her nose, sniffing. "Don't you like the smell after it rains? It just smells so earthy.". She stretches her arms back before putting her hat on. "Oh, totally, I'd love to be a newsie. They were the coolest. Though I'm pretty sure no archeologist will really ever be like Indiana Jones, and I have no idea who the Jurassic Park dude is. I don't watch many movies and what I do watch is usually noir.".

Kelly almost seems to melt into relaxation now that he's got his roots down. "Yeah, its really nice. A good way to relax and stuff. And... it makes it easier on me, too..." Kelly answers bashfully looking down. "I know that it shouldn't bother me, its just... like... the /least/ human thing I do, I think. Still haven't got the whole we're all normal in our own way vibe down here yet, but... I'm working on it. Like, I totally think purple is cute on you, for instance." He adds with an amused voice... but... he probably meant it, right?

Ghost laughs again, smiling. "It took me a while to get used to being able to climb walls and smell everything and hear everything. Now I embrace it.". She sniffs the air again, before continuing. "Oh, I'm totally not normal even in my own way, ahaha.". She laughs again, but Kelly's next comment makes her blush. She finds herself at a loss for words. "I...uh...um..ah..stop it you're making me lose my train of thought.". She laughs again, still blushing, but also nervous. Ghost nervously changes her tone. "I'm totally not the only purple student here though, I've seen other people stealing my style."

"Well, you better get used to it, how are you gonna be a hard hitting reporter when someone who isn't a chubby pile of leaves and thorns tells ya you're cute in order to dodge a question?" Kelly teased, but his tone stayed on the light side of things, leaning back. "But if you smell everything? Yikes, must be hard living here, then!"

"Probably going to punch them in the face, face a year in jail, you know, reporter stuff. Wait, no, it's the celebrities who punch the reporters, my bad.". Ghost laughs, brushing her hair back again, as she continues to smell the air. "I don't actually smell /everything/. According to the people at that lab, my smell's more like that of a dog, I have more smell receptors than a normal person or something. My hearing's similar I guess, most things don't get past me.". She teases with her last line, as she stands up. "I, uh, actually have to go. Still have an article I'm working on, came out here to take a break. Really nice meeting you, though, Kelly.".
