Anette and Pedro

2015-11-16

It begins with barfing and ends with party planning (Zombie flu!)

Location

<BOM> The Spatters - Ascension Island

A bright fire burns in the fireplace today, filling the main room with warmth. The curtains have been drawn closed, and the smell of coffee spreads from the kitchen. Sitting sullenly on the ledge of the fireplace is Pedro, clad in only a pair of blue jeans. A bandage covers his right cheek, and another covers a large section of his left shoulder. Still another bandage covers a section of a wing. He taps away at a small tablet, grumbling occasionally at it.

Anette stumbles out of the bathroom, the greenish tinge in face giving away what she likely had been doing if the bucket she's tightly clutching to her chest doesn't. She sniffs at the air as the smell of coffee permeates her senses and groans loudly though rather than leave, she makes her way over to the fireplace in drops into a chair in front of it. She gives half a wave to Pedro and leans back with a wince. Fresh bandages currently cover her throat, chin, and right shoulder and leg.

Pedro grins to her, returning the wave. He stands and moves to the couch, picking up the pad of paper used for communications. 'We are all the walking wounded in a world that is a war zone. Everything we love will be taken from us, everything, last of all life itself. Yet everywhere I look, I find great beauty in this battlefield, and grace and the promise of joy.', he writes out.

Anette stares at the...poem or whatever it is, for a good few minutes, no expression on her face. Suddenly, she takes the paper and scribbles her own message and holds it up. 'It's your turn to clean the bathroom.' Someone's not in the mood for flowery thoughts.

Pedro frowns at her reply, and looks away for a few minutes. He looks back and starts writing. 'Been cleaning it since you've been sick. But whatever. You just get better.' He stands and stalks into the bathroom, returning after several minutes, the smell of cleaning agents wafting out behind him. The young man looks a bit pale now.

Anette frowns as Pedro walks off but before she can say anything, she suddenly sticks her head into her bucket and...well, you get the idea. Once Pedro returns, she holds up her pre-written message. 'You didn't have to do it NOW. Sorry, it's this cure making me miserable. Don't even know if it's worked yet.'

Pedro settles onto the armrest next to her, taking up the pad once more. 'May as well. Not like I was doing anything else.' He sets the pad in her lap and crosses his arms, looking over at the fire.

'Were you the one who cleaned here after...?' Anette writes, holding the pad for him to read before writing another message. 'You have the patience of a saint.' Anette hands him the pad before pulling her bathrobe tighter about her, staring into the warmth of the fire.

Pedro nods slowly, his ears flattened to his head. He smiles faintly and writes. 'Yeah. Waited to get patched up after you two were seen to. Then started cleaning. I made a horrible mess.' The young man rubs at the bandage on his shoulder. 'Somehow I remain uninfected. Luck of the devil, or maybe I am immune. Probably the former.'

Anette grimaces as he relates his story. 'Lucky. You don't want this. I don't even remember what happened. Just suddenly looked up and everyone was bleeding. Terrifying.' She sighs and closes her eyes, suddenly looking pained. 'I hope Killian is ok.'

'I don't want it, you're right. I don't know what happened, I heard you screeching and some snarling. So I called down some wind and waded in. You guys really took the piss out of each other. And Killian managed to get me.' He points at the bandage on his shoulder. 'Whole world is going crazy.' The batty one wraps his arms about him, pulling his wings in close.

'Thank god you showed up. Pretty sure Killian would've killed me if you hadn't,' Anette writes. She looks over towards Pedro, frowning as she looks over the bandage. 'How bad is it?'

Pedro shrugs and then grimaces. 'He didn't break my collar bone, at least, and didn't get any muscles or tendons. But he gouged me pretty good. A whole bunch of stitches. It hurts, but it'll heal. In the end, what's a bit of blood between friends?' He chuckles and grins. 'You two were far worse off, considering you're both sick on top of shredding each other.'

Anette offers a weak smile as she reads his description of his wound. 'Broken bones are a bitch. At least it'll heal.' The second part gets a much darker expression from her. 'I'm tired of hurting people I care about. I want to be cured. I feel so alone.'

Pedro reaches out a wing, and gently brushes her closest shoulder. 'You're not alone. Even when you are lost, someone's here looking out for you.' He grins brightly at her. 'I guess that means you actually care about me. Which forgives the cheek scars I'm going to have.' The young man lets out a breath. 'I can only imagine how horrible New York is right now. They're quarantined.

Anette can't help but audibly laugh. 'You think you have it bad? Killian apparently tried to literally eat my shoulder!' Sure enough, this entire time, while she's been writing with her right hand, her arm has been oddly stiff, unable to move from the elbow up. 'The greater area. We're under that. Well, we would be if they knew we existed.' She leans slightly against Pedro's wing as he brings it around her. 'Once again, you're here but you shouldn't be. I'm not cured yet. I can still snap. That's why I'm lonely.'

Pedro does his best to look a little bashful. 'No, I know, I'm not that badly off. But keep in mind, trying to separate you two without hurting you? Without blowing down the cabin? That's hard.' He looks away a for a bit. 'I ain't leaving someone to die alone.'

Anette gives a gentle nod. 'You did a good job. It could have gone a lot worse.' She takes a deep breath at the last sentence, pausing a moment before continuing her writing. 'I always figured I'd die alone.' As she passes the pad off to Pedro, she casts a brief but noticable look towards the door besides hers, Daken's, and her overall expression saddens.

Pedro eyes her glance to the door, and his wing reaches out again to squeeze a bit more firmly. 'He's off on a mission? I hope he's safely out of the way of this plague. There's that much, at least, to cheer you?' He sighs lightly. 'He'll be okay. You'll see him again.'

Anette lets out a quiet sigh, picking up the pad of paper and writing slowly. 'Don't know. Usually is when he disappears. You'd think he'd tell me. The plague is everywhere. If he were here, I'd know if he was sick. He's never been gone this long.' Oddly enough, she doesn't seem to mind Pedro's wing wrapped about her.

Pedro applies a gentle squeeze once more. 'It may be a difficult mission, right? He might be on the other side of the world or something. I know it is worrisome because he's been gone a while. You have to trust him, just as he has to trust that you'll be here waiting.'

Anette frowns slightly at that last line. 'It would be a lot easier if I were sure about that one. I tend to make mistakes when I'm upset. Plus the flu.' She forces a thin smile on her face. 'So how are you, otherwise?'

Pedro grins to her then. 'Then he is lucky to be away. You cannot hurt him and he cannot hurt you. You can vent your anger and upset on me.' He shrugs and chuckles. 'I'm surviving, I guess. Heard from Killian about this fight club thing, wondering how to get into that. I uhm need to learn how to fight. I am practicing kickboxing, but there's practice and then there's actual fighting experience, you know?'

Anette grits her teeth and breathes in deeply, as if surpressing a wave of emotions. 'No, I need him here,' she manages to scribble down before pausing to keep her rage under check. Once she recovers, she picks up the pen again. 'Fight club is good. Brutal but they'll go easy when you're a beginner. Expect blood.'

'I wish I could say something that would ease your pain and upset.', he writes, looking sad as he does so. 'You're the strongest person I know, Anette. If anyone can get through this, you can.' He conveniently leaves out the fact that he doesn't know a whole lot of people. 'As for fight club. How do I get in? Who do I gotta talk to?'

Anette can't help but smile at the kind words. 'I'm trying. Fight club is easy. Regan will vouch for you. It's held in the basement of the safehouse on the Lower East Side.' She looks up to Pedro and smiles faintly. 'You're a good friend.'

'You're doing well, despite the circumstances. Killian too. I feel bad that I had to knock him against the kitchen island, but you snapped out of it with cold water. Keep that in mind if you see other people succumbing to the anger.' He pauses to give another squeeze before pulling his wing away gently. 'No need to get hurt if you can avoid it, right?' Pedro lets out a small breath. 'I am glad that my powers don't hurt much by default. And at least now I have some ideas to work with. So. Just remember that you're awesome, and you have people that care for you. Focus on that, and keep the anger at bay. And the cure'll work it's magic. Then we can have the world's wildest house party, yeah?'

'Well, I ended up getting him shot. Long story. Seems he doesn't have much luck with friends.' Anette taps the pen on the paper in though for a few moments. 'I've heard rumors. New evolution of the plague. Cure may or may not work. Might just be rumors. I'm sure you're right. Biggest house party ever, so much booze and music. Everyone will be invited.' This actually seems to bring a genuine grin to Anette's face.

'That's the spirit. I'm going to get you so drunk.' Pedro laughs. 'Though, honestly, I should make you stay sober, and I should get roaring drunk. So you can clean up some puke for once.' He laughs a bit longer, and gently nudges her with a wing. 'Teasing of course. We're both going to get drunk, and have to clean up the puke the next day.'

'Haha, not chance! :D' Anette writes next to the comment about her not getting drunk, complete with smiley-face. 'It's going to be the most epic of house parties. First I have to stop dying though.'

Pedro laughs while holding his sides. 'Ow. Hurts but worth it.' He sobers up a little and nods. 'If you need anything, just ask. Anything. I won't abandon you. I can go to my room now, if you want to have some peace. Gonna uhm. Nap, I guess.'

Anette looks up to Pedro and nods slightly. 'A nap sounds good. Maybe I can sleep through the entire cure process.' She glances down towards the used bucket that's been sitting beside them the entire time. 'Maybe get some cleaning done myself.'
