Kole and Simon

<NYC> Lower East Side

Historically characterized by crime and immigrant families crammed into cramped tenement buildings, the Lower East Side is often identified with its working-class roots. Today, it plays host to many of New York's mutant poor, although even here they are still often forced into hiding.

It's on the warmer side this evening in New York and that's prompted a few people not suffering from a Autumn cold to come out and enjoy the night. Simon, still not entirely used to the city, is out getting a few things done for his new 'family'. Dressed in slacks and button up shirt under a light jacket, he's a canvas bag hanging from one hand as he checks some written directions. He'd been told that there was a very good coffee shop in the area and wanted to step in for a cup before heading back to the island. "Now which way," he murmurs to himself, stopping on a corner and peering up at the street sign.

Jogging at a decent pace, Kole is wearing a hooded sweat shirt with the sleeves tastefully torn off. Head facing down, hood pulled all the way up, Ipod cords running from his ears he is completely not paying attention as he turns a corner. The next thing he knows he sees a pair of legs covered in slacks, right in his path, and is trying to throw the breaks on before he collides with the person. "Oh, shit!," doing a quick stutter step he slows down as much as he can, but clearly not enough. If they're paying attention they might just avoid him.

Unfortunately for Simon, he's not paying attention. He looks down in time to see the hooded man coming at him but its too late to move out of the way. With a startled and slightly pained noisem, he's crashed into and they both go down. Simon drops his bag, some tea bags spilling out but the majority of the contents remainging inside thankfully. "Ow..."

Rolling quickly to his side and ending in a crouch, he makes a grab for the bag (misses), tries to keep the guy from hitting the ground too hard (misses again), and after a second he removes his headphones, "Jesus, sorry dude. Pantera. You alright? Please don't sue!" As he stands he is scooping the tea back into the bag and offering his other hand to help the man up. "My fault, really wasn't paying attention," he says as he is distinctly missing his signature grin.

"Pantera?" Simon repeats, confused for a moment. He reaches up to run a hand through his hair, frowning a little as he looks up at Kole. He accepts the hand up after a moment consideration aand then takes his bag back with a murmured thanks. "It is okay," he says, shaking his head. "I believe I'm alright," he says, looking into his bag to make sure everything is okay. "I didn't even see where you came from."

Letting his breath out in a relieved burst he claps the man on the shoulder, faint ripples in the air faintly visible from the collision surround most of his body. Nodding quickly Kole simply states, "Yeah Pantera, 90's metal music. Y'know: Walk, Cemetary Gates, Cowboys from Hell. Great band, good for workouts." Shrugging Kole points around the corner, "Was just finishing up a run, took the corner too quick. I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt."

The ripples have Simon's attention for a moment and he glances curiously from them to Kole. He manages a small smile as Kole explains the band, shaking his head. "Ah...I am sorry but I don't think I have heard of them. I don't know a lot of metal music," he replies. "Were you hurt?"

The grin of signature lopsidedness makes a return as Kole looks Simon over, "Nah, stuff like that doesn't hurt. You should totally give them a listen. If they don't make your ears bleed you'll love them." Looking around for a second Kole looks a little embarassed, "I really am sorry. I live near here so if you're ever in the area I'd totally be willing to make up for running you over," Holding out his hand he tilts his head to the side as he pulls his hood down, "My names Kole by the way."

"You crash into enough people to figure that out?" Simon asks with a little smile of his own. "Ah...I will look them up when I get back home," he's not sure if he will but Simon will at least think about it. His brows arch up and cheeks color slightly as Kole makes his offer, Simon wondering if he's being flirted with. He shakes the offered hand carefully, smiling despite his faint blush. "My name is Simon."

Chuckling slightly he shakes his head, "Nah, I've just never really been hurt by stuff like that. Call it dumb luck." Noticing the blush his grin widens, "Well it's a pleasure to meet you despite the circumstances." With a beep Kole's phone starts to ring, playing the chorus to Lady Marmalade. Checking the caller ID he goes to accept the call by pressing the button on the touch screen, with a 'Whumph' sound a quick ripple spreads from his fingertip shattering the phone. Looking up to Simon, "Uh. . .oops," trying to judge the mans reaction he removes a memory card from the wreckage of the phone before sliding whats left of the broken device into his sweatshirts pocket and the memory card going into his pants pocket.

This song Simon recognizes and smiles just a little wider, remembering watching the movie before things went so south for him. His reaction is one of surprise at the strange sound and destruction of the phone. He looks around nervously before speaking in a more hushed tone. "You are a mutant?" he asks, just to be sure. "Is that why the collision did not hurt?"

Looking startled at the questions Kole's eyes dart around to see if anyone had the chance to over hear, "Uh. . .well. . .I mean. . .it's just stuff you know. Dumb luck, yeah?," He says trying to explain it away as he ducks his head a little and pulls his hood up. "Uh. . .so what if I was. Not like it means anything."

"It is alright," Simon speaks up, lifting his hand to try and calm an nervousness. "It means I should have tried a little hard to prevent being run over," he admits sheepishly.

Shrugging a bit Kole nods to the other man visibly relaxing, "Like I said, my fault. No way you could have avoided it. It just happens sometimes you know?" He gestures with his other hand, "It's tough being different sometimes. Anyway, I've probably held you up long enough, yeah?"

Simon just nods, not pressing the issue. "I know. Being like us does present many...difficulties," he sighs. When Kole mentions the time, Simon blinks. "Oh, I'd almost forgotten. It was a pleasure to meet you even if running into you was not," he says, stepping aside so Kole can pass if he wants.

Digging into his pocket quickly he pulls out a crumpled up business card, and passes it to the man as he goes to pass. Not taking the hint at the 'Being like us' comment he starts to move around him. "Well if you're ever around feel free to give me a call. Was cool speaking with someone who didn't jump down my throat," he gives a little off hand wave as he shoves his hands into he pocket of his sweat shirt and doesn't exactly run or walk but hurries as he moves on his way.
