"Lotta plants to meet here."

Location

<XAV> Conservatory - Xs First Floor

Tall panes of glass and a many-gabled glass ceiling protect this large indoor garden from the elements, while welcoming in sunlight to keep it warm year-round. Adjoined to the southern face of the venerable mansion and surrounded by more conventional gardens beyond, the conservatory is all Old World elegance from the outside. Within, however, it is lush and green and in certain corners--whether despite its careful tending by the groundskeeper or because of it--seems practically wild. Footpaths and a burbling artificial steam wind through the space, connecting its disparate parts. Benches are scattered throughout, thorough soft grasses or mosses under certain trees also invite rest.

The outside wall is lined with tropical and subtropical plants. The ferns and cycads and epiphytes are kept moist by artfully hidden misters that also give the place a sort of magical ambiance, dense foliage wreathed at times with drifting patches of mist. Nearest the building is a desert in miniature, with a few impressively sized cacti as well as palo verde and other trees adapted to arid climes. Between these, and by far the largest section, is dedicated temperate zone plantlife from around the world, the beds growing more carefully manicured and the pads less winding as one approaches the center, where a clearing with a small ring of seats is a popular spot for some teachers to hold court.

Exam week is strange and full of both stress and free time, but as chilly and rainy as it's been there's not a whole lot to spend it on. Kelawini's spirits seem undampened by the weather as she leads her newest schoolmate into the Conservatory. She's bundled up as if she were outside, in a soft blue sweater featuring Lilo and Stitch in Santa hats, wreathed in hibiscus blossoms, dark blue jeans, and black boots, with a red and green striped scarf wrapped around her neck. "This here, this the best room in the whole school." She spins around and gestures grandly at the trees overhead, even if the gray sky beyond is less interesting. "Good for days like this, hey?"

Rhydian followed her somewhat unwanted tour-guide into the conservatory. Her eyes widened at how big it actually was inside. Her flowy burgundy colored shirt swished as she looked around, trying to take everything in at once. Part of her has the wildest thought of climbing a tree but she stamps that urge down quickly. Surely the trees are for decoration and not practical use.

She walks further into the conservatory and stops to admire a purple plant with black fuzzy leaves. She’s not sure what plant it is but is fascinated by the color scheme and aroma coming from it. It’s not an aroma she could readily describe off hand but given enough time, she’s certain she could come up with something.

Kelawini wrinkles her nose and looks about ready to say something else, but seeing Rhydian entranced by the plant, she smiles and holds her tongue for a moment longer. She doesn't leave her charge behind, but does just casually step off the manicured path to lean against a small but sturdy ginkgo tree. "Lotta plants to meet here. If you want to go wander instead of doing the tour, I'm not gonna tell."

The other girl drove a hard bargain. She could totally see herself getting lost in here both physically and metaphorically. That thought made her think it was probably best if she kept following the other student. Besides, she could always get lost here later. Shaking out of her reverie, she waved for the girl to lead the way to their next stop.

Kelawini's smile brightens just a touch when Rhydian decides to stick with the tour, after all. She straightens up, hops back onto the path and heads deeper into the Conservatory. "Over there is a little like home." She points to the far glass wall, and the point turns to a sweep in the direction of the path. "Come see!"
