Micah, Peter

In Absentia

2014-03-19

Peter asks permission to freeze Spencer. Actually takes place before Shane-call.

Location

Wednesday morning. Micah's phone will start to ring -- it's from Peter.

Micah picks up the phone on the first ring. It's fairly obvious that he has been waiting for a call. "Peter. Are you at the school? Did anyone get any news? They was s'posed t'call me. All they said was they got a ping on the GPS an' Spence's phone was way out Asia somewhere an' there was a team goin' t'retrieve... No one done told me nothin' since an' that was /yesterday/." He sounds beyond haggard.

"--a team?" Peter asks, his own voice -- raspy, kind of croaky. He sounds, at first, puzzled -- and then, a little amused. Amused, but also terrified. "No there was no -- I... M-Mr. Zedner, I need... permission to..." He draws in a hard, long breath: "--I found him. But he's not -- Professor McCoy said I need your permission to freeze -- what we found. So Karrie can... so /someone/ can..."

"Sor--apologies, hon. I didn't mean t'fuss you out. I just...been. Worried half t'death an' Shane's still hurt an' Jax ain't been a whole lotta conscious at all an' Spence been missin'. All they told me was they sent somebody. T'Asia somewhere. Been...spendin' half m'time frettin' over my own folks an' the other half...practicin' nursin' without a license, pretty much. They're overwhelmed here an' can't get people t'come in from other hospitals like most places do an'..." Micah's lack-of-sleep and excess-of-stress ramble finally cuts off when Peter speaks again, only to slide right into another spill of words. "Y'found 'im? Is he /okay/? Is he in the medlab?" He's quiet for a moment, finally. The confusion is nearly audible. "What d'you need t'freeze now?"

"--he's not..." Peter seems to be at a loss for words, once; he pauses for breath, before continuing -- an audible shiver running through his tone: "--no, he's not -- alright. I need your permission to --" He forces the next words out, rough and choked: "--the remains. We need to preserve them as long as possible. So Karrie -- so someone -- can bring him back. But Professor McCoy needs your permission."

The line goes absolutely dead for a moment, as if Micah has hung up. His voice is small and strangled by the time it returns. "He's...remains? But he got /out/. He was in /Asia/ somewhere, for... That's. You can't get much more /away/ than Asia..." There's an odd sound, followed by silence again. "Hank can do whatever he needs t'do. I...wanna be there. Before... Is Aloke or Kurt there? Could they...? I just. He needs. Someone should be there for 'im. Before."

"--it was... the ocean," Peter says. "Aloke is -- I think they need him for transportation, but... Professor Wagner is... I--I can ask. But." And then, much softer, Peter adds: "--he's not--I think--the explosion... got him. He doesn't look..." His breath gets shuddery, for a moment; then: "--I'll ask them."

"Thank you."
