Marinov and Liv

In Absentia

2017-11-13

"I don't think I'm ready for the 'real world'."

Location

<NYC> Lower East Side

Historically characterized by crime and immigrant families crammed into cramped tenement buildings, the Lower East Side is often identified with its working-class roots. Today, it plays host to many of New York's mutant poor, although even here they are still often forced into hiding.

It's kind of a cool gloomy evening, but Marinov has as protection a cup of warm tea, a navy coloured scarf and a forest green peacoat over their knee lengthed black dress. The felinoid teen holds the tea tightly in their hands to keep the warmth from the to-go cup. The youth mostly keeps their eyes downcast, glancing up once in awhile to make certain that they are not going to run into anyone.

Liv is, by New York standards, a tad overdressed for the weather. Not just wearing a thick beige winter coat but also a matching purple knitted wool hat, mittens, and scarf. Her green hair hangs loose down her back, having grown out in the last few months. She too looks distracted, holding a book in front of her as she walks. She too looks up periodically but mostly appears to be relying on dumb luck. Or perhaps she's relying on skill as she hasn't run into anyone yet, having only had a few close calls and not actually run into anyone or anything. Yet.

On one of Marinov's looks up, they pause and then waves a hand wide in the air to Liv, "Hey! Liv!" The teen gestures a bit wildly to try and get her attention and then starts to jog towards her to try and catch up.

Liv awkwardly looks up, forcing her eyes to tear away from the book, when she unexpectedly hears her name. It's hard to miss the ocelot and Liv grins, closing her book and tucking it under her arm. "Tay!" she calls back, stepping a little quicker to bridge the distance. "How are you? It's been forever!"

"Yeah, 'cause you went and graduated. What's what about?" Marinov chuckles softly, "I'm fine with staying in school for now, though, I don't think I'm ready for the 'real world'." They glance over towards the book a moment, then ask, "Speaking of, what's the real world been like for you?"

"Yeah. Wish I could have stayed in school a little longer. Don't graduate, it's not worth it," Liv says, chuckling a bit. She gives a light shrug at Marinov's question. "Alright. Got my own place. Roommates are nice. Working two jobs. Though one is at a bookstore so that's nice. It has it's perks." Namely the book under her arm that she lifts gently.

"Two jobs? Geez, I hope you get a bit of time to yourself," says Marinov, "Though working at a bookstore seems like it'd be nice, if you like reading that is. I'm maybe a little less crazy about it than some people, mostly 'cause I fall asleep super easily." They take a sip of the tea in their hands, "Where are you living? In this area? Are your roommates... mutant positive?"

"It's exhausting sometimes," Liv agrees. "Yeah, reading's not for everyone. I like the escapism mostly." Liv gives her mittened hands a quick rub for warmth. "Oh! I'm at the Commons now! So yeah, they're about as mutant friendly as it gets. You should stop by some time!"

"Oh, the Commons? I stop by there, not super often, but sometimes for like game nights and stuff like that. That's where we worked on stuff for Something Different," says Marinov, "I really dig that place. It's definitely friendlier than anywhere that I know of." They shrug slightly. "Oh, are you cold? I sometimes forget that not everyone's wearing a fur coat... are you heading home? I can walk with you."

"Yeah. I got really lucky. The people there so far have been awesome and friendly. Plus..." Liv begins grinning sheepishly, very 'school girl with a crush'-like, "Captain America lives there." As she talks, her arms end up locking across her chest and, as she's called out on being called, she chuckles a bit. "You'd think living here the last few years, I'd get used to the cold. My brain still thinks it's Georgia. But yeah, I'm heading home, we can walk a bit."

"Yea, it's neat that he lives there. I got arrested with him once. I mean, I don't think that was a high point for him, but he was really cool," says Marinov, nodding a few times. They start to walk in the direction of the Commons, sipping from their tea. "I'm used to Seattle weather, so a bit dreary doesn't really bother me any."

"You met him? That's awesome! I've seen him in passing. Don't know what I'd do if we actually 'met'. Probably say something stupid." Liv walks alongside Marinov, her arms still crossed in front of her. "I've heard Seattle can be kind of...gloomy. Savannah's got the opposite problem, like living inside an oven during the summer. Sun's nice and all but not when it feels like you're being cooked. The sunburns can be brutal."

"If you attend more of the, like, events and stuff at the Commons, you'll surely meet everyone in no time, yeah?" says Marinov. They glance over towards Liv and remark, "I don't think that I'd really worry too much about sunburns. My mutation has me looking all jungle cat, and I definitely like when it's hot out, even if I look kind of ridiculous when I need to pant..."

"Yeah. I've been busy getting myself settled so I haven't done much of anything. Hopefully I'll have some time soon." Liv looks Marinov, taking in the other's fur. "I suppose it /would/ be pretty protective, even if it's probably a little warm." She does giggle a bit at Marinov's comment. "I don't think it looks ridiculous. Looks pretty efficient actually." She looks up, realizing they're actually approaching the Commons, turning to Marinov with a warm smile. "Oh. We're here already. Hey, it was great seeing you. And seriously, stop by. We can sneak off for drinks again."

Marinov looks towards the building a moment and then they laugh, "Yeah, that'd be great! I wouldn't mind a little of adventure, things have been kinda dull for me lately." They nod towards Liv and says, "Send me a text the next night you're free! Sounds like with a busy schedule like yours, I'll have to work around when you're free. Have a good evening!"
