There's kind of a college-dorm feel to this place, though some of its occupants have left college behind. Entering the apartment finds visitors greeted by the perpetually messy living room, a mismatched assortment of couches and chairs (and milk crates) surrounding the wide table in the center. The wall holds a range of posters; some political, some sporty, some from video games, and a string of white lights strung over the kitchen doorway might be a holdover from Christmas. The kitchen adjacent is just as cluttered, its table unfit for eating due to its perpetual covering of books, papers, cereal boxes, projects; the fridge is usually sparsely populated. Ketchup. Beer. Not a lot of food. There are two bedrooms here, split between the four people; the fold-out couch in the living room (often folded out!) suggests that at least one of them does not actually claim a room as their own. It is Sunday afternoon, and Hive’s phone is ringing! Like, actually receiving a voice-based /phone call/ ringing. Hopefully he is awake! It is Micah’s number on the line. RINGING wtf is this ringing; Hive is awake but sounds just a little /confused/ when he picks up. Because phone calling? He might have forgotten how that works. "Uh -- hi?" It's a slightly puzzled hi. Suspicious. SKEPTICAL. Of this phone witchery. “Hive. It’s Micah. Don’t hang up!” The voice on the line sounds /tight/. Tense. Maybe a little panicky. “Do you know how to run the tracking thing on Jax’s phone? Because he kind of just got kidnapped by a lady riding a giant dragonfly. And fell asleep. Just now. And we should track him before maybe they think to get rid of the phone.” "Micah, you know phones can --" Hive is starting to grumble this before tight-tense-panicky registers. He quiets. Actually listens. Except... listening doesn't make him sound any /less/ confused. "... You're not high, are you?" JUST CHECKING. With his friends you never know! "His freakschool can track him. I can't." “Okay…okay. No. No, this actually happened. We were just walkin’ and then there was a giant potato bug rollin’ down the road? And cops shootin’ at things. And I think the potato bug robbed a couple of jewellery stores? And then a less-giant beetle. Which Jax /jumped on/ like it was some kind of bug /rodeo/. But then the lady on the enormous dragonfly--he called her Thea--scooped him up and he looked unconscious after that. Then they all escaped!” Micah might be forgetting to breathe during this…explanation, if you can call it that. “/Look/, I just need t’know who to call t’get this done as quickly as possible! Time…it’s important. To try an’ find him. Before he just goes completely missin’ like Ivan.” "A potato bug robbed -- uh --" This might not be giving much weight to the Micah Is Not High theory, judging by Hive's continued skeptical tone. The long pause that follows. "... Ivan." He echoes this like it is a sudden realization. "Right -- right, Shelby said -- what the fuck, /robbing jewellery stores/." Now Hive's progressed from skeptical to baffled. There's another pause. "You've been working with Liza, haven't you? You got anyone's number down school-ways?" “Really! No, really, seriously, this happened an’ I’m awake an’ still standin’ out here lookin’ at all the /chaos/ that happened!” This doesn’t seem to be helping Micah’s underlying panic. “Yeah, yeah, Liza. I have the number for their medlab. Could call there. Hopefully there’s someone there an’ they know how to work the thing.” "Potato bug. Jewelry stores." Hive repeats this! Slowly. In case /Micah/ might have forgotten what he just said. But slowly this gives way to: "... Jax is gone?" There is silence. "There's a man -- doctor. You might've seen him if you've been working down there. Hank. He'll know. How to track the phones." “Yes, yes. Potato bug, dung beetle, dragonfly, Thea-bug-lady. Thea on the dragonfly took an /unconscious/ Jax an’ /flew away/. Out of sight. No Jax here.” Micah’s ability to form complete sentences seems to be getting /worse/ instead of better with time. “I’ll call…yeah. I’ll call the doc. If you got any other numbers up there, you ring ‘em for me, okay?” "OK." Just that, and then more silence. "-- Where are you now?" “Downtown.” There’s a pause. Micah might be looking around to help provide a better description. “With all the jewellery stores? Fancy part with the square an’ the fountain. We was walkin’ an’ Jax got distracted…all the shiny things.” "You safe?" is Hive's next question. It's a little quicker than his previous bemusement, a little more urgent. "No more bugs?" “Think so.” Micah replies quickly. “No /giant/ bugs. Cops crawlin’ around, though. Prob’ly I should take off. Didn’t wanna waste any time. Maybe call the doc…then take off.” "Come here," Hive says, immediately. "You can call the school on the way. I'll see if I can reach anyone there, too. The twins would -- they'll know a way, I'm sure. But -- you. Kinda sound like shit. You can sound like shit over /here/." “Yeah…yeah I’ll do that,” Micah murmurs, a little distracted. “He just /ran off/, Hive, an’ I couldn’t do nothin’ about it.” "S'always the fucking /hero/." Hive says this word kind of disparagingly. But the next just sounds a little gruff and a little /firm/: "We'll find him. Call the school, and come down here." “Okay. Comin’. I’ll call ‘em now. Can’t waste time.” That’s all from Micah before there is silence on the line. "Yeah. See you. Soon." Cell phones don't really click. So. Just dead air all around. |
