<XS> Treehouse

Built by enterprising students of yesteryear, this treehouse has weathered generations of Xaviers' students coming up here to study -- or escape from studying. A cozy retreat, its wood planks are sturdy and well-sanded, fit snug together to keep out draft. Snacks occasionally find their way up here, and the roof keeps the rain off well enough to pass a night -- so long as the teachers don't catch any students at it. For anyone agile enough to make the jump, a lucky leap juuust might carry them from here to the school rooftop, so long as they're careful of the drop...

With finals in full swing, the atmosphere around the school is a good deal more subdued than usual. No extracurriculars in session, not a whole lot of noisy rowdiness outside of classtime. /Some/, to be sure, but a whole lot of students are choosing to knuckle down and study and later in the night, quiet hours are being enforced with a /vengeance/.

It's not quiet hours /yet/ though, which means there's still /some/ noise around the school building. Which is possibly why B is out here in the treehouse in the pre-dinner hours, tucked into a corner with a pile of schoolbooks and a laptop all spread out to make a tidy little FORT of Learning. The tiny shark-kid is huddled behind all the books, looking phenomenally identical to hir twin brother in the current teeth-bared grimace on hir face. B is dressed brightly today; purple skinny jeans with a black-and-silver studded tank, thick spiked wristcuffs around hir wrists, heavy length of chain worn around hir neck like a choker. At the moment there's a glowing holographic display hovering above hir computer, careful notes from one of hir science classes.

Hailey has been hard at work with finals....not! The shadow girl has been taking her time relaxing, causing havok, and studying when it suited her. She hadn't gotten a good nights sleep in a while so when she slid from the shadows of the corner in the treehouse she made a kind of yawn-thump, noise. The dark teen stretching a little bit as she finds her way to a nice cushy bean bag to flop, crossing her boot clad feet in mid air before letting her head drift back a little bit. "Finally alone time!" She sighs a bit. Not like she couldn't be alone anyways, but the Treehouse was almost like a hide out for her, dark, away from everyone, quiet, comfortable. Hell if it had a mini-fridge, cable, and internet she'd live there...well maybe not.

"Uhh --" B's gills flutter rapidly, hands pausing in midair where ze's apparently been rearranging the holographic imagery simply by touching it as though it were solid and tangible. Hir eyes open huge and wide when Hailey speaks, and ze scrambles to hir feet, cheeks flushed deep dark, nearly purple instead of their usual sheeny blue. "... am I not a. Person, um. I can -- /leave/ you alone, I -- guess." Hir tone is mostly awkward-nervous.

Hailey blinks a little bit and opens her eyes, looking over at B. "Oh, hey, didn't see you there. Nah you were here first so stay if you want. But I'm gonna chill here." She says with a wide stretch, giving a little huff as she looks around. "So... Studying eh?"

B looks extraordinarily unconvinced by this reply, gills still fluttering restlessly; it takes a full minute of surveying hir pile of books and the distance to the exit before evidently deciding that hir discomfort is not worth having to pack up hir /stuff/ and cart it off. "How did you not --" Ze just trails off here, though, slowly and uncertainly sinking back down to sit. Hir eyes dart from Hailey to hir books and back. "... it's finals."

Hailey blinks "Not, what? Oh use the door? I can shadow walk." She yawns a little and looks at her books, putting her hand on the ground as a slender shadowcreeps across the floor, moving over to the books to move them around slightly before the shadow whips back to her. "The powers come in handy." She chuckles a bit and puts her feet up, closing her eyes a bit. "Yeah, Finals suck, I barely ever study for them. Ya know when you cram in knowledge like that it causes you to forget right? And studying for more than half an hour can cause confusion." She nods sagely.

"No, I wasn't asking about your powers," B says with a small shake of hir head, "just how you don't even /notice/ someone in -- nevermind." Hir tone has dropped very /meek/, gills fluttering again quickly. Hir eyes tip up to regard Hailey, enormous and very solemn. "I'll keep your advice in mind if I ever feel the need to change up my routine."

Hailey nods a little and kicks off her heavy boots, looking over to B to show her dark circles and bloodshot eyes. "I haven't been sleeping much, so everything is kinda..... blurry to me. I didn't notice you because no-ones ever here but Wolfy. And she didn't tackle me so I knew she wasn't here."

"There's people here a /lot/," B says with a small wrinkle of hir brow. "Like all the -- have /you/ been studying for more than half an hour?"

Hailey thinks a little bit and counts on her fingers. "Hmmmm Well let's see... I studied for........ ten minutes this week." She grins a little bit as she stretches out her stocking covered feet, letting her striped socks stretch and move with her long legs.

"Woah." B's eyes widen just a little bit. "Getting kind of serious there. Glad I'm a year ahead of you or I'd have to watch my back to stay in the running for valedictorian." Hir eyes drop back to hir books, rearranging them neatly from where Hailey's shadow-tentacle moved them. "I don't think anyone sleeps much this week. I'm going to catch up on /all/ of it once class is out of the way."

Hailey shrugs "I get good scores. As, Bs, Cs." She nods a little bit and stretches up wide, looking around before loweing her hood a moment. "So what are you studying for? WHat's your career gonna be?" She asks curiously, kicking her feet about a little as she yawns. "The finals dont have me sleepy. I just haven't been sleeping right.

"B's -- C's." There's a brief fleeting look of horror on B's face with this, but ze schools it quickly. "What's my -- huh? You don't even usually pick a major till your second year of /college/ and I haven't graduated high school yet." B reaches up to collapse the glowing holo-screen of notes ze's been studying, pulling up a new control panel onscreen and fiddling quickly with that in midair. "I already have work, though. And I like my job. And they pay me good money. So sticking with --" Ze gestures towards the treehouse door, where there's a quiet humming approaching as a cobalt blue metal dragonfly is swooping in past Hailey to perch on B's shoulder. "-- robotics might be pretty cool."

Hailey almost whips the Dragonfly, a tendril coming from her finger before she sees it land on the girl. "Oh it's your toy." She grins a bit before thinking. "I just wanna.... eh I don't know. I'm kinda just doing what I do you know? Traveling around when I can, doing what I can to get where I wanna be." She grins a little bit. "If nothing else I can go back to the streets and be the queen again." She chuckles a little bit.

"Y-y-y-yes. It's my. Toy." B's gills flutter again, hir brows lifting and then lifting higher as Hailey speaks. "The streets. Queen. Oh. Well." There's a long stretch of silence before ze speaks up again, cautiously. "-- Well. It's. Good to have goals in life."

Hailey laughs a little bit and looks at her. "You're pretty cool, I'm just kiddin' I *can* do that, but with this cushy school and all I don't need to." She nods and looks around. "I figure I'll relax, chill out. Ride the waves of the school year, and when the time comes, try and do something worth it." She nods alittle bit with another nod.

B nods at this, slowly, as ze starts to close hir laptop and gather hir books together. "Something? Like what? What /is/ worth it?"

Hailey nods a bit and shrugs abit. "I'll find out when that time comes won't I?" She smirks a bit and sees her packing up. "Oh heading out? Don't tell anyone I'm out here k? I wanna chill out some more. It's so nice out here."

"Why would I tell anyone?" B gives Hailey a rather puzzled look, slipping hir things back into hir bag. "Think it might be dinnerime soon. Some. /Food/. Helps with the studying." Ze shoulders hir pack, sticking close to the far wall to give Hailey as much space as possible as ze skirts wide around the girl to head for the door.

Hailey grins a bit at the somewhat fearful retreat. "Remember, brains work best in a cool temperature around seventy-six degrees farenheit, and the brains synapses have better relays when the body ingests a decent amount of glucose, Oh and caffeine while a stimulant has been shown to give mental shock when overused."

"I'll keep that all in mind," B murmurs, very softly. "Thank you for the study tips." Ze dips hir head in a small nod to Hailey, and the dragonfly takes off from hir shoulder, flying out the door a moment before B climbs down through it and vanishes.
