Jack really didn’t remember how he got to the conservatory, but that’s where he found himself when he snapped back out of his thoughts. Slumping down to the ground, he found a place to sit and reached up to start wiping the paint off his face. He’d been putting it on for ASL classes and had to do it again for his checkup. The whole thing had been nerve-racking enough just from being in the infirmary. Regardless of them being used on him or not, just seeing the needles down there freaked him out. Being limited to signing only made it harder. He still wasn't good with it and the situation the lessons were made mandatory in brought up something that scared him. Ever since the telepathic info-dump late last night, Jack had been feeling uneasy and on edge. Text transmitted the plague too. Did the virus mutate? Would it mutate again to include more languages than just English? Would signing become the only means of safe communication? Would he have to spend the rest of his life in gloves and face paint to communicate with anyone? Those thoughts had been in his head all day. He’d been trying to push them aside and keep acting like he was fine, tell himself he was worrying over nothing. But the fear that he’d never be heard again when he was already invisible was not going away. He was already stressed and worn from worrying over losing the people he cared about to this plague and this just made it worse. Tugging his hood to make sure it wasn’t going anywhere. Jack drew his knees up to his chest and took a few deep breaths. Closing his eyes, he tried to focus on what felt like good news and mumbled quietly to himself in Spanish. “{It’ll be okay. They’re giving people the treatment and things will be okay again.}” |
