<XS> Lake

Bright, bright, bright; the lake glitters wide and expansive here, stretching off into the distance. Sunlight, moonlight, starlight, it catches them all. Lapping at the rocky shore, its deep waters are frigid in winter and cool even in summer. A stone pier stretches out a ways into the water, wide and smooth, though often icy in winter.

The water teems with life nevertheless, home to myriad species of fish that provide for ample fishing or just lazy watching on a slow summer day, for those who want to take a boat from the boathouse out to the center of the lake, or perhaps lounge on the pier and try their luck.

Before the sun rises, there is this eerie glow that fills the land that makes sleep deprived eyes longing for comfort from night terrors finally feel a little at ease. As soon as that glow began to break darkness's hold upon the sky and hint at morning with a hint of brightness at the horizon, Rasa slips out of the mansion by way of the roof. Ze leaps from there to the roof of the tree house, then down and through to the school grounds, the tail of the blanket bunched up in hir arms floating behind hir like a standard. Ze wanders quietly in the burgeoning day toward the pier, where the blanket is swaddled in such a way that ze can curl up under and on top of it on the cold surface. What might have started out as an attempt to just be there to greet hir roommate turns into a welcome nap while ze waits.

There's a rippling in the water, far out at first but streaming quickly in towards the pier. It vanishes for a time, until with a small splash a narrow blue face pokes its way up out of the water. Huge black eyes blink up at Rasa, gills fluttering slowly as thin arms wrap against the cold stone of the pier. There's quiet. No greeting, yet. Just quiet inspection of the swaddled figure.

In hir sleep, Rasa's face is crisscrossed in faint scars, lines that shift and move, lightening to nonexistent and darken once more. The design is that of staggered strips or rectangles climbing across hir face like a newly laid hardwood floor, before disappearing into hir hair line. The longer the sun shines upon them, though, the lighter and lighter they become, disappearing entirely when ze shifts to lay on hir back, tossing back most of the blanket in the slowly growing warmth of morning. Ze continues sleeping, eyes crinkled up against the light, as if willing hirself to stay asleep.

The dark eyes stay on Rasa for a moment, watching this with faintly wrinkled brow. Shane pulls himself out of the lake with another quiet splash, rivulets of water streaming down off him as he skirts quietly around Rasa, not interrupting hir sleep and instead moving down the length of the pier to drag a gym bag out of the rushes alongside it at the shore. He digs a pair of shorts out of the bag, lightweight tan ones zipped off at the knees from where they sometimes transform into long hiking pants. He doesn't bother with drying off, just pulls the shorts on over wet skin and leaves the rest of the bag on the pier.

Rasa stirs at the sound of water sheeting off Shane and back into the water. Ze turns to face the noise first, eyes opening quickly - alert, but in the face of current danger, they begin to blink rapidly, the eyeballs themselves dry and burning. Ze pulls hirself into a sitting position and wraps hir arm around hir knees, the other bracing behind hir. "Mrrrn'ng," ze tries, quietly.

"Only barely." Shane's gills ripple at his sides, his arm curling against his chest. "Go back to sleep. Class isn't for hours."

"You're up," Rasa replies, hir eyes not staying open. Ze starts to melt back down to the pier.

"/I'm/ not falling asleep on the pier," Shane answers mildly.

"Mmmmfine. Coming back?" Ze asks, pulling the blanket back over hir shoulders.

"Back where?" Shane's brows crease inwards, his head tipping in some confusion. "I just got /up/."

Rasa cranks open one eye and stares at Shane with it, the other one squinted closed. "Thought you were leaving." Hir voice is starting to wake more. "For some reason, I thought you were on your way into the woods to find Dusk." Part of hir face is now displaying a small cartoon show in which a poorly draw, large bat moves to rub up against a very blue shark with a very dopey grin.

"He is a good way to start the day," Shane admits with a small crooked smile. His hand lifts, fingertips touching to two healing punctures at the side of his neck. "I do tend to go find him in the mornings." He crouches down at the side of the pier, one hand braced against the stones and his webbed toes curling down over the edge. "You want to come with?"

"If you don't mind a third wheel, it would be nice to say hi." Rasa starts drawing hirself into a sitting position, stifling a yawn. "We got a sec for me to take a quick dip? it'll help wake me up. And I promise, I'll take off before you two get started." As the blanket falls away from hir shoulders, hir hands move to the waistband of hir pajama shorts, ready to pull them off for said dip. Hir torso is covered in a baggy long sleeved T.

"Got time. B's barely even up yet." Shane stoops lower, trailing his fingertips in thew ater. "Why do you need to take off?" His eyes have been fixed downward into the water, but he glances up towards the trees thoughtfully. "I don't mind. He likes the company. Well. He likes /some/ company. The right company. Not sure how much longer he'll be here anyway. I think they found a lawyer for him."

"I don't know." Rasa replies, slipping out of hir clothes, then sliding into the lake. Ze angles hir body so hir groin is not so obvious, but ze doesn't really try to cover up. Soon, ze is more than waist deep in the water and scooping it up hir arms. "I've always had a thing with Ivan, but now that he's here, I'm more afraid I'm going to screw it up. Kind of paranoid about it. Trying to avoid that. Besides. Aside from that one kiss we had, when have I ever... well... I just... don't really think of people like that. I mean it's nice and I can get caught up in a moment, but it's... not really my thing."

"Screw it up?" Now Shane just looks still more confused. "The fuck do me and Dusk have to do with Ivan?" His head turns towards Rasa, gills fluttering. "Think of people like -- what the fuck are you on about?"

"Oh. Shit." Rasa begins to turn read, the color starting near hir temples, under hir hair line and leaking down through out hir body. "I... I thought you were inviting me to have sex with... you... two." Ze lowers hirself in the water, squatting until it is up to hir chin, then dunks hirself under briefly. Ze turns and starts pulling hirself up and out again. "um. Apologies." Ze remains a rather bright magenta color as ze starts fumbling with hir clothes to put them back on.

Shane's eyes widen, inner eyelids blinking rapidly. "-- I said he'd like company, not to stick his dick in you." He looks back down at the water in front of himself, frowning as his hand lifts again to touch to the side of his neck. "I just give him breakfast. When have I ever -- have you ever --" He shakes his head, pushing very abruptly to his feet. "He just gets lonely. People to talk to is good. People he's comfortable with, anyway."

"I..." Rasa remains red as ze finishes, fingers patting down the now damp shirt in place, fidgeting with the bottom hem. "I was wrong. I jumped to conclusions. I thought you guys had a relationship like that. I just thought..." Ze stammers and falls silent, hir eyes locked on hir feet as ze presses the arch of one to hir other ankle and rubs some of the moisture off. "Please... forgive me for making assumptions. I didn't mean any of it poorly." Ze rubs the heel of one hand against hir eye. "I... can go elsewhere. I apologize."

"S'cool." Shane shrugs a shoulder, pressing his hand to the side of his neck. "I'm not /offended/. We /do/ have a relationship like that. And even if we didn't it's not like assuming it is -- I dunno, accusing me of something /bad/." He turns his head slightly, giving Rasa a crooked smile. "But I'd only invite you to /join/ us if you'd ever given me an indication /you/ were into that. C'mon. Talking. Biting. No sex."

Rasa makes a couple nods and leans over to grab hir blanket, balling it up to carry with hir. "Ah. Appreciate that. Just ..." Hir free hand circles hir chest as ze turns to move down the pier with Shane. "Things have been very different lately and I really shouldn't be assuming anything."

"Assuming anything like what, I'm the biggest ho in the school? Go get my booty call in before class?" Shane snorts, his crooked smile lingering, a little amused. "Probably a fair assumption anyway. I am kind of a ho."

"Well, it's certainly a very responsible way to not be distracted during class," Rasa shrugs and gives a sheepish smile.

Shane's grin stretches wider. "Dusk's only barely awake when you catch him before noon. I save my booty calls for lunchtime."

"I will try to keep that in mind." Rasa offers, then hir fading magenta darkens again. "Not that I'm keeping track your sex life."

"S'a lost cause," Shane answers blithely as he heads into the trees. "Ho, remember? /I/ can't even keep track of my own damn sex life without Google calendar and a PDA."

"Ha! Well, at least technology is finally catching up with your busy lifestyle!" Rasa bumps shoulders with Shane as they walk, hir color starting to fade again, leaving hir a pleasant pink as they enter the woods.
