Introduction
|
xxxxxJaden Yoshida is a native of New York City, the son of an American father and a Japanese immigrant mother. Although he speaks little of his youth, one can readily gather that it was not a pleasant one. He was plucked from that dismal statement and given new opportunities from Charles Xavier, a man whose ideals have become his own in the course of life. Acceptance, calm, thoughtfulness, and questing always toward a world shared in peaceful equality. That he is deadly does not hinder him from meting out that deadliness with great care.

History
|
xxxxxIt would seem that Jaden Yoshida has a preference toward not discussing his childhood, and he has seldom done so to most. It has been generally confided that he is biracial, with an American father and a Japanese immigrant mother. One can gather that he took well to Japanese tradition even as he grew up an American, but that his family life was otherwise a dismal ordeal. That trial was put to an end by one Professor Charles Xavier, who personally found the boy on a night of conflicted thoughts and deep sorrows to provide him with the clarity of guidance.
xxxxxXavier provided Jaden with a full scholarship to attend his school, and he arrived there along with the Professor at the age of twelve. Coming to that place of acceptance seemed to lend a new sense of hope and vibrancy to what had once been a downtrodden youth clinging solely to etiquette and loneliness. He labored to earn superb grades, and his peers found within him a sort of calm wisdom they often consulted. It could hardly be said that he was a social focal point, but he was someone his fellow youths came to trust in times of confusion. Perhaps best of all, he hadn't any need to fear what he was even as he was taught to utilize those gifts with which he had been endowed.
xxxxxIn due time, as he matured, Jaden developed in many ways. Experts at the school taught him to literally take to the skies, and others tamed the fiery inferno within him down to a safer form. At the same time, as he came into his own, he accepted lasting views on life and how he would live it. He'd decided that he would accept his Japanese half in many ways, for he had a great admiration for its culture of old, while at the same time embracing his American heritage in deeds and words. Perhaps most importantly, he committed himself to the ideals of Charles Xavier, a man who he would forever idolize for all that he'd done to set right his course. Always hope for freedom and peace, equality and understanding. Though there may be call for violence, let it be one's last resort.
xxxxxJaden had become so attached to Xavier's School and the ideals it stood for, he had a desire to remain there in some capacity to guide and protect its students. He wanted for them to have better than he'd had. As such, he sought and received the Professor's permission to do so. This came with two conditions: that he would earn a college degree sufficient to teach at the school, and that he would put his talents to higher purpose as an X-Man. Naturally, Yoshida agreed, and thus was he introduced to the operation concealed beneath the mansion. Senior X-Men trained him to use his abilities in a wider variety of situations, and also to focus his extraordinary physical mutations into a katana given to him by Xavier as a graduation gift.
xxxxxAlthough it was somewhat painstaking to manage both, Jaden did successfully attend Ithaca College while at the same time training as an X-Man. He knew well that the Professor would put a stop to it if it ever seemed that he was running himself into the ground with the burden, and so he often made time for calm and meditation, to savor the history of his people and the quotations of many old and famous individuals. It became a habit of his, in fact, to utilize such quotes in his daily life.
xxxxxAfter graduating from college, his tuition once again paid for by Professor Xavier, Jaden Yoshida has remained at Xavier's School as a permanent resident. As promised, he began to serve as both guide and guardian to its younger charges, teacher and protector. He is known for bringing his students deeper into his course on Japanese culture and history through interactivity, interesting dialogue, and even displays of such things from Japan as the very katana he was gifted with. It has been three years now since he began his service as an actual teacher at the School, as well as an X-Man, and he's done well for himself to date. A promising start and an equally promising future for a man of only twenty-five years.

Powers
|
xxxxxAlthough he has a mutation much more obvious to the naked eye, Jaden Yoshida's most potent powers lie within. He is possessed of exceptionally superhuman agility, mobility, and hand-eye coordination. He utilizes this in flight and Jujutsu, but most of all through his focus, the katana given to him by Xavier. It was fashioned from a special alloy to provide durability and lightness. When combined with his gifts, the weapon renders him deadly in combat against flesh and metal both, and he's even been known to deflect bullets with the flat of the blade.
xxxxxThat aforementioned obvious mutation comes in the form of traditionally angelic, feathered white wings. Over time, Jaden has learned to use them fully. He can lift off from the ground and fly with both accuracy and maneuverability, given his reflexes, though it's much less taxing for him to launch himself from a high point and then proceed to soar. However, they are not without disadvantage. Much like a bird's bones, the portion of his skeletal structure comprising his wings is hollow and more easily broken by solid blows.
xxxxxLastly (as far as anyone knows), is Jaden's pyrokinetic ability. When he first came to Xavier's School, he was only able to release flame from his hands in uncontrolled and destructive clouds. Careful instruction and practiced calm has since allowed him to focus that fire into a tight beam which can be used as a weapon, but is equally worthwhile in utilitarian situations such as cutting through chains or locks.
xxxxxHis powers, when taken together and compared to Christian imagery, may explain his chosen codename of Archangel. However, there's implication that something said or seen during his first meeting with Professor Xavier might've served as the inspiration.
