<XS> Treehouse

Built by enterprising students of yesteryear, this treehouse has weathered generations of Xaviers' students coming up here to study -- or escape from studying. A cozy retreat, its wood planks are sturdy and well-sanded, fit snug together to keep out draft. Snacks occasionally find their way up here, and the roof keeps the rain off well enough to pass a night -- so long as the teachers don't catch any students at it. For anyone agile enough to make the jump, a lucky leap juuust might carry them from here to the school rooftop, so long as they're careful of the drop...

The night has fallen over Xavier's School. The autumn air holds a particular sharp crispness to it that has kept most of the mansion's inhabitants within the warm walls of the manse proper. Of course, away from what seems like ever present eyes is just what Dylan was looking for, and hoping that he might find it here, he has slipped out onto the grounds and up into the secluded treehouse. Unfortunately for him, his particular set of gifts has nothing to do with ignoring the cold, so he's bundled up in an old, well-worn army field jacket, which is only in slightly better conditition than the rest of the clothing that he's wearing. Situated away from the entrance or any windows, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a slightly crumpled pack of cigarettes and a zippo lighter that has seen better days. A celtic knot covers the outside of the silvered lighter. He flicks it closed before taking a deep drag. He shakes his head, sending a cascade of bright hair into his eyes, as he speaks to himself, "Man, this healthy living crap is gonna kill me."

Hailey just seems to appear from nowhere, as if she'd been ther the whole time. She reaches over to grab a comic and flops rather unceremoniously onto a nearby bean bag. "Careful, the goodies might snitch you for smoking." She smirks as she flips a thumb through the first few pages of the comic. It wasn't odd at all for Hailey to be about. She was pretty much nocturnal, preferring the night and shadow for everything she did. Her time at Xaviers had changed her from an incidental user of her abilities to a person who frequently used them as a part of her daily life, to the point where she had even mapped the campus for the best shadows and distances she could travel.

Okay, so he's a mutant himself. His roommate is a tooth sharkboy with an attitude, but that does not mean that Dylan is used to people just bamfing into existence. His reaction is that of any sane person. He jumps like someone had, well, just suddenly appeared beside him. The cigarette tumbles from his fingers, only to be caught with quick, but nothing abnormally quick, reactions. "Where the hell did you come from?"

Hailey smirks. "My room, New York, Upstate...why?" she chuckles a little bit before looking at him. "Oh here? Well.." she quickly melts into the shadow beneath her before sliding out next to him. "I just did that."

Dylan arches an eyebrow before taking another drag from the cigarette. "Wow, so, I take it everyone here is a wise-ass?" The corners of his lips turn upwards in a bit of a grin, "Though I guess I can see where that can be pretty damn useful." He has a very, very clear Northern Jersey accent.

Hailey shrugs "I take it everyone where you are is." She slides back through the shadows and ends up back at her bean bag to put up her heavy combat boots to get comfortable. "So what's your deal? Super smart? ice beams? Dracula?"

Dylan reaches up and combs his fingers through his hair, "Well, I have been told that I am utterly charming with an irresistible smile, but no... Not smart, super or otherwise, no beams ice or otherwise... and I have no problem with crosses or garlic." He shrugs ever-so-slightly, "I maybe make things happen... kinda hard to describe... You could say that I'm really lucky... sometimes good luck, sometimes bad luck... and I can either bless or jinx someone if I try."

Hailey snickers a little bit. "Man talk about a gyp power." she thumbs back through her comic. "I got a few things but light bothers the hell out of me, and messes my powers up. I can make some junk, I can do what you saw. I might be able to do some more stuff but I don't really know. Just been making what I know better.

Dylan grins, "Yeah, well, it does have it's downside. Half the time, I have no clue if something happens because of me or just because I am just reading into it. I try not to think about it too much, 'cause I used to second guess absolutely everything... " An impish grin eases across his lips, "So, you got a catchy codename, like Elvira - Mistress of the Dark or do you just got a name that I can call you?" He pauses, "I'm Dylan, by the way, no catchy codename..."

Hailey rolls her eyes "I'm not an X-Man yet, So Hailey." She thumbs over another page before nodding a moment. "So why are you here? Just for the education or for the whole. "Hey I have special powers so I might as well learn how to use em?" "

Dylan smirks and takes another drag. "Actually more like I'm here because I was given the option of coming here or going to juvie for um... let's just say I...." He makes air quotes with his fingers, "found a couple of wallets on the sidewalk and was caught with them in my pocket before I could return them to their rightful owners." He shrugs slightly, "So, I'm here... and figure I'd make the best of it, while it lasts."

Hailey rolls her eyes. "Wow, ain't that an exciting tale. Man you must suck if you got caught, I used to pickpocket and slip junk for a living. WITHOUT my powers." She smirks before stretching out. "So did you get a curfew extension too?"

"I'm plenty good, thank you very much." Indignation oozes from his voice. A scowl forms on Dylan's expression. "Like I said... I'm lucky... good luck and bad luck. A wallet somehow fell out of my pocket, when it shouldn't have, in front of a cop... got me busted, which got me here... Not sure if that was lucky or unlucky, but it's what it is." He shakes his head, "Nah, just lost track of time... "

Hailey rolls her eyes. "Dude, that power....it sucks rocks." She snickers a little before nodding. "Be careful, lots of psychics around, they can find ya if you're skipping curfew or whatever." She grins and tosses the comic aside to just relax, looking at the roof of the treehouse.

Dylan smirks, "Yeah, like I said, I try not to think about it too much... Really, I'm just waiting for my eighteenth birthday, then I plan on hitting every casino from Atlantic City to Las Vegas in that month's grace period before you're supposed to register with the government. Hopefully, I can win enough to never have to worry about nuthin' ever again." He nods slightly, "Yeah, just needed some fresh air." He flicks the ash from the end of the cigarette, "So to speak... and got lost in my thoughts... I don't got a watch, so I'm not even sure what time it is, right now... So as far as I know, I haven't broken curfew yet."

Hailey snickers a little bit. "With your power I'm sure you wouldn't even have to do register. They'd look at ya and go. "Oooo~ Someones extra lucky. Then laugh like hell and tell ya to get out." She rolls her shoulders a bit before throwing a shadow made dart at the cigarette, missing it by an inch which she gives a little Tsk to.

Dylan nods, "True 'nough. I could probably get away with sayin' that I didn't know that I had any kind of power, if I did get caught... I mean if it weren't for things like that I can't remember the last time I didn't call a coin toss correctly or dice always fall the way I want them too, I might not even believe that I do have any power... But then I wish someone would trip and fall, and then they do... could be coincidence, but when coincidence becomes common, probably not. You know what I mean?" As the dart flies past his hand, he jerks it back. "Hey, now, Elvira... you want me to put it out, you just gotta ask..." He flashes a smile, "But only for you...."

Hailey rolls her eyes. "Not interested, in the name, or the flirting." She chuckles and stands up, adjusting her jacket. "I'm gonna go, this is getting boring and I got more mayhem to do, just don't get caught." She yawns and jumps out of the treehouse, a favorite activity to phase through when she hits the ground to not take the impact.

Dylan watches Hailey disappear, literally, before his very eyes. He shakes his head, "Damn, bet that could be damn useful..." He chuckles softly to himself before he heads to the ground himself, in a much more traditional manner. He puts his hands in his pockets and scrunches the jacket closed as heads across the lawn to return inside.
