A tense encounter on the streets.

Location

<NYC> East Village

Historically a center of counterculture, the East Village has a character all its own. Home to artists and musicians of many colours, this neighborhood is known for its punk vibe and artistic sensibilities. The birthplace of many protests, literary movements, it is home to a rather diverse community and vibrant nightlife.

There's a slight sigh from Jack as he makes his way out of and away from the bookstore, a small plastic bag containing his purchase inside. Going from the nice cool store to 80 degree weather of a New York afternoon is not pleasant. Especially not when one is dressed in sneakers, jeans, and a hoodie. The material is light but its still long sleeves and a hood. Hands in his pockets to hide the lack of them, Jack's wandering in the direction of the Lower East Side. He's just planning on heading to Evolve to meet some people to head back to the school with. It's been a pretty quiet day for him.

Veronica is probably a bit difficult to recognized dressed as she is in a short-cropped black tank top with a white cartoon skull and crossbones across her chest and a black miniskirt with too many buckles. Her black messenger bag and platform boots also sport a great many buckles. Her glossy black hair is just long enough for pigtails, held in place by hair ties with cartoon skull bobbles. She's leaning on the outside of a bus shelter, smoking a cigarette. When she sees Jack approaching, her mouth pulls to one side and her sighs out a long stream of smoke. "This is a big ass city, how do I keep running into you?"

Jack doesn't pay Veronica much mind at first. He's too busy thinking about other things. But once she speaks up, Jack tenses. He freezes mid step, litter on the street rattling a little. He recognizes that voice and it brings back all sorts of unpleasant thoughts. Ones that have been bothering him quite a lot for the last several days. His head turns slightly to look at Veronica and Jack scowls invisibly. "Stop being such a stalker and you won't run into me."

"Fuck you, freak." Veronica says, kind of casually, without any anger. "As if I would want to follow you around." She takes a long pull of her cigarette and breathes smoke in Jack's direction. "Unlike you, I actually have a life."

Jack just snorts, leaning away from the smoke. His shoulders are still tense and his hands clenched into tight fists. Part of him wants to lash out but he also knows that would be a pretty stupid idea. "Yeah, must get real busy trying to kill people and being a bigot."

Veronica shrugs. "Yeah, pest control is hard work." Even that seems kind of half-hearted, lacking any passionate hatefulness. "Think maybe you could use some anger management classes, too. You seem kind of uptight."

The litter rattles again, the bus shelter's plastic shaking a little too. "I doubt you know what anger management really is," he grunts. He's restraining his temper quite a bit. "And the only pest here's you."

Veronica finally does look a little unsettled. So do the people inside the bus shelter. "Well, you obviously need it. Unless all that shaking is you wetting yourself and not, like, throwing a tantrum." She makes a sweeping gesture at the dancing trash.

Jack glances around, shoulders rising and falling with a shrug. "No idea what you're talking about," he lies. The shaking only lasts a few seconds and could likely be passed off as wind, really. "Maybe cut out the drugs and you won't have so much shaking problems," he remarks. There's a moment where he really wishes he was visible just so he could flip her off but he shrugs. "Bitch," the invisible teen adds, starting to walk away.

Veronica's bland expression falters for just a second. What's under it isn't a snarl of rage or a pall of fear, and it's so brief that it's hard to place. But then it passes and she just rolls her eyes. "Whatever. Better a dog than one of you," she mumbles, tapping the ash off of her cigarette. "See you around, Bullseye."

Jack flashes an invisible smirk when that expression falters. He concentrates as he goes though. He may not have quite the anger problem to attack but he does get a little act of spite in. Telekinesis focuses on that ash and rather than letting it fall to the sidewalk, he sends it blowing right back up at Veronica's face. He's not waiting around to see results though, continuing on like nothing happened.
